My status updates say a lot more than my review would...I really loved Celia and I wanted her to have the HEA that she deserved. And, when I say that, I wanted her to have a cowboy worthy of her and not some used up dick head that banged her sister in law for an entire summer!

Whewwww...that off my chest. I loved Kyle and Celia together. He had much to atone for and he did his penance!

Her jaw dropped. He was wrong. Completely, totally, utterly wrong wrong wrong.

Wasn’t he?

One drunken night in Vegas with a wedding chapel – Kyle and Celia start out on a crazy foot getting married in Vegas. These two longtime friends have known each other since they were children, picking fights and terrorizing each other from the start. Kyle has had stronger feelings for Celia for the past few years, but was never able to get up the nerve to act on them. Celia always came off as a wild child/barrel racer on the rodeo circuit, but in reality she’s on the shy side, sexually inexperienced and down to her last dime. Both Kyle and Celia’s dream has always been to own and work on a ranch of their own. So before they can say “annulment”, Kyle finds out his unknown father has suddenly decided to come forward and tell Kyle who he is, on his death bed. Kyle can’t get to him in time, but his father left him everything: a sizable bank account, home and ranch. Kyle’s never run a ranch before, so he strikes a deal with Celia, stay married for 6 months, help him get the hang of ranching and he’ll pay for her college education.

From the start, I loved this couple. They have such a strong, long history that being married so spur of the moment didn’t read to me like it does in other stories; it didn’t have that farfetched feeling. These two clicked from their scenes working on the ranch to the steaminess in the bedroom. They were able to give each other things that no one else had before. For Kyle, he gave Celia the chance to come out of her shell and he gave her a sense of home. Celia helped Kyle deal with his anger toward a man he’d never know as his father, helped him learn all about ranching without making him feel dumb or worthless and she brought fun and love into his life.

Sexy, sexy, sexy, Lorelei James always brings out the sexiness in her characters. Kyle and Celia christen every room inside and outside of their house in hot, crazy ways. It’s hard not to enjoy that, but what struck me most was how sweet Kyle is and that he’s a romantic. A guy who says and does the sweetest things to and for the woman he loves always gets to me. He had me sighing along with Celia after some of the things he told her; a very lovable hero that was easy to like and enjoy.

Celia covers up hurt and her feelings very well. With Kyle, she’s able to express herself more, but things in her past, specifically surrounding her brothers, hurts her badly. I liked seeing her stand up for herself, using Kyle’s support to stay strong. I also enjoyed seeing her expertise when it came to running their farm. She might have been a shy girl, but I liked the woman she was on page, sassy, smart and a great match for Kyle.

I overall really enjoyed this story. My only small issue is with the ending. I’d have loved one more chapter or an epilogue to give the story a little more detail to finish it off. It feels like it ends a bit abruptly and I wanted some more Kyle and Celia goodness to finish their story. Aside from that, Kyle and Celia have a love story that is completely enjoyable, so sexy (and a little dirty) and I loved going along for the ride.(less)

This was a nice read. It was wonderful to see Kyle get his love story. I hadn't been a huge fan of Celia in the glimpses we got of her in the previous books but I'm a fan now. I liked that we got to see her soften a little while still remaining a bit fiesty. She fell in love and took some chances and that was good to see. We also got to see the vulnerable woman behind the tough talking dare devil we had previously seen. I enjoyed Kyle and Celia becoming their own little world and fighting anyone...more

Kyle wakes up in Vegas married to his nemesis and secret crush…OH, she also just happens to be his best friends’ little sister. On top of that he gets an emergency call from his momma, that requires him to head home without taking care of the quickie Vegas wedding. NOT that he wants to, Celia has a different opinion.

We first met Kyle in CORRALLED (Blacktop Cowboys #1). I was ok when things didn’t work out between him and Lanie because I wanted Hank and Lanie together. I also wanted Kyle to have his own amazing HEA and Ms. James did not disappoint.

In CORRALLED I felt the loveable, fun, sexy Kyle had some growing up to do. Let me tell you, he grew up just fine, as much as I was already in love with Kyle in CORRALLED, I fell even more in love with him in ONR. He is sexy, sweet and not willing to give up on Celia or their love.
Celia is feisty, headstrong and vulnerable. The banter between Kyle and Celia is addicting, I truly did not want their book to end.

