This book has a novella, Only Us, about pet groomer Carina Fiore and Fool’s Gold veterinarian Cameron McKenzie and a full length story, The Sheik and the Christmas Bride about Prince As’ad of El Deharia and teacher Kayleen James. Both these stories were very good and take place in the weeks leading up to the Christmas holiday.
In Only Us, Carina “Rina” Fiore is in love with Dr Cameron McKenzie and his daughter. In addition to being the groomer at the veterinary clinic, Rina doubles as a care g...more
I'm pretty tough on this one, honestly this author is better than the material I read. It wasn't horribly written but the first story should have been removed it was an elaborate plot outline, no meat. The second story was better, but frankly the whole I'm a prince and what I say goes was boarderline insulting. Nope not my kind of tale, but I finished both but like empty calories it didn't even satisfy that long.

1. Love going back to Fool's Gold. Can't go wrong with that little town and it's inhabitants.
2. Fun little story - a little more character development would make it a better read for me, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. We got to learn about the one son and the Aunt, Now what about the King and the other 5 sons?

Two interesting Christmas stories. The first involves a pet groomer who really, really likes the vet where she works. He's her boss so she doesn't want to jeopardize their friendship or her job. But of course, the vet's young daughter has other ideas and, of course, it's Christmas time so there's always mistletoe. The reader also learns about pet adoptions and matching up pets with their owners. The second story is interesting in setting, premise and lifestyle. The culmination point is Christmas...more

This was a very cute novella by Susan Mallery. It is part of the Fool's Gold series and was a fun read!
Not the most spectacular romance, I think I'll stick to Nora Roberts or R.L. Matheson
Ok so I thought this book was tied in with the fools gold books by this author well it's not really. The first 77 pages are quick Catch up the happiness in fools gold. Then the rest of the book is about a prince who seems to avoid trying to find his princess till one day four girls are dropped into his world and he fights tooth and nail against the change. I love both stories but I think the stories very well could and should have been separated if you love Susan's books you will not be disappoi...more
Only us - I give three stars. It was a very short story. It was very similar to the other stories. I felt like she could have expanded on the story more. It sort of wrapped up quickly which I guess most of her books do, but this was in a much shorter time frame.

The Sheik and the Christmas Bride - I absolutely love this story. I gave the review 5 stars because of this story. I love the idea of a girl who expects nothing from life and no one to suddenly find herself living richly and finding wher...more

This 1/2 novella-1/2 novel made me as happy as fuzzy kittens and ooey gooey bacon cheeseburgers (on my non-vegetarian days that is) do! I picked it up for free courtesy my cities library “book mobile” because I loved the cover. I loved the cover and was looking for something short, sweet, and sexxy, but in a romantic VS erotic sorta way. “A Christmas Bride” did not disappoint.

I’ll be brief and review the novella story 1st. “Only Us” as with most novellas does not have enough time to fully develo...more

This was my first disappointment in the Fool's Gold series - the short, "Only Us" was just too short to develop a romance between the two leads. You get to like Carina, the groomer, who's carrying a torch for Cameron, the vet. Sadly, he's almost unlikeable with his whole "I won't even date anyone since my wife left me when our daughter was two weeks old, years and years ago, because we might be abandoned again" except for that he's totally let Carina into his and his daughter's life. She's his b...more

This book was two stories in one. Short novella--ONLY US, and regular length category--THE SHEIK AND THE CHRISTMAS BRIDE.

ONLY US, as I feel with most shorts, lacked the depth needed to pull off the story. I wished this had been full length. Pet groomer Carina Fiore wants to confess her feelings for her veterinarian boss Cameron McKenzie. She's loved him and his son for years, and with the spirit of Christmas miracles, she finally gets the courage. Cameron's reaction and the love story itself fel...more
This book is a two-fer: the Fool's Gold novella, Only Us, and the full length novel, The Sheik and the Christmas Bride.

Only Us is about pet groomer Carina Fiore and veterinarian Cameron McKenzie. Rina has loved Cam since she first saw him, but he will not risk his heart after his wife left him and their baby girl Kaitlyn shortly after her birth. Rina takes care of both Cam and Kaitlyn on a daily basis, but Cam doesn't seem to get that Rina loves him.

The Sheik and the Christmas Bride tells the st...more

Two short stories. Only Us: Fool's Gold Holiday. Carina Fiore works as a pet groomer for the town vet Cameron McKenzie. She not only works with him in his practice, she cares for his young daughter on the side - providing her meals, dressing and feeding her, seeing that she gets to school. She's sort of a mother. Cameron and his daughter had been abandoned by his ex-wife so Cam has no interest in love or relationships, he worked hard to build his vet practice and that is where his focus is, on t...more
I liked the two stories that Susan Mallery presented in "A Christmas Bride". I have been reading the various books that she has written on Fool's Gold, California. It is always interesting to read how the couples met and how they worked out their problems to end up with each other. Susan has a common theme going where the guy is pretty dense to realize how good he has it, until something drastic happens and the girl leaves.

