For us pet lovers, hopefully, we will see some of the changes that the fictional town of Wagtail made regarding where one is able to take their pets.

I've never read Krista Davis' other series, the domestic diva series, which I do know comes highly rated from other cozy readers. The topic doesn't necessarily appeal to me so when I found out she was going to write a new series about animals, I was all over that, being a huge dog lover myself.

I liked this one well enough. The story follows Holly who is summoned to her grandmother's inn in Wagstail, VA after a horrible accident leaves one of her grandmother's employees dead and the whole town wo...more

First in a new series. Holly Miller has just lost her job in DC when she gets a phone call that her grandmother needs her. Oma lives in Wagtail, VA. She runs a beautiful and widely known B and B. Wagtail is a resort and haven for both humans and their pets. Holly arrives the night of a murder and there is another murder the next day! She is one of two people to discover the body. Who is out to disturb this peaceful little town? Holly and her newly adopted dog named Trixie help provide clues for...more

Holly Miller’s life has gone to the dogs. She has no job and her boyfriend’s old girlfriend wants him back and since she is his boss’s daughter she is always around. Then she gets a phone call to return home to Wagtail from her grandmother’s friend saying her grandmother needs her. She wastes no time, hops into her boyfriend’s car, tells him she will call when she knows more and heads to Virginia. She makes a quick stop for gas before heading up the mountain and picks up a “hitchhiker” – A Jack...more

A 5 Star cozy mystery with more twists and turns than a mountain road!! Holly Miller loses her job as she is urgently called to Wagtail Mountain by her grandmother, Oma. Oma owns the Sugar Maple Bed & Breakfast Inn. On the way up the mountain, Holly picks up a stray Jack Russell Terrier she names Trixie; almost hits a strange man standing in the middle of the road; witnesses an explosion which turns out to be a car pushed over the mountainside; and arriving at the Inn, finds Oma with a sprai...more

"Murder, She Barked" is a cozy mystery. It's the first book in a fun new series. I loved how the animals were connected into the mystery yet they still acted realistically as an untrained, energetic dog and curious kitten. The book is full of pets and is set in a pet-oriented town, so it's appealing to pet-loving readers. I also enjoyed the varied and realistic characters, and Holly is a likable, nice person.

The mystery was a clue-based puzzle and was fairly complex since there were multiple cri...more

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this book. I read it, straight after finishing the last installment of the Domestic Diva series, intrigued by the peek-preview of the next in Paws and Claws Mystery.

The book is filled with fantastic, colorful characters. The main protagonist is charming and so real. I loved the milling crowd - if you read Domestic Diva series, you will be used to it and that's the part of Ms Davis' stories' charm. What I also liked is that even the 'not-so-nice' characters were softened and b...more

I liked the characters, the town and the pets, so I'm looking forward to this series continuing. It did suffer a little from first book syndrome and having to explain everything. Also, no one seemed that broken up by the murders, which was a bit surprising. But I think it will pick up and I'm looking forward to the next one.

This is the first in a new series (Paws and Claws Mysteries) by Krista Davis. It takes place in Wagtail, Virginia, a small town which has reinvented itself as a pet vacation hot spot. The entire town has become pet friendly, and hosts several stores/businesses that cater to supplying the doting pet owners almost anything they can imagine for their pets, from collar and leashes to special grooming, food treats and clothes.
Holly Miller is summoned home because her grandmother has been injured in a...more

Krista Davis has a writing style that appeals to me along with a real knack for character development. This is a great kick off to another great series by her.
This would have been a 5-star read if it weren't for the far fetched angles to the conclusion of the mystery.

This is the first of a new series for Krista Davis.

Holly leaves her boyfriend and the business scene, and rushes to see her Grandmother as she fears something has happened to her. Something has, but what===and what has Grandma been doing? Her cozy inn is now a must for vacationer with pets. In fact, the whole village of Wagtail has become a haven for dogs, cats, and any other variety of pet. But there's danger of the murderous kind afoot.

This is a mystery with a lost dog, a secret passage, and...more

The novel is a cozy little mystery set at the Sugar Maple Inn in the dog-friendly town of Wagtail, Virginia. Holly Miller loses her job and then receives an urgent message from Wagtail that her grandmother Liesel needs assistance. On the way she picks up a stray Jack Russell terrier and arrives to find her grandmother with a sprained ankle and embroiled in a murder mystery.

