Following the industrial revolution of the late eighteenth century, Christians in the West began concerted efforts to spread their faith across the globe. On the Missionary Trail is the story of two men sent to places as far-flung as the Kalahari, Tahiti, and Canton to track the spread of Christianity. Books about missionaries are usually written by missionaries or by those in some way closely related to the missionary cause. The author, being neither, offered what I thought would be a unique outsider's perspective. Not an easy read, and kind of boring. It could have been a compelling book, if written less like an encyclopedia.