ONR is not just a book about Kyle and Celia dealing with their newfound relationship and smoking hot sex. Kyle and Celia have to deal with the reactions of her overprotective brothers and the fact that Kyle had a sexual relationship with her sister in law, one that included a menage with her brother (strictly MFM menage, no sex between Kyle and Hank). Ms. James took a sensitive subject that had the potential to ruin Kyle and Celia’s relationship and worked it out without making me think “JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!” while I was reading it

ONE NIGHT RODEO is another outstanding example of the talent of Lorelei James. Once again she has written a unique story full of family, friends, conflict, romance and steamin’ hot sex. Ms. James amazes me with her ability to keep each book refreshing and different. She is one of my go to authors when I need a book I know will satisfy me from start to finish.(less)

She’s had a crush on him since her pigtail days and he’s been warned away time and again by her older brothers. Pranks and bickering between them ensued and their loved ones can’t believe how Kyle’s and Celia’s lives are now intertwined.

Taking things a bit too far at a post-concert celebration, very inebriated...more I’ve been waiting – quite anxiously – for Kyle and Celia. Finally they’re here, and their story is better than I could have imagined. These two characters have known one another for years. She’s had a crush on him since her pigtail days and he’s been warned away time and again by her older brothers. Pranks and bickering between them ensued and their loved ones can’t believe how Kyle’s and Celia’s lives are now intertwined.

Taking things a bit too far at a post-concert celebration, very inebriated Kyle and Celia tie the knot. Then wake up the next morning with no memories of the beginning of this supposed new life yawning before them. Celia is ready for an annulment. But Kyle has wanted her right where she is for a long time, so he tosses out a bargain. Six months together, and if Celia still wants out, he won’t stand in her way. In the meantime, since they’re both tired of the rodeo circuit, some time ranching and slow, steady seduction are the name of the game.

But then life bucks Kyle out of the saddle when his mother gives him the news his father has died. A father he’s never known. Now his dream has become a reality – a ranch of his own. Having only worked now and again on the Lawsons’ ranch hasn’t truly given him the experience he thought it would, though, so thank god for Celia. Her brothers may have babied her to the point she left home, but she learned ranching inside and out. The hard work brings them together, gives them a starting place to learn about the other without the antagonism that has been between them for so long.

Both Kyle and Celia have their own baggage to lessen in this relationship. For Kyle it’s been not knowing who his father is and saving every penny to obtain his dream. Well, both of those issues were taken care of in one fell swoop, but that doen’t put an end to the questions and frustrations in his life. Celia, for all intents and purposes – at least in her mind – has been homeless for a few years now. Once her brothers married, both new families living on the ranch, she felt out of place. That’s why she ended up on the rodeo circuit barrel racing. Now she can have a home with Kyle, but she’s the one who’s put a time limit on their relationship. Can they truly make this work? The times they should be talking to each other, unlike in the past, their doubts and vulnerabilities keep both silent.

But in between all of that is the romance, the lust, the lovemaking. And the laughter. It’s a good thing I was at home when I read the scene with the mice and the couch. Which Celia put to flame. Literally. Otherwise, I would have had people looking at me like I was a crazy woman with all the laughter I had going on. That’s one thing that is guaranteed in a Lorelei James book is laughter, and I laughed myself silly reading that scene. Of course, the romance, the lust, and the lovemaking are guaranteed in a James novel too, but those are a given. Kyle is a romantic at heart, and he melts Celia every time with his thoughtfulness and kindness, makes her wish more and more they will end up being together forever. His loving also melts her, his every touch, every kiss, every thrust, you name it that man gives it to her. For Kyle, just finally having his hands on Celia is enough – at first. Living just a few short weeks with her, sharing everything, he now wants more. He wants forever too.

We do get to catch up with characters from past books, most notably Celia’s brothers Abe and Hank, who have a bit of apologizing and groveling to do after their initial reaction to the marriage that shouldn’t be, in their opinion. Finally Celia gets what she’s always wanted from her brothers, and then some, which she never expected. That’s a terrific scene between the siblings, the brothers realizing how they’ve hurt her. It’s scenes like this that have now made this book my favorite of the Blacktop Cowboys series. And that’s saying a hell of a lot, considering that every one of those stories is terrific in its own right.

As usual, Lorelei James delivers on all fronts in One Night Rodeo. Combining the erotic and family, love and romance with doubt and vulnerabilities, and throwing in some plain old fun always makes her reads favorites of mine every time. She’s true to her characters, who are always larger than life, know how to play, do what needs to be done, protect what’s theirs, and love with all their hearts. And what’s even more amazing than that? She only gets better and better with each book. What does that say for reader pleasure in the future?