That is how it was with the 2nd story about the prince. I liked the dif...more
When Prince As'ad of El Deharia agrees to adopt three orphaned American girls, he does so on one condition--that their beautiful teacher, Kayleen James, become their nanny. His plan is to leave her to deal with the children as he continues his life, undisturbed. But all that changes when Kayleen and the girls invade the palace--and As'ad's heart--and change it for the better.
Kaylee was abandoned by her mom, then by her grandmother. She has made a life for herself by teaching other orphaned child...more
In December I have a marathon of Christmas books. A friend of mine had gifted me a few of Susan Mallery's books, so I started gathering the others in the series, so I could read them order. However, I couldn't help but pick up the Christmas books and read them now.

These are great contemporary romance books and I highly recommend them. Light hearted and fun to read. Good characters and landscape. I can picture these characters living their lives in the town created by Ms. Mallery.

I loved the dif...more

I was surprised to find that this book contained two stories- both are fine, but are very short. I didn't get to know the characters very well. One minute Cameron isn't in love with Rina and the next, he's visiting every person that's interested in adopting a pet because he does not want her to go. Same with As'ad and Kayleen- the story is longer than the first, and is interesting since it started out somewhere unknown, and I've been flipping pages about how in love she is and her mother showed...more

Absolutely loved Only Us, although I thought it was way way to short a story. I really wished it would have gone further than it did. But it was still a very heart warming story.

I have to say at first I wasn't sure about The Sheik and the Christmas Bride, but once I got a few chapters into it I was more intrigued. At first Kayleen wasn't one of my favorite characters, she was a little I don't know how I want to put it wimpy at first but she grew and that made me really like her more and more wit...more
This was two stories, Only Us and The Sheik and the Christmas Bride.

I love the Fool's Gold books, so the only problems with Only US was it was too short and the editing was terrible. Sections were not separated, so time and places changed without any warning just between paragraphs.

The Sheik story was something else. this would have been a terrific story if it had not involved romanticizing a sheik. Sheiks are Muslims and Islamists and have no tolerance for other religious beliefs and are mos...more
I love all fools gold books. You know it is a happy ending but it is a good read. I love that all the books are tied together and you get updates on the previous stories.
This book contains 2 stories:
• "Only Us: A Fool’s Gold Holiday" is about a pet groomer Carina Fiore who is drawn to her boss, veterinarian Cameron McKenzie, but there’s a few complications including the fact that he’s her boss.
• "The Sheik and the Christmas Bride" is a bit more complex in the fact that an Arab prince is talked into agreeing to adopt three orphaned American girls, with the condition that their beautiful teacher, Kayleen James, become their nanny. His plan is to leave her to dea...more

My review is listed under Only Us. Didn't realize that there was an alternate version, and the one I read included the Sheik story. Oopsy. Anyway, review stands. 2.5 stars and the Fool's Gold story was decent, but it was too short and wasn't meant to be a standalone (I don't think anyone who has read the series should say it could; I know I didn't feel that way, and I've read many of them, at least up until this book!) The other story was longer and had more time to develop the characters. But I...more
Only read the Fools Gold story. Wasn't interested in the other story. Love this series.
Only first part was about Fool's Gold, and renamed from a previous title.
Loved this Fool's Gold Holiday novella/short story that includes Susan Mallery's characters pet groomer Carina, Vet Cameron McKenzie and his daughter Kaitlyn. Would have given the novella four stars. I bought this book primarily to read the Fool's Gold story.

"The Sheik and the Christmas Bride" is a well written classic female virgin in a difficult situation conquers an experienced man's heart to live happily everafter after meeting several challenges. If this story was a stand alone book, I woul...more
Mostly because of the second book, my heart was bubbling over, it was so romantic!!

I felt emotionally disconnected with the first story, mostly because this was my first book by Susan Mallery (so I never read anything about her Fool's Gold series) and the whole story just felt rushed. But the second story, man did Mallery capture my heart and held it fast.

I got lost in As'ad and Kayleen's world and it was amazing. So romantic with a cultural twist (El Deharia sounds so picturesque!), I LOVED it....more

Loved the first story about the pet groomer and the vet - was really disappointed when it finished so quickly. I have read other grace reviews and understand that there are more books about the town of Fool's Gold. I intend to read more stories about the town.
The novel about the sheik I enjoyed and I am sure that I had read it before as a stand alone book. I liked it because it was a great form of escapism into a magical world that most people never get to experience.
I felt like the first story was not long enough. It was a bit of a disappointment after all the other fools gold stories that have been so good. Ithe story was not long enough to let me get to know Cameron or Rina. I wanted to know their pasts and their personalities better, though I must admit that the conclusion was very cute. The second story in the book was up to Susan mallery's usual high standards.
This is one of the worst book of the Fool's Gold series, I have ever read. Susan Mallery seemed just to be in rush to write something for Cameron and Rina. out of nowhere two characters kissed each other and they found the love. it was ridiculous and undeveloped. I could feel that the author just tried to write something just because these are the last two characters of the Fool's Gold series.
