4 1/2 stars. Very fun and enjoyable book. Adults will enjoy it as much as teens will. My daughter loved it too, even as much as me. Characters were fun. Ella was my favorite.

This book is so much more than I expected. The characters are wonderful but definitely not perfect. Sometimes I thought they were jerks but they're so alive and multi-dimensional. I absolutely adore multi-dimensional characters. Aaaaa....dore. I loved everything about this book from the plot delivery to the beautiful and timeless concepts of self-acceptance and love. But most of all I was enchanted with Mattie. She just makes everything so interesting...more

Another free kindle book that I bought on whim that turned out to be AMAZING, and possibly one of my new favourites!

This book made me so happy. It reminded me so much of my reading experience with some of the other books I absolutely loved. Especially Fat Cat, Sean Griswold's Head and Flipped. If you're a fan of any of these books, you're bound to love The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back.

Cinderella has always been one of my favorite fairy tales so I am always on the lookout for interesting retellings of it. I stumbled across The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back a few weeks ago when I saw an ad about it being free (temporarily) on Amazon. Now, I am not one to turn my nose up at free books so I hopped on over there to buy it. And I am so glad I did! This was a real hidden jewel for me and I definitely recommend it to fans of sweet YA contemporaries with a fairy tale flair.

The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back is another indie gem I ran across while trawling through Amazon's "... also viewed" lists looking for my next indie read. The indie market has become so overly saturated with mediocre reads that while I love reading and supporting amazing indies, I must admit to a greater feeling of apprehension at times. I've been looking for something light and fun to read. Something without supernatural creatures and post-apocalyptic settings. The minute I saw this on Amazon I knew I'd hit the jackpot. It took me a while to get through it, even though it's not that long, because I had to stop at just about every turn of the page and take the time to roll on the ground with laughter. Think Clueless meets Cinderella, but from the other side. It's fun, light-hearted, with nuggets of truth, and contains enough teenage angst to remind older folks how traumatic school really used to be. A great read!
Holy Cow. This book is fantastic. You may be thinking, "Oh this is another typical teenage romance." Well.. that's where you are wrong!

It's such an unbelievably cute story, I felt a little piece of me get crushed when it ended.
So cute! I instantly fell in love with it! I loved it loved it loved it!!

This was a cute, fun book. I was expecting there to be a sort of rivalry between Mattie and Ella, and there was a bit of one at first, but they both really just liked each other two much to be bitter enemies. That was nice to see, when Cinderella stories usually rely on that relationship as the main source of conflict.

Okay, first reason I loved this book and still do is because it was beyond relatable for me. Okay, so I don't have a stepsister who's ten times prettier than me. I read to be entertained. I am busy and I need something fluffy and fun that sucks me in, and this book did that for me. I liked it so much I stayed up later than I should reading it, and then I came over and had to turn the computer back on just so I could gush about it. Was it fabulous literature? No. It was a fun story. I'm not a fan of the classics. I'm a fan of entertainment and being taken somewhere else that doesn't include dishes and piles of laundry and screaming children. I gave this book 3 stars, but it deserves close to a 4. I had never read any book by Sariah Wilson, but I would most definitely read more stories of hers. This is a book is directed toward a younger crowd, but I still loved it! The love story was extremely PG, but it is exactly what I was expecting when I picked this book up. I wasn't sure what to expect upon hearing about THE UGLY STEPSISTER STRIKES BACK. The cover looked like a full-fledged fairy tale, so I immediately wanted it. When I started reading, however, it was clear that this wasn't the stepsister's version of Cinderella. For one thing, Mattie's dad married Ella's mom, and Mattie and her father aren't evil. This is simply delightful! I loved Mattie’s voice in this surprisingly humorous and poignant story that is easy for most of us to relate to. This fun and heart warming read is what you get when you blend two parts Cinderella with one part John Hughes. The super-hot object of Mattie Lowe's non-prescription glasses clad eyes is even named Jake, (a la Sixteen Candles).

This was an enjoyable read, but there wasn't anything spectacular about it. There were a ton of cliches but to be fair, I like cliches sometimes, and it obviously was good enough for me to finish reading. If you're looking for a short, fluff read, then I'd reccommend it and since I got it for free on Amazon, I'm always happy about that.
