I really enjoyed The Assembly Room. The story kept me hooked from the first chapter. When Merryn starts having the dreams of the Witch Trials from 1645 in Suffolk it is so detailed and descriptive I could imagine everything that was happening as if I am there with Merryn experiencing the dreams. The dreams where very horrific and the way the so called "withces" where treated was terrible and you can feel their pain coming of the pages.

Merryn was a great character. She is a strong protagonist th...more

I have always been fascinated by the study of witchcraft and the witchcraft trials for years now which is why I was really excited to find out about this book.

After finishing this book, I realized that it nothing like how I thought it would be, which can be a good thing. Because I knew quite a bit about witchcraft trials, I thought that the book was well written and well researched. I loved the idea of going into Merryn's dreams where she...more

What would you usually get when you move into a crummy old house? The Assembly Room of course, which comes with a package of dark, gory mystery neatly wrapped in a beautifully written story.

We start off with Merryn's family moving into the disgustingly rotting house that Merryn's father inherited from an insane late uncle. Right off the bat, we know that we're in for a disturbing past because really, all horror stories begin with someone doing something stupid...more

I received this book from good reads first reads on Nov 19 2012.
What a fun book. I realized right away that it was by a British writer. That made me smile. All the words we don't normally use, like jumper etc. I loved the history and how the women wanted revenge, but they also wanted to be known. They wanted their history to be known. I couldn't put this one down. I give it 2 thumbs up.

Great read.

I've never read any book about witch-hunts before. The story is really very interesting and can keep you from start to end. I really enjoyed reading the story.

It's a fast paced story which is about witch-hunting incidents that has occurred 350 years ago and its effects in current time.

The story starts just as a mystery story, then it changes to something between horror and fantasy.

I recommend this book to readers;
- Who is interested in the nature and reasons of witch craft and witch hunts.
- Who...more

A spooky yet entertaining read.

I won this book in a giveaway and finished reading it in a day! I liked the use of witch trials in the current era...and it was spooky enough to make me shudder. I look forward to more books by Bryony Allen.
