Just noticed that this series is switching to a hardcover release!

Which pisses me off. I'm not sure I'm invested enough in Ward's angels to shell out the $$ for hardcover especially when I'll just end up replacing it in PB so my series is all matchy, matchy. (Yeah I know) Damn I hate when publishers do this.

So far this series isn't up to BDB standards, and what I mean by that is that I've yet to reread any of the books whereas my BDB's are trashed, I've reread them several, several times so it...more

3.5 stars I definitely enjoyed this one more than the first two installments in this series; my opinion of it is more along the lines of my thoughts on book 3. Full review to come.

3 ½ stars – Paranormal/Urban Fantasy Romance

I’m an avid, loyal J.R. Ward fan and love the Fallen Angels series, but this was a bit disappointing. It just didn’t have the same oomph like the previous books, and I wasn’t as invested in the story or characters this time around. The dark, edgy, biting snarkasm that’s one of Ward’s trademarks seemed lacking in this, and overall it honestly fell kind of flat for me. I’m not going to write a full review, but needless to say I was expecting more, especi...more

Exciting, funny, heartbreaking, uplifting, romantic, sexy... Rapture, the fourth book in J.R. Ward's The Fallen Angels series, is all that and more.

I've enjoyed, even loved, every book in the series so far, but there's something about this story - about Matthias - that drew me in and kept me totally engrossed in his tale, first page to the last. I've never met a man more unworthy of salvation and yet, at the same time, more deserving of redemption.

I laughed, I cried, I sighed, and I wanted it...more

Maybe I am a litte shallow, but I fail to be impressed by a main character that is as flawed as this guy. I don't get why he gets a second chance. I failed to feel any compassion for him and often while listening, wondered why Ward decided to make Mathias the F**r, as Jim calls him, the focus of this new novel. For most of the book she kept harping on how messed up he was, physically and morally. I mean seriously there was no fantastical visions in my head of Mathias - One eyed, limping, scarred...more

This JRW book had a much "quiter" feel to it, than previous FA books. That isn't a bad thing, it was just something that I noticed. I think Devina was still reeling over the realization of her feelings for Jim. So this book is about Mattias and second chances and all about redemption. Mattias was an evil hated character in the other FA books. So I wasn't sure how JRW could possibly not only redeem him enough, but also turn him into hero material, but darned if she doesn't do it. Our story opens...more

Opening Line: Grave. And not as in serious. As in headstone and freshly disturbed earth, as in body down under, as in ashes to ashes, dust to dust.”

I’m one of those obsessive JR Ward fans that knows the release date of her latest book about a year in advance and plans accordingly, rearranging my work schedule and blocking off several uninterrupted days to read it. If I’m honest though her Fallen Angels have never quite made it to the same level as her BDB boys however I did feel (at least with t...more

I keep reading these, even though the language and the formula sometimes make me cringe almost to the point of implosion.

This is the first J.R. Ward book that I've read, and I'm already wondering what I'm missing out on due to the creativity and dark world building in Rapture, the 4th book of the Fallen Angels series.

The paranormal romance series is about a war between Heaven and Hell as Jim Heron, a fallen angel must save the souls of 7 people from the seven deadly sins. His opposition is Devina, a gorgeous, evil demon that has a...more

In my opinion it took this series about two books to get into its own rhythm and find it's own entity away from Ward's other series -- although there is a cameo. After Envy, it was clear that the war was on. It wouldn't be a Ward story if it wasn't full of acronyms and pop/label/fashion references, things that some people find annoying. These don't bother me since it doesn't take away from the story development.

A summary of the story thus far: In Caldwell, NY Jim Heron is an XOps now angel that...more

I got this for myself a long, long time ago.
I can still remember how
I lend it to a friend of mine.

And the rest is kind of a haze,
it's only been the last few days,
that I remembered Rapture over a glass of wine.

I'm ashamed, but this book I did abandon,
maybe because I'm not in the Fallen Angels fandom.

And I really had so much hope,
but J.R. Ward was just like, "üh, nope"

I can't remember if I intentionally lied,
when I said I'll read this in the publication-night,
but my series page made me see t...more

Another good book from Ward. I really like this series - it's no BDB back in the early days, but I look forward to the release of them.
I'm a chronic re reader. When I read a book I like I often read it again right away and depending on the degree of 'like' several times after. I have never read any of the Fallen Angels books more than once. After reading this latest entry, I am wondering why. While Rapture didn't have me on pins and needles and in that state where I cleared an entire half a day...more

For me, J. R. Ward = 5 STARS!!! Another Fallen Angel story, and I have yet to be disappointed!!!

Jim Heron and his wingman, Adrian Vogel once again take on Devina, the evil she-demon in round four of the fight for good and evil!!! This particular battle is a redo for Jim's former XOps boss and nemesis Matthias Hault, who had recently been condemned to Hell after the loss of battle no. 2 with Devina.

Mels Carmichael, a young reporter for the Caldwell Newspaper, is sucked into the story, after she...more

*Possible series spoilers, beware*

The score is currently good – 2, evil – 1 and it’s the first side to reach 4 that wins. The scores are souls, one person in each book will reach his or her crossroads and the decision they make will count for either the good or the bad side; heaven and hell. Jim Heron is in the middle. An angel with both good and evil in him, he’s been fighting the fight for the good guys and intends to keep it that way, but a murdered yo...more

Well things just got interesting....oh boy.

I'm a little scared after reading this what Ward has in store now. Hmm...

I'm not sure I like the move Jim pulled at the end.:( Gave Devina waaaay too much leverage IMO. *sigh*

*slightly spoilerish ahead*

Wasn't planning on leaving a review for this but oops! would you look at that...

