I am going to SLAM my review. Not really sure if I SLAMMED it correctly, to be honest. Before I do, I need say this- this book deserves an endless number of stars!
I fell in love with a book by an author
Who wrote the most beautifully compelling story
I think I have ever read
For real
A story of two people struggling to climb a mountain of quicksand
With nothing to grab onto but each others hand
A story of a heart shattering love
And life's winding roads

Don't take life too seriously. Punch it in the face when it needs a good hit. Laugh at it.
Inspiring! I am genuinely floored by the brilliance of this book! I adored every single one of these amazing characters and the way they were so realistically portrayed. The unique plot, the bitter-sweet tension, and the tender romance all had me mesmerized...but I won't further digress on these elements, as I'm sure they will clearly speak for themselves...

First, there are few things you'll have to find before you start to read Slammed.
1. Phone number of your favorite pizza place in town. I promise that you will get hungry, especially after one delicious description.
2. Chocolate milk on the ice!
3. Your favorite Johnny Deep movie.
4. Box of paper tissues - you'll be so sappy after few parts.
5. Something to smash against your wall (but make sure it's something you won't miss or cause yelling-fest with your mother)...more

Slam poetry plays a major role in Colleen Hoover's "Slammed." So instead of the traditional way, I present you my attempt at a simple poetic review. Note: "Schooled" is originally written by Layken Cohen, the main female character in this book.

I confess I wasn't slammed right away. In fact, I was devistated. Utterly disappointed and totally convinced this was going to be another generic romance that happens way too quickly....

This was such a moving story! I couldn't put this down once I started reading.
Eighteen year-old Layken, or Lake, has just moved to Michigan from Texas. Her father has just died six months earlier and her mother moves them there because she gets a good job offer and they can no longer afford their house. Immediately after pulling up with the moving van, Lake meets the neighbor across the street, Will, and his little brother Caulder. He's a few years older than Lake, and in her eyes, "hot." Wanted to love it, but this is not my kind of romance. Not even for a YA romance.
SLAMMED was angsty teenage love story with a heart wrenching sub-plot, but the heroine made it a very disappointing read. I expected a more mature minded heroine, not an overly emotional girl who thinks a mad boy crush after one date is the 'real thing'. The whole high school giggly student bit was a turn off for me.

This book was awful. Utterly horribly, sadistically, terrible! I can't believe I tortured myself with this and actually enjoyed it! What's wrong with me? Oh, I know, I love to read, and books like this are WHY I love to read. Pretty much every heart string I have was not tugged, but aggressively yanked, until I couldn't help the hicuppy sobs that were escaping me.

4.5 Lovely and Adorable stars.

This was an oddly compelling read for me.
It fostered an innate beauty that's impossible not to fall in love with,
Something that brings a genuine smile to your lips, and wants you to cherish it like a delightful memory.
The poetry was fucking awesome, the best part of the book, no doubt AT ALL.

It started like a normal YA romance; girl meets boy, girl gets annoyed by too-forward boy but couldn't stop being all, omg-he's-so-adorbs! In a span of a week, these two creatures found themselves surrounded by floating hearts, y'all. And then, the unsuspecting plot twist came and shot every floating hearts over their heads. How rude.

As soon as I finished this book I really wanted to start it all over again. How can you NOT fall in love with Will and Lake? I also really loved the honesty, humor and goofiness that comes from Kel and Caulder. (Although maybe we see even more of that in book 2.) I enjoyed the Chuck Norris jokes and I also enjoyed the author's humor that she gave her characters.

OK So I totally wasn't expecting this book to be what it was about.(And I'm not going to say here cause it'll wreck the surprise)
I, incorrectly, made the assumption that it was band or music related as it had been recommended to me as a good read after Thoughtless and the cover had a stage on it etc. It's not.
Also I am not a huge fan of poetry in any form but in this scenario it really worked for me.

Slammed is a charming and emotional story with unpredictable storyline. This book is beautifully written and I was grabbed into it right from very beginning. I have never been fond of poetry and to be honest I have never truly understood it. But I was completely mesmerized by slam poems in this book. I got really emotional just by reading them and I wished I could see people perform them too.

I'm not really sure what to say about this book. Until about 60% it was very like any other YA book you've read or heard about. It was good, but not great and in a few places, even a bit "cheesy". Then, BAAM!
The last 40% of the book was just one BOOM after another.
What did I like about this book?
1 -- The story itself. Slammed is a phrase used for a poetry reading that is so raw it has to be acted out. I can't even describe it. At times it is so revealing by the participants, that even...more

Slammed is a book that has been making waves on GoodReads – big waves, popular waves, amazing waves! Rocky start, I kid you not. But there were a couple of genuine moments in this one that have me considering it even after I’d set it down. This is so even with the hokey poetry here and there, but as quotes, poetry is the point. So, I let that part of it slide. And I’m not ashamed to have skimmed through some of the more meh- ones, but there’s one or two on in this one that I actually bought into (the last especially.)

Such an amazing book; I couldn't put it down once I started reading it! There's a lot of sadness in the lives of Lake and Will, a lot of terrible things happen to them but somehow they always try to make the best of it. I highly recommend reading this story. It makes you think about life, death, love, friendship and many other things in life and it will leave an unforgettable impression once you've finished reading it.
