This book is the second in a series and will contain spoilers for the first book in the series, The Bad Apple.

I really liked the first book in this series, and read it pretty quickly. Being introduced to Seamus, the main character of this series, and the entire world of Troublemakers was a unique reading experience. But some of the magic and humor from the first book seems to have dissipated in the second installment of the Merits of Mischief series. Things took on a more serious and somber ton...more

My 8 year old would probably rate this higher if I go off of the amount of begging to "keep reading" even when his eyes were barely open! I liked the book, just not as much as the first one. There were aspects that felt a bit disjointed and harder to follow. The introduction of a second troublemaking school leaves us with the perfect set up for book 3, which kids will be thrilled about!
I have to say that I liked the first book better than the second. The second book didn't spend enough time at the enchanting troublemaker's academy. There weren't as many laughs as the first book. With that said, it was still enjoyable, but definitely not as much as the first one. It does, however, leave the reader wanting more.
I got halfway through this second installment in the Merits of Mischief series and decided I just didn't like this one as much. This book didn't grab me like the first and it isn't as funny. I still think it is a neat concept for a tween series and one that I hope finds lots of readers in my library.
After winning this from Goodreads, my kids were inspired to read the first book of the series. Now that they've read this one too, I can tell you they thought it was really funny and at some points my daughter was laughing out loud!
I read this to see if it was a story my children would like to read. I was not impressed. I will not be reading any other books that come out in this series.
The exposition is too long and unfocused.
