When Vania moves from Australia to Summerland, California, the last thing she expects to feel is that she's come home. Maybe it's Summerland's unusual history - Vania is drawn to stories about magic and witchcraft and, as she discovers, the pretty coastal town was settled by Spiritualists.

And Vania's not the only teenager in town interested in magic. There are a few others...more

RATING: 3.5 VANIA stars!

“Mm-m-massive lips.....Mrs Fish, Vania Thorn, Fish Lips.”

Cassidy Walters is a mean girl. I am older and wiser, now. With what I know now, she would have been going dooowwwnnn!! on that school bus trip. Alas I was just like Vania, I was not a hero or a toughie. It would have been nice to have had some mind mojo....just a little J

Vania Thorn has lived fifteen years of her life in Australia. A job opportunity arises and her parents take her home to their town of Summerland,...more

I read a lot of books, and I especially read a lot of supernatural and YA fiction, but not many of them stay with me like "Witch" has done. I have found myself, days later, still pondering over the adventures of Vania and her friendship coven. Unlike many teenage, female protagonists, Vania is not annoying. The character feels more real rather than deliberately likeable, and the author hasn't tried to be cool, with smart alec quips and badly replicated teenage vernacular, that some writers feel...more

Ever felt like you just don’t fit in?
That you’re a freak?
Maybe you’re a witch.

Witch by Fiona Horne is the perfect book for a sunny afternoon. With character that everyone can relate and identify with.

After spending her life growing up in Australia Vania parents decide it’s time to move back to Summerland, California.

Vania is your average 16 year old girl. A little bit of a loner who wants nothing more than to fit in at school and maybe even have a boyfriend.
When her over protective parents de...more

The Australian book industry is a bit strange. Anywhere else, the prominent blurbs would be from reputable publications (Publishers Weekly, Kirkus) or bestselling novelists in the same genre. But here, novels are blurbed by celebrities. Hugh Jackman's quote covered a Tara Moss book. Dannii Minogue's promo fronts Fiona Horne's Witch.

Fiona Horne is best known as a non-fiction author specialising in modern witchcraft. She was also in a band, Def FX, who only did one song that I remember. (It was in...more

I absolutely loved reading 'Witch'. As an adult reader, I've been both enthralled and disappointed by young adult novels in recent years, but 'Witch' was a breath of fresh air and an absolute joy to read. The characters were distinct with clear individual voices, and Vania 'real' - I remember in my teens feeling such emotional fluctuations, wanting to be good with the temptation to indulge in more negative feelings at times (and giving into it sometimes :o). Fiona paints clear, atmospheric scene...more

It certainly wasn't bad, I just prefer more older YA stories. Fantastic for a younger YA audience! Review coming.