If you want to read great erotic romance, this is the James you should be reading....unlike a certain other *cough* E.L. *cough* But in all seriousness, this is what an erotic romance should be - a lot of hot, raunchy fun but also a lot of emotion and great characters. I loved Celia and Kyle. Great chemistry and they really seemed to challenge each other. I thought they were a great match.

Kyle and Celia's story turned out to be a sweet ending for two very argumentative characters that have been popping up in the last 3 books. I'm glad to see their different sides of themselves to see that they was more to them. Its funny that their friends saw more to their relationship than their family. My Thoughts:

Kyle broke my heart in book 1 of the Blacktop Cowboys Series. He was the one who didn't win the girl in that book. Now 3 books later we finally get Kyle's story and what a story! I sensed the foreshadowing in the previous novels that Kyle and Celia's fireworks...maybe turn into a different type of fireworks and I wasn't disappointed. LJ took an interesting path to get to the HEA in this book. I loved that they got married before the romance had even taken off. The book was truly about the characters with little other side stories. The focus is totally on what is happening with each main character and their thoughts and experiences. If I had to describe this book in one word it would be genuine. The emotions, the reactions, the farm work....it all seemed so real. I think this is up there with her best ever books. I do need to mention Lorelei James is one of my favorite author's... her consistency lets you know that you will never be disappointed in any novel written by her...it is money well spent.

5 bright stars for this newest Lorelei James novel....now...HOW long do I have to wait for the next one???? what ever the answer it is way toooooo long!(less)

Feels like I’ve been waiting for Kyle’s story forever, and it was worth the wait. Kyle is my favorite Blacktop Cowboy so far: Sexy and rugged blended perfectly with sweet and romantic. I bought this yesterday and pretty much put everything else to the side to read it. It was SO GOOD! Lorelei has done it again with her cowboys. Kyle was simply too hard to resist. I couldn't put the book down until I read the last page! Of course, I've been waiting for Kyle's book since I read the first Blacktop Cowboy book, Corralled. So I had pretty high expectations for this one, and let me tell you....Lorelei blew every one of those out of the water.

Celia has been present in all of the books and she seemed a little distant. I liked her, but I always felt like there was more going on. There was. In One Night Rodeo you find it all out. She turned out to be a woman I think we could all relate to in one way or another. Celia didn't change so much as she grew and showed all sides of her personality. I loved the back and forth between her and Kyle, it's been present from the start, but in this book it was different. As I read the book I was entranced by their relationship, I felt like I was right there with them.

Kyle is one heck of a cowboy. He's a bull rider, but has always wanted to own a ranch. Now he gets his chance. If you liked Kyle before when he was cocky and sometimes a jerk, then you're going to love his sweet and vulnerable side. That was probably the most surprising part of this book for me. Kyle's romantic side seemed so natural, while at the same time you knew as you read that it was something he pretty much only showed to Celia. It drew me in and wouldn't let go!

There is a scene that rivals the fainting goats from Lorelei James's Rough Rider series. When you read it, if you don't laugh out loud I would be surprised. It's by far one of my favorite scenes in any book I've read. Humor is very present in One Night Rodeo, and considering the history between Celia and Kyle it was expected. Lorelei didn't leave out the emotional tug though, at one point Kyle was being a pigheaded male and I wanted to both shake some sense in him and hold him close.

I could go on and on about this book, but it's better for you to just go buy it and read it. You don't have to read the other 3 books to understand this one...although I would recommend that you do because they are really good as well!! (less)

4.5 Stars. I'd have given it 5 if we has gotten to see the planned ending. I loved a lot about this book. That Kyle wasn't afraid to be vulnerable with Celia. It didn't take away from him being an Alpha Male at all. How he apologized without prompting when he was an ass. That Kyle adored and respected Celia in the best possible way. I loved that Celia never made Kyle fell "less than" for not knowing how to be a cattleman. I love that she exploded sexually with him because she trusted him so much...more

This book was an amazingly sweet and HOT read. Once again Lorelei takes a simple story line and makes it such an interesting read that it just flows and keeps us reader's completely hooked. I'm a cowboy fan all the way. And as much as I enjoy this author, I have to admit that I had a hard time getting through this book. I didn't find any way to connect with either of the main characters, unfortunately. Also, the conversation tagging actually hurt my head to read it (the constant darlin', lookin', askin', etc...). I know these are cowboys with an accent and I think the author could have left out those tags because their way of speaking is implied and we 'know' that in our imaginatio...more