The author has created a charming setting with Wagtail and the Sugar Maple Inn. I’d spend a weekend there in a heartbeat. So...more

I just finished this book today and wanted to give my general opinions. NO SPOILERS! This is my first Krista Davis read, and I really wasn't impressed. I thought the characters were immensely dull and especially the lead, who was rather quite boring with no real humor, smarts, or quirks. Her dog plays a bigger role in the mystery solving than she does. And speaking of the dog, she gets into so many mixups it does get very old. The love interest(s) are also boring. I couldn't really find a single...more

This new series by Krista Davis is a great read! As mentioned in previous reviews of Davis’s work, I was becoming a little tired of her main characters (albeit good stories and a great break every now and then, but lacking), but Davis makes up for those short comings with this great new take. I love that the character is younger (late 20s), who has some time to figure out who she is and what she wants. And the characters are all ju...more

Recommends it for: cozy mystery fans who enjoy everyday pets in their stories
It's been 5 years since Holly has been back to Wagtail, and she is surprised to find the former tourist town in the mountains that she remembered has been transformed into a premier pet resort. Wagtail is now an animal lover's paradise for tourists. Her grandmother's sleepy bed and breakfast has transformed into a resort getaway for owners and pets, with cat and dog buildings to cater to their needs. All businesses are accepting of animals on the premises, and many businesses offer special perks...more

I won my copy of Murder, She Barked by Krista Davis, through GoodReads FirstReads and I loved it! The story starts with main character and narrator Holly Miller on her way to visit her grandmother in the charming pet-loving resort town of Wagtail, Virginia. Holly was a wonderful narrator and character! On her way to Wagtail, Holly finds an adorable stray Jack Russell terrier who chooses Holly as her rescuer, promptly jumping into the backseat of Holly's borrowed car. Once in Wagtail, strange and...more

Cozy mysteries resident Domestic Diva, Krista Davis is going in a new direction with the first book in her new Paws and Claws Mystery series, Murder She Barked. Wagstail, Virginia is a very special town, dedicated to pets and their persons. Davis does a fantastic job of making this little town a place that pet owners and their pets will love. From restaurants that allow pets, and even give them their own menu's to activities designed just for cats and dogs, there seems to be a lot going on, incl...more

I enjoyed Krista Davis' first installment in this new cozy series. The mountain town of Wagtail was very charming. In an effort to boost tourism, the town has been made over to cater to pets. Holly Miller is our main character, and her grandmother Liesel has owned the Sugar Maple Inn in Wagtail at least since Holly was a child. Holly's life has kept her from visiting Wagtail in eons, but she rushes to Liesel's side after a troubling phone call from Rose, Liesel's bff. It turns out a valued emplo...more

This book is for the pet lover in all of us! I was anxious to see Krista Davis, the author of the fabulous Domestic Diva series, take a new direction and just knew that I had to get a copy of this book and check it out. You may think you've wandered into Neverland when you follow Holly Miller to Wagtail, a mountain resort where everyone has a dog and takes it everywhere, from resort hotels to restaurants to pet boutiques. I gave this 4/5 stars.

She borrows her boyfriends car and heads from Washington DC to her grandma's Inn in Wagtail, VA. On the way, she stops for gas and is adopted by a little Jack Russel Terrier. Wonderful, funny and very well written murder mystery. Small town that caters to animals with their owners on vacation. Everything set up for animal friendly vacations. Then murder comes to town. Excellent murder mystery with the animals taking center stage. Loved reading it and really enjoyed the interaction between animals and humans. As an animal lover, this book is a hit with me. And adding a murder or two in the mix, you've got a winner.

Wagtail sounds like a wonderful place!

Everything just seems to fall into place for Holly as soon as she arrives in Virginia (the only place that has ever really been home for her).

Trixie and Twinkle both belong with Holly, and she realizes it as soon as she is faced with losing them. I could not imagine losing either of my cats, we knew they belonged with us almost as soon as they arrived.

I really hope that Holmes comes to his senses & realizes where he really belongs (and who he really belo...more
