3.5 stars overall. Three short story Halloween treats, yum.

Of Monsters and Men by Jocelyn Drake - This was my favorite of the three an Asylum Tales connected short - I've read both the prequels and this apparently set after the first book Angel's Ink (guess I am going to have to shell out the big bucks and get that one, because self exiled mage Gage looks like he might be pretty interesting.) The local were pack need Gage's help when their monthly full moon run coincides with the Fae's Samhain N...more

MY REVIEW
I bought this e-book from Amazon.co.uk, I know I have read it at totally the wrong time of year as the books aim is to be read at Halloween, but I bought it and fancied reading something short and a little different. I also wanted to try reading work by these authors too, and I think a collection of short stories that this book is, is an ideal way of doing just that.
The cover is dark and mysterious, leaning towards being scary which totally suits the time of year this book aims to be re...more

*Beware of Spoilers*

I have quickly fallen in love with Jocelynn Drake’s Asylum Tales series so when I saw that she had a novella in this book, I had to check it out. And, she didn’t disappoint, but unfortunately the other stories got worse as this anthology went on. I’ll break it down by story complete with individual story ratings.

Three shorts by three talented authors. Each one an exciting, amazing and gripping adventure of love, acceptance and thrills, and each revolving around the Halloween holiday. This is a great read for paranormal lovers looking for a taste of new authors with great story telling and writing skill or if they just want some variety (with a side of spice) in their reading life :)

Sadly, not really my thing. I admit fault in that I was unfamiliar with any series these authors may have penned, but... it just didn't do it for me.

I also admit that I didn't read Of Monsters and Men by Jocelynn Drake. I'm fairly certain (well, hoping, anyway) that this is part of a larger series that the reader is dropped into, as I felt a bit disconnected with the characters. Plus, at no fault of the author, I'm not a big fan of fae in general.

I enjoyed Terri Garey's The Ghoul Next Door, but...more

OF MONSTERS AND MEN by Jocelynn Drake

For an anthology that is supposed to be romance driven, there is very little of the promised ‘passion’ going on between Gage and Trixie save some making out and references to sex. Beyond that little bit of false advertising, Gage made a few illogical decisions while trying to protect the werewolf pack resorting to magic when he didn’t need to. Overall, Gage came off as less confident in himself than in the full leng...more

I only read Jocelynn Drake's Of Monsters and Men and really liked it. What happens when the local werewolf pack clashes with the Winter Court's Wild Hunt? You'll definitely want to read this novella to find out. Five words: Gage in a wizard's robes. I'll just say that I found it quite humorous, then again, there isn't much Gage does that I don't find humor in.

I was glad to get another taste of Gage and Trixie as they are my favorite new urban fantasy couple. Every time I stumble into the Asylum...more

Only got this for the Jocelynn Drake, Asylum Tales short story-Of Monsters and Men. I really like Gage and want to see what kind of trouble he will get himself into next. This didn't let me down. I loved the Dark Days series and am really starting to love the Asylum Tales. Jocelynn Drake is becoming one of my new favorite authors. Hopefully this series continues for awhile because all of the other series I love reading are starting to end.

Of Monsters and Men by Jocelyn Drake
4 stars
I'm going to have to track down a full book by her to try!

The Ghoul Next Door by Terri Garey
2-1/2 stars

Trick or Treathen by Caris Rhoane
3-1/2 to 4 stars

These first 2 short stories were VERY short

I only read Jocelynn's (who is EVIL btw). Do NOT read before reading Angel's Ink. YOU WILL BE SPOILED. Story takes place AFTER AI...just FYI.

Jocelynn Drake's Of Monsters and Men was my favorite of these three stories, and the reason I wanted to read this. I enjoyed the further development of Gage and Trixie's romance.

Terri Garey's The Ghoul Next Door was ok but not as much fun as her full-length novels, and I didn't particularly like Trick or Treathen by Caris Roane, an author I haven't read before.
Beth
I liked all three of these stories although I like Jocelyn Drake's the most because I love that new series.
Erin
okaaaaaaay. not really sure what to think.

I really enjoyed Joceylnn Drake's Asylum Tale story.... but really could have done without the other stories. Each tale gets progressively worse in this anthology.....the vampire story being almost unbearable with all the stereotypical vamp cliches..... down to the long hair and leather pants.
