So I picked this up as part of a Black Friday bargain because I really liked the sound of it and I just couldn’t resist. I caved and did not regret it! This is an interesting twist on shifters, involving long-forgotten deities, ancient pacts, magic (YES!), and romance. I did a great deal of worrying about the characters and how things would turn out and I will certainly be keeping an eye out for the next book, Forged by Synergy. I caved and did not regret it! This is an interesting twist on shifters, involving long-forgotten deities, ancient pacts, magic (YES!), and romance. I did a great deal of worrying about the characters and how things would turn out and I will certainly be keeping an eye out for the next book, Forged by Synergy. One thing that did bug me was the omniscient perspective. You could be reading from the POV of Jatred one moment, and his uncle’s in the next paragraph. It did get a little bothersome, but as you can see, I still gave 5 stars!

The plot:
The plot was fascinating. I had a hard time figuring out whether the Goddess of the Summer race or the Winter race was the one who was evil and came to the conclusion that I hate them both. There was plenty of suspense and it was a rather clean story, particularly for being a romance. Jatred and Jasmira aren’t acting out on their hormones and that’s something I liked, but their relationship is still very intimate and sweet.

The characters:
I could get frustrated with both Jasmira and Jatred. If you check my Goodreads updates, you’ll see that I was getting very passionate in my protests against some of their actions. Nonetheless, it was a good kind of frustrated—the kind that comes from caring about the characters, not hating their guts. I thought they were both very interesting and well-developed, not cardboard at all.

There is a sort-of love triangle between Jatred and a human girl named Savannah who knows about the shifters. Oh, Savannah… On one hand I hated her because she was (inadvertently) getting in between Jatred and Jasmira. But at the same time, I loved her because…because she’s just so freaking lovable! I empathized with her completely when we heard about her and her ex being forced to break up by his family who didn’t approve of him being with a human. (He still has feelings for her, by the way.) She essentially raises her alcoholic mother and works very hard. I really hope to see her again in the next book because I really hope her life gets better and I sort of feel bad for thinking all those nasty thoughts about her.

Here is where it is customary for me to divulge my opinions on the villain. The problem is, I can’t divulge my opinion without divulging spoilers. I will only say that I was kept guessing and that the villain is done very well.

Overall, a neat YA urban fantasy romance that has a healthy dose of suspense and more than enough sweet “aww” moments. I certainly recommend!

So intriguing!
This tale of shifters, goddesses, & demons is quite unique! If you enjoy a fast-paced, action-packed, paranormal, romantic thriller that is sure to have you giggling before long then this would be the book for you! ;)
The characters are full of life, questions, & mystery. I really appreciated getting to hear the different POV's as the conflicts became more intense. It helped me to re-evaluate who's side I was truly on.

Ok, I have to say I wasn't really sure about this book when I started reading it. I don't know, I guess it was just the author's writing style I had to adjust too, becuase the more I read, the more I liked. If you like shifter novels as much as I do, I highly recommend this book to you. As you start reading you join Jasmira and Jatred, a young shifter couple who seem to be very happy, they are the princess and prince of opposing races. You then continue on to see a story of two races of shifters, their Goddesses and how this affects them all. I couldn’t stop reading this original YA urban fantasy! The Shifters live in our society, and an important event is coming. There are intrigue and mind games, and loyalties are tested. What is it about stories of forbidden love that makes it so fun to read about? It seems like no matter how many of these stories I read I am still a huge sucker for a good one, and this book is pretty darn good.

This story follows the basic outline of any story about forbidden love. A boy and girl fall for each other but for some reason they are not supposed to even talk to each other, let alone fall in love. In this book the boy and girl come from different species of supernatural shifters. Throughout all of time these different shifters have not been permitted to mingle but Jatred, the prince of the Winter Shifters, and Jasmira, the princess of the Summer Shifters inevitably find themselves head over heels in love with each other. Of course there are forces at work that are trying to split them up. Unlike most stories, not only are their family and friends trying to keep them apart, but these kids each have a Goddess to whom they owe their allegiance and each Goddess has their own agenda.
I fell in love with the characters in this book. Jatred and Jasmira are such sweet kids. You would think that with both of them being royalty they would be stuck up and spoiled but this was not the case. They were both pretty humble and very kind, especially to those that they are to rule. They care so much for each other and you can tell by the lengths that they go to in order to be with each other, even if some of the solutions turn out to be disasters. I was rooting for them to be able to truly be together throughout the book. Their friends were also great characters and were very supportive despite the rules that say they shouldn’t associate with one another. I loved that these teens were able to be examples to the older shifters of either tribe and were able to show them that despite being from different places and taking different forms when shifting, they are more alike than they are different. That is such a great message for teens to hear.
There are many twists in the plot that keep the story fast paced and keep you guessing at the outcome. Between crazy Goddesses, crazy fight scenes, strange natural disasters and the drama of young love there is never a dull moment. I can’t wait for book two so I can find out what will happen to Jatred and Jasmira. I am really hoping that they can find a way to be together.(less)

I'm sorry that this is going to be such a negative review. Most of the time, I know my taste in books well enough to not try to read one that isn't "my type." Well, this book was definitely NOT my type.

It's about two teenagers who are essentially shape shifters. I think that's what did it for me. I couldn't understand the strange culture between the "summer" and the "winter" shape shifters. Apparently I'm not into that.

How to review this book? Well, story wise I enjoyed it (with some exceptions). Layout wise, it needed some work.

I loved this book, I love shifter stories and this one was just that, a great shifter book, there was intrigue, drama, funny moments, I love all this in a book, it kept me hooked from the get go, I loved the plot of the story, there is usually a conflict when it comes to a love story, but this one was so much more than that, I thought the main characters were very well portrayed, I would love to sit inside the authors head, I love a happy ending but would love to have another outing with Jasmira and Jatred and all their friends, so hopefully this won’t be the end of them and the author has another book inside her head, I would gladly read it, infact I will look forward to it, Highly recommend this, already recommended to my daughter, she will love it, 5/5

Wow. Such a different shifter story! We follow lovers Jatred and Jasmira. I've never read a YA quite like this one. I love the Romeo and Juliet slant, and the love story between Jared and Jasmira worked for me and pulled me right in. I’ve read a few books about shifters but this was definitely different; in the good way. At the start I was a little concerned because it dove into the love story and I didn’t really know the characters well enough to understand whether it was a crush or a hint of ‘true love’. However, once Jatred’s memory was altered I liked it a lot more, how he couldn’t remember Jasmira but he saw hints of her in everything, and small traces of her lingered around him despite her not being near.

I had a very hard time settling on a rating for this book. There were things I liked about it, and things I really didn't. In the end I settled for the midpoint - 2.5 stars.

The story was a little slow going for about the first 50 pages or so. Not that the story lacked in this area, but I felt like it could have been shortened to make it flow like the rest of the book. I received this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion.

I gave this book 4.5 stars and here is why:

The main storyline was brilliant, two different sets of shifters and the royal head of each pack fall in love, which is forbidden in their world's.
I really enjoyed the sweetness of moments in the book but it was also thrilling and exciting.
I would have given it a 5 but I don't think there was enough of Jasmira in it compares to tons of Jatred.
