I admit it took me a while to even get started reading this novella, In the Footsteps of the Silver King, by Paul Kareem Tayyar. Once I started, I had a hard time putting it down. I hoped to get some reading done of my vacation, and as that didn't happen, I opened it up while waiting for a plane on the way home. I forgot for several times I was in the airport terminal! This story follows Patrick Karimi as he embarks on a journey he never thought he'd take.

The story starts as a long prologue show

Great little novella. I bought it when it first came out but just finished reading it now that I set aside some time.

When I first bought it via Amazon, I read the first chapter (My Father Rode Horses and Stole Cars). The story became immediately endearing, I was taken by the lovely style and ideas. I read only

It's about a guy who goes on a quest that leads him from Los Angeles to Iran...in 159 pages. I enjoyed the writing and the story line, but I wish it had gone through one more round of edits. I also wish it were novel length. There was way too much story to fit into a novella. I do like regional writing though. It's a very convincing picture of California, if not always realistic. Can you imagine an LA County Fair in the heart of Downtown? Tayyar just describes what the drive and parking situatio ...more

A excellent first novel from Paul Kareem Tayyar, who has already established himself as a poet of the first order. Take a trip with a son who alights on a quest for his estranged Iranian father and on the way finds love and assistance from survivors (or admirers) of the 60's. By turns funny and serious, romantic and surreal, this first-person narrative pulls you into a unique life worth knowing more about.