First let me just get this out..all this 'let's fuck' anger foreplay between Jim and Devina is grossing me the eff out. I mean really Ward? Come on! That shit is st...more

Rapture is the 4th installment of the Fallen Angels series by JR Ward. I am a huge fan of this series and listen to it on audio. This was my least favorite of the series, but I liked it, nonetheless.

In the battle for souls saved Jim Heron is winning 2 to 1. To say this doesn’t please Devina is an understatement. She cheated in the last round and is now reaping her punishment. She gets to keep her win, but Mathias is being sent back for a second chance at being redeemed.

Mels Carmichael is a jou...more

Please Note: The hero of this book has been kept pretty hush hush. If you want to go into the book with a totally clean slate, please don’t read this review.

Rapture is book four in JR Ward’s Fallen Angel series. I wasn’t a big fan of the first two, but the last book was an enjoyable read. Rapture falls down the middle. It is an okay book, slow at times, but continuing this battle between good and evil.

Matthias wakes up on top of a grave completely naked, and he has no memories of anything. He ca...more

Talk about an emotionally packed read. Wow! Each time I read one of The Fallen Angels books I think that J.R. Ward couldn’t possibly make me love these guys more, but I should have known better.

Envy was an emotional nightmare and throughout Rapture our beloved angels are still dealing with the fallout from those events. Seeing how broken Adrian is throughout Rapture is painful, but I never expected to become emotionally attached to the characters that this story centers around. As you can tell,...more

I went into this story having no idea who the hero was. After all, the official blurb makes no mention of his name, and I have to agree with the author/publisher that this was an excellent ploy -- had I known who the hero was, I'm not certain I would have given it a chance, and would have missed out on what turned out to be a really enjoyable story.

I definitely enjoyed it, with amnesia and physically scarred heroes eve...more

Ok-I started this book yesterday and knocked it out today! In a word, it was AWESOME just like I expected!!! I love that Jim Heron! I can remember thinking that I would not be into this series at all, but in a lot of ways, I love it more than the BDB series! Every book that I've read in this series keeps me holding on tight, where I just cannot put the darn book down until I have finished it!! I am totally head over heels for Matthias in the book, yes, even though he is a murderous sociopath! Wh...more

Review Edit -

Spoiler alert - please do not read further - truly I'm writing notes for my own record now and I'd hate to ruin anything for you. So, stop now if you haven't already read the book. And, well... if you feel like catching a whole lot of "blah blah" read on. ;)

This was the best story of the series so far. I think I can sum it up as follows

The most win's of 7 takes all. Breakdown:

Book 1 ~ a win
Book 2 ~ a loss
Book 3 ~ a win
Book 4! ha want a mind-bender as it's a 2 re-do and becomes a...more

fantastic! I wasn't certain how Ms Ward was going to pull out an HEA for Matthias, but really loved the by-play btwn the characters .

Devina made me laugh at her antics, no matter how evil. She is more than a little obsessed with Jim. He's workinga plan and I hope it works for him. Cant wait for the next Fallen Angels book.

This was my favorite of J.R. Ward's The Fallen Angels series so far. Matthias, who was introduced previously, has been sent back from Hell for a do-over in the supernatural contest between good and evil. On his first night back in the realm of the living, he's struck by a car driven by a reporter who has emotional problems of her own. It's the love story between these two that made this story so compelling and yes, believable.

There were a few things lacking in this story; no witty exchanges betw...more

This book sure surprised me. I knew that Davina would be punished for cheating in the previous book, and killing Eddy. But to have her price stolen from her, and battle again for his soul, that was great. It is really hard to write a review about this book without spoiling too much and ruin the surprises in it. The hero’s name is left out of the blurb for a reason of course. So, I have to take this from a different angle.

I liked Mels, she is stubborn as only a reporter can be. She really misses...more

I prefer this series to the Brotherhood; cast of characters is smaller, the names aren't silly, and the plotting and overall arc feel tighter. Not perfect, but better.

This was a quick, entertaining read that won't stay with me for long, but they don't all have to.

Usual caveats with regard to style. I say this with every review of this author's books because I wouldn't respect myself in the morning if I didn't, but I'm accepting that I'm spitting into the wind and her editor is never going to tak...more

This is the fourth installment of Ms Ward's Fallen Angles series. Ms Ward brings new life into the good vs evil story. Jim is an angle trying to lead the lost souls on the path of right while Devina is a demon who tries to temp the soul to evil. Whomever gets the soul, it is counted as a win. They have seven chances to win the lost soul. This last soul fell to evil but because Devina did what demons do, she cheated. So now the last soul gets a chance for a do-over. Will he make the right choices...more

Would you listen to Rapture again? Why?

ABSOLUTLEY! I am so loving this series. I was afraid it would never live up to BDB but it is amazing! I love getting lost in Caldwell all over again. This audio is amazing. The voices are great and the narrator Eric Dove is amazing!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mels...loved her! She is one kick ass heroine!

“Straight up, Mels, the only reason I haven't completely jumped you is because I can't. I...can't." He threw up his free hand and let it fall back down to the bedspread. "And you know what sucks? I've been with a lot of women."

Annnnnnnd that made her chest hurt. "Before you were injured..."

He nodded. "Of all the things for my memory to come back on, right?"

Cue another kick in the solar plexus. "You remember them?"

"I hate it– because I would trade every single random fuck for just one night with you." He brushed her face with his fingertips and then brought his thumb to her mouth. With the same gentle pressure he'd put against her wrist, he caressed her lower lip. "I'd give up every one of them. Matter of fact, it feels like...a curse to have finally found someone like you, only to have it be too late. And that's where it's at. It's too late for me, Mels, and that's how you're killing me. When I look at you, when I see you move, when you smile or take a deep breath, I just... I die a little. Every time.”