I am one of the one who has been witing for Klye's and Celia's story.Lorelei did such a wonderful job on this book. A highly recommended book!
I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed Lorelei James’ ONE NIGHT RODEO, the latest in her BLACKTOP COWBOYS series, which chronicles the lives and loves of men and women from Muddy Gap, Wyoming, as they travel the rodeo circuit. There has been quite a buildup to this book, Celia and Kyle’s story, so that means there were a lot of expectations to meet when Ms James was writing this book. Annoyed by non-communication. Hated that things were balanced so that it was "poor Celia" and "bad Kyle". Thought he was far more honest in the relationship. He gives and she assumes the worst. Still not entirely sure what he's getting out of the relationship except sex and someone to teach him how to run a ranch.

Was surprised that James seemed to go fairy godmother nuts on these two, suddenly bestowing them with money and land.

Re-read: audiobook, 4/14/2013
I hardly re-read books these days. There's just no time with so many I have to give my attention to. The second time I "read" this one all the way through, I listened to the audiobook and I loved it just as much. Scarlett Chase (the narrator) did a good job bringing Celia and Kyle to life.

After getting to the end of ONR, I wanted to listen to it all over again. I love Celia and Kyle and I never get tired to their story.

Wow! Cowboys are freakin' HOT! This book blew all the other cowboy books I read out of the water. I haven't read any of the books in the series but I definitely am now. This was a nice read, well written, but average. It also had one of my pet peeves -when the conflict arises because the hero or heroine assumes the worst before it happens and acts on it instead of communicating.
HERO is a Performer, cocky, competitive, and has been pining for his best friend’s sister for a long time. After a drunken marriage in Vegas, he strikes a deal with her to help him run the ranch he’s just inherited, and plans to use that time to convince her to stay with him.

Celia Lawson has known Kyle Gilchrist almost her entire life and for most of that time she’s done nothing but try to make his life miserable and vice versa. Celia’s not sure when her feelings for the smoking hot cowboy changed but she’s shocked to wake up naked and married Kyle after a long night of drinking in Las Vegas. When Kyle inherits a ranch from his father he never knew he makes a deal with Celia, for her help getting everything running Kyle will pay for her to go to vet school after six months. Celia soon finds she likes playing house with Kyle and walking away might not be what she really wants.

Kyle Gilchrist has spent all of his time trying to win money bull riding so he can buy his own ranch so when his unknown father leaves him a spread right outside his hometown he’s shocked. Also as shocking is realizing he married his friends baby sister and how much the idea doesn’t scare him. Kyle now has six months to convince Celia that he wants the marriage to be forever and he will stop at nothing to keep the sassy cowgirl by his side and in his bed forever.

Like many fans of this amazing series by Lorelei James I have been highly anticipating Kyle getting his happily ever after especially now that it’s with Celia. We first bet Kyle in Corralled and I instantly fell in love with him. Kyle is the epitome of the sexy cowboy but the way he looked out for Celia and was so sweet to her made me swoon. Like most fans this book has been a long time coming and it was everything I wanted.

After their drunk marriage in Las Vegas Celia and Kyle head back up to Wyoming to finalize Kyle’s inheritance. These two have the best chemistry and from the first page they are sizzling. I was a little nervous that Mrs. James was going to make us wait for these two to start burning up the sheets but these two can’t keep their hands off one another. Kyle and Celia are a great team and I enjoyed reading about what it takes to run a ranch and all the hard work that goes into it.

After getting to know both Kyle and Celia I was very worried that they had too much baggage to work and that would do nothing but fight and bicker. I loved how well they clicked and how much they learned to open up. Seeing these two very lonely people start to love and depend on the other made this my favorite book of the series. I was so happy with everything and I only wish that we could have had more between Kyle and his mother because I thought there was a lot more there that could have been worked out.

We get to see all of the characters from previous books and catch up with them. I wasn’t very happy with Celia’s brothers, Hank and Able, but they did redeem themselves and make things better. Once again The Mud Lilies provide lots of laughs and I’m serious when I say those ladies need their own books. I am not sure who’s book we’re getting next but I love this series and can’t wait to see what happens next. (less)
