As I opened the package and pulled out the free review copy of Wanda E. Brunstetter’s latest “book”, I knew I was due to be disappointed. Goodbye to Yesterday was only 121 pages long. In a small oval on the front cover were the words “The Discovery Part 1 of 6.”

I had been hearing rumors that publishers were experimenting with serials. (Long ago, prior to the development of paperback books, newspapers and magazines routinely published books as serials in their publications.) I presumed that the s

I was pretty disappointed with this one actually. It's a tiny book with large print that in reality is only the first few chapters of a "real" book. I would have been pretty disappointed had I bought this book. There is nothing that is resolved in this part of the story. It sets up for continuing the series but in no way can be read on it's own. It honestly felt like a rip-off- a way to make money by forcing people to buy different parts of the same book. I'm not sure what the publisher or autho ...more

Part 1 of 6. LOVE this Format. Sometime you want a quick easy read instead of being tied down to a long book. Nice change.

Wanda Brunstetter is one of my favorite authors and this book was a wonderful one. I quickly fell in love with the story of Meredith and Luke. They are dealing with the loss of Luke's job and my husband is currently in the same position so this is a dilemma I can definitely relate to. The anxiety related to the financial stress causes arguments between the young newlyweds, and Meredith is pretty sure that she is expecting their first baby. She does not want to tell Luke until she has it confirme ...more

I was very excited to be able to read one of Ms. Brunstetter's books! I have seen many of her books before and I know she is a very accomplished author.

This particular book is actually part 1 of a 6 part series. It's more of a serialized novel. Think of it more like your favorite tv show where you are left waiting for the next episode.

I am quite surprised that this book's rating is not higher because I found it quite amazing. I have become a true lover of Amish fiction, so I jumped at the chance to read this first installment of the author's "Discovery" series. I love the fact that the couple is already married. And they are experiencing things that other couples can relate to. From the moment I picked up the book, I did not want to put it down.

This is a short book, and it will leave you hanging. I can hardly wait to read the

Luke and Meredith are newlyweds. Luke recently lost his job and tensions are high as he looks for a source of income. Then an offer comes along that seems to be a dream come true. But Meredith has reservations and can't shake her worries.

The story seemed to speed forward without much character or plot development. The clues given made the ending very predictable. Before my attention could be captured the story was over. With only 114 pages (in a 1/2 size book) the book seems more of an excerpt

What?!? I won an ARC of this book--well, what I thought was a book. Can't figure out exactly what is going on here. Is this a tease for a new book coming out, or is this the first "book" of a series....??? I can't believe this is for sale on for $4.97 for pb and $5.59 for kindle. 121 pgs, but SMALL pages with large typeface. The story as far as it got is fine--I probably would enjoy the ENTIRE story--but I felt cheated. I would have been seriously annoyed had I paid the price for what ...more

The writing seems very childish, and not well thought out. I would honestly recommend these more toward tweens and teens, as their first dip into more adult Christian Fiction. The scenes are very clean, and not the least bit edgy at all.

This is Book One in the Discovery Series. This "novella", not "novel" (per the publisher) was okay. I was shocked at how short it is, as it ended so abruptly.
This story starts in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at the home of Luke and Meredith, still referred to as newlyweds at one year and four months. (Are the Amish newlyweds until they get pregnant? Usually newlyweds are newlyweds for the first year?)

Wanda Brunstetter writes a new series "The Discovery" little small books in 6 parts Goodbye to Yesterday-The Silence of Winter-The Hope of Spring-The Pieces of Summer-A Revelation in Autumn-A Vow for Always.

I prefer to have them all in one, to me it seemed as if you were reading few chapters in each book and the story of Luke and Meredith was told throughout the 6 books.

Book #1 the young couple were struggling when Luke had lost his job, they had not been married long and it put a toll on the re

As this book ends in a cliff hanger, I can only hope that a disaster is not forthcoming. In one short book I have become invested in these two sweet people and want the best for them.

As a young married couple Luke and Meredith start off happily enough. But when Luke loses his job it causes them both to argue. Living off their savings and unsure of their financial future they become more withdrawn from one another. Their relationship starts to hurt even though their love for one another is deep. The stress of their situation becomes palpable despite their faith. When Luke is offered to take over his uncle's business he is eager to jump in and start learning the trade, but Mer ...more

If you're looking for a great Amish novel that is broken into manageable pieces, you might want to pick up a copy of Wanda E. Brunstetter's, Goodbye to Yesterday. Whenever I read a Wanda Brunstetter book there either a hit or miss not a middle of the road read for me but unfortunately that's just how I would label her latest novelette "Goodbye to Yesterday."

The bad economy has hit Lancaster,Pa causing Luke Stolzfus to be let go from his job as a furniture maker, causing his one year marriage to Meredith to hit a rocky patch. He worries what he will do to earn money for his family and refuses to allow Meredith to find a job. When he learns that an uncle in

I really enjoyed reading this series. The books were short and easy to read. I read each book in less than two hours. The story line was consistent from book to book. This was the first time I have read books by this author and I will be looking for more of her books.

I was so excited to read this book. It is part one of six in a serial which honestly—I do have mixed feelings about. Even at the $4(ish) that I paid for this book it is a little expensive for a 120 page mini-book. As it turns out if I pay that for each of the six small parts it will come up to quite a bit to own the entire collection and that leaves me with mixed feelings. I also really enjoyed the story and I would give it a five star rating but I have a feeling that I’m going to forget what is ...more

The Discovery - A Lancaster County Saga (Book 1)

I am impatient and hate to wait for next book. So I waited to read till I could read all six books around same time. Goodbye to Yesterday is the first book in the six-part serial series. This was good and am going to start reading book 2 right away. It is also a good clean read.

Ending on a cliffhanger, Wanda E. Brunstetter’s first book, Goodbye to Yesterday in her all new Discovery series takes readers on a journey many are facing today.

Hit by the recession, newly married Luke and Meredith face financial struggles as Luke is unemployed. When a promising opportunity for work comes up Luke wants to jump on the idea. In browsing NetGalley I came across a series that truly peaked my interest. It's the story of newlyweds Luke and Meredith Stoltzfus. It's a story of their struggles and a story of their love. Luke finds himself searching for a job that will provide for his family. Meredith finds herself searching for the right ...more

My Thoughts On Part One
I really love Meredith and Luke and struggled with them as they made the decision for Luke to travel to Indiana for a few weeks. Meredith has doubts about the trip, and she was right, Luke was mugged and left for dead when a troubled teen decided to take his money and identity. Luke is now in this hospital fighting for his life.

You can always count on Wanda Brunstetter for a good book! I found this story to be very true to life especially with the challenges in today’s economy. Newlyweds Luke and Meredith Stoltzfus find themselves with financial problems. Luke is unemployed and as a good Amish husband he refuses to let his wife work. The burden of being jobless has caused a strain on their relationship as money problems so often do.
His prayers seem to be answered when his uncle in another state offers to sell him his
