When I was in school, the Vietnam War had been over for several years, yet no one talked about it. It was like a passing mention in a textbook. This book serves to teach the next generation more about what shaped those that came before them and to what so much media refers in our current conflicts.

The book focuses on six men who were instrumental in the conflict, each with approximately the same number of pages of information given to each one. Each one of them had a different role in the war

This Profiles series by Scholastic is fascinating. I had never heard of Ngo Dinh Diem, for example, and this book gives an overview of his life and leadership, up to his assassination. This also included Kennedy (whom I never really connected with Vietnam), Ho Chi Minh, Lyndon B. Johnson, William Westmoreland, and Henry Kissinger. Each person gets about 20 pages, describing not only his life, but his involvement with Vietnam. Each person got a different border color, and the layout and pictures ...more
This is the second title in this series that I've read, and I am quite struck by how much territory can be explored from different perspectives by focusing on six different individuals. In the case of this book, the author endeavors to explain the reasons behind the Vietnam War and some of the controversy associated with is conclusion. To do so, he offers brief biographies of Ngo Dinh Diem, John F. Kennedy, Ho Chi Minh, Lyndon B. Johnson, William Westmoreland, and Henry Kissinger, all of whom ...more

This book really helped me understand the whole purpose of the Vietnam war. I never knew much about that war except from movies that I saw about it such as Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, and Apocalypse Now. I knew that we were fighting in that war to stop communism, but I never knew about the politicians who started it or why it ever took place. I recommend this book to not just Americans, but to everyone to see what communism can do to a country and the damage it can cause some people. Vietnam was ...more

This book tells who the main people in the Vietnam war are. They tell how there lives began and how they died. The year they were born and the year they died. The president who was present during the Vietnam war. Which is John F. Kennedy. Read the book and find out stuff about his life.

This book is a great introduction into the Vietnam War. My student is 6th grade and some of the material was over his head which gave other opportunities for lessons. It gives an overview of of what was happening from the leaders perspectives in a biography form.

This book was very informative and taught me new things about the Vietnam war. It described 6 people that changed the course of Vietnam. All of them contributed to make this war long and brutal. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves history or war.

Very interesting book! The book may be tiny but it is stuffed with lots of information about the Vietnam War and the leaders during that time period. I'm glad I read it.

I don't know much about the Vietnam war, so I picked up this little collection of biographies as an introduction. It's a nice introduction that is people oriented .
