Having permanently left her Midwest roots behind, making it in New York is validation for Allison Taylor. Like millions of other New Yorkers, she never fathoms the horror about to unfold in the days to come.

Infertility has become the final nail in the coffin for Mack MacKenna’s marriage, or so he thinks on Monday evening. Tuesday morning, however, shatters that illusion with devastating finality.

The unmitigated horror of 9/11 shakes the entire country, yet Allison is subjected to one more unfath

I blasted my way through this suspenseful book, the first in the trilogy by Wendy Corsi Staub featuring the character of Allison Taylor. I have already ordered the 2nd and 3rd books in the trilogy from the library.

Most of the people in the book came from seriously dysfunctional families. Allison certainly did. Her dad abandoned her and her mom when she was a child and then her depressed mother committed suicide. They had been on food stamps and whispered about and treated poorly in the rural are

This book was emotional - you can't help but flash back to the 9/11 attacks when reading the descriptions and relate to what the characters were feeling. I felt the suspense related to the serial killer plot of the book was lacking. Perhaps, that is because the emotion of 9/11 superseded everything else? I'm not sure. I also did not like the ending - it frustrated and disappointed me. I understand that it lends itself to the sequel, but.... Overall, this was a good book and I plan to read the se ...more

After leaving her Midwestern hometown of Centerfield, Allison Taylor picks up and leaves the quiet life for something more...interesting. And now, amid a three year lifestyle makeover, in the bustling city of New York, Taylor lives and works as a style editor at 7th Avenue magazine. She loves her job, the urban scene, and the cutthroat fashion business.

Then it happens. Allison's nightmares begin. First, it is the act of terrorists, any large city's worst fears--and the act is immediate, two plan

This is the first book in the series, the setting is in New York during 9/11. With all the chaos, a murder takes place. Allison Taylor is a tenant in the building and friends with another tenant, Kristina, who lives one floor above her. Then handyman, Jerry, is always watching Kristina, who is creeped out by him. Allison feels Jerry is harmless. Then terrorist strike and everything is in chaos. Allison hasn't heard from Kristina, but hears a song being played over and over. Not knowing if Kristi ...more
Great story telling!

This book was an emotional roller coaster. The background story is during the horrific time of New York's tragic 911 events. Remembering exactly where I was and what I was doing when the first reports started coming through the radio as I read the tragic events unfold in the book was a struggle at times. The author's description made me feel like I was there...and I wanted out!

At times I had to put the book down because I needed to collect myself. But nevertheless the story b

Really enjoyed this book. Allison loves everything about living in New York, but on a clear day in Sept. everything changes when the familiar landscape is altered by two planes crashing into the twin towers just blocks away from her apartment. In the mist of all the fear and the tragedy of 9/11 the woman who lives above her is found brutely murdered and Mack her neighbor across the halls wife is missing in the smokey ruins. Detective Rocky Manzillo is assigned to the case as while he is working ...more

got better as it went along...was looking forward to second book in series after I saw some reviews.
I was totally surprised by this book. With a title like Nightwatcher I thought it would be about vampires or zombies or something. Instead it was a very good murder mystery.

What was really different thought was the setting. Starting on 9/10/2001 in NYC the entire drama is entertwined with the chaos and grief of WTC bombings. Communications are down, the police force is devastated and yet the murders continue. Very well written and a good reminder of how much all our lives changed on that fateful
Not one of her best.

Staub is boss when it comes to relaying fictionalized accounts of revulsion. “Nightwatcher” is one such book. A disturbing yet suspenseful tale that will take you into the mind of a serial killer amidst the calamity and horror of real terror on American soil.

Staub allows glimpses into the psyche of not just the serial killer but of his victims as well. As they go about their days leading up to their murders, through Staub, they tell us their own feelings relating to the 9/11 attack in New York,
Terrifying in more than one way, this novel holds the interest of the reader from the very beginning and just does not let go. The book begins the night before the terrorist strike on New York on September 11, 2001.

Allison Taylor lives in Manhattan and loves it. Allison is a style editor at 7th Avenue Magazine. Kristina Haines lives in the apartment above Allison's and the two are neighbors. Kristina is an aspiring Broadway actress. The two visit in the laundry room from time to time and have e

This was my first read by Wendy Corsi Staub that was met with mixed reviews from others so I wasn't sure what my opinion would be, but I loved it!

