This book is comparable to WGF Jackson's Attack in the West, in that it is an older, general survey of Napoleon's first campaign.

One area in which it does not compare favorably with Jackson's book is maps. The mappage (is that a word?) in Attack in the West is far superior, in that it allows the reader to follow the action much more easily.

One nice feature of Napoleon in Italy, though, is that at the end of each major phase of the campaign, there is a chapter titled "In consideration of..." Th
