"A good night for killing." The books starts off with this eerie line. A description of the mind of the killer ensues, followed by ghastly murder. It was gruesome, but it got me hooked right from the first page. This is a fast-paced thriller with an intriguing plot that makes you keep thinking about the characters and events even after you finished reading the book.

This a fast paced exciting adventure! The story is well written and the characters well developed. The hero DCI Matt Proctor will I think be around for several books to come. (If that isn't the author's intention then it should be!)
I like Peter James' character - Roy Grace, and I think Proctor is at least as good. The supporting characters are also interesting.
The story is based around Birmingham and has an authentic feel both in terms of locations and police procedure.
It is a modern crime stor