I found that I really enjoyed the story and found it easy to read and difficult to put down! I thought that it was a pretty intense story that I thought I had parts of it figured out early on, only to be overly surprised at the actual outcome! It also brings back so many deep haunting memories of the terrifying ordeal of 9/11 and almost takes you back
I have never read anything by this author before and I am glad that I finally have! This book was very good set in the backdrop of the 9-11 terrorist attacks on the twin towers. On a seemingly normal Tuesday morning, Mack has had enough with his wife and tells her he wants a divorce. Carrie, his wife, leaves for work in the the first tower but never returns. Mack is devastated by her loss but then things turn even worse when a woman in his building is murdered....on the night of 9-11. What kind ...more
I loved this book. It takes place during September 11, 2001, one of the saddest days in America's history. It follows the story line of Mack's wife going missing, 2 women, Marriane and Kristina, getting murdered by Jerry, and a friendship between Allison and Mack forming. It starts off with Carrie going to the World Trade Center to work, but never makes it out alive. Mack never sees her again, but gets evidence such as her wedding ring. Then, Kristina, Allison's friend, gets murdered one night w ...more

Set during 9/11 chaos,//Nightwatcher// tells the story of an investigation destined to be sidelined amid the larger, more horrific tragedy. The case of a possible serial killer is made all the more complicated by overburdened DNA laboratories, a shut-down transit system and an overwhelmed law enforcement community.

Author, Wendy Corsi Staub, carefully weaves together scenarios that may or may not be connected. The idea that a killing spree may have been kindled by stressors following the fall of

Auhor Wendy Corsi Staub provides a chilling narrative of not only the
events that took place on that fateful day of Sept. 11, 2001, but of a sadistic killer that is on the loose amongst the chaos and destruction of a city under siege. NIGHT WATCHER will keep your heart pumping and your palms sweaty as you try to figure out this whodunit.

Alison Taylor loves her life amongst the hustle and bustle of New York City. However, little does she know that her lif
The story itself isn't bad...the only problem is that this book is part one of a trilogy.

If the author would have written just one book (combining the three books) then I'm sure the book would have a been a really good read. I don't think that the author had to extend the story into three books, because the story itself seems to have benefited more from being contained in one book. Since "Nightwatcher" is book one of a trilogy, in this book the serial killer is not caught. The concept of a seri

Brilliant, Intense fast-paced, this thriller will keep you on the edge wanting more!

Allison Taylor is a New Yorker all the way, she loves the fast paced, chaotic lifestyle that is her home in Mew York City!

But on that Tuesday Morning of September 11th 2001 her city faced the worst terrorist attack that shock the whole country. That changed her city and the people there forever. That morning started out like every other morning for Allison until the planes hit and the buildings fell, sending th
This was a good read but very depressing. The fictional story was great but the fact that it happened during Sept. 11, 2001 made it a very depressig read. The author did a fine job of capturing the emotions of what happened on that day, the saddness, the loss and the emotions but it made the story even sadder than it already is.
If you are a fan of mystery and murder I think you would like this book. I did enjoy it very much but was just sad throughout the book.

Nightwatcher was definitely a book that took some time to grow on me. It felt like too many characters were being introduced too quickly at the start & barely any time was given to characterize them well. Even the details that were provided felt unnecessary. However, 20 pages in, the action finally starts to pick up. The relationships between the characters develop and an interesting turn of events makes you care about each person and their story. The homicides paired with a backdrop of the ...more

First thought when finished: Nightwatcher is the first Wendy Corsi Staub book that I have read and it was a great mix of characters/story.

What I thought of the story: Nightwatcher used one of the thriller tricks that isn't my favorite (I won't say because it will give something away) so that is why I rated the story lower. The writing was powerful and compelling. Most of the book I was trying to figure out the ins/outs and

A little gory in the crime scenes and I didn't like how the ending of this story is a direct beginning to the next without closure. It's like the same story in a part two novel.

There's just too many characters and point of view... And Mack is just sooo... I don't know what to say.. 'weak' I guess, and it kinda kill the mood to read further..
This was differently a thrill ride. This was one of those books you just couldn't put down. I really got in to the character and the stories. This was a really go book
If you love heart-pacing thrillers, you'll enjoy the first book in the NightWatcher trilogy by Wendy Corsi Staub. Set during 9/11/11 in New York City, before the War of Terrorism started, we're introduced to Allison Taylor and James MacKenna. Two different people who led two different lies with turbulent lives, both neighbors and friends in the same apartment. But besides the terror out there, there's terror inside their apartment building, when one of their neighbors is murdered. And while Alli ...more
