My husband and I have gotten hooked on this reality show. Who'da thunk it? But one of the things that impressed me from the first time I watched it is that they pray together as a family at the end of every show. I downloaded a 'sample' of the book on my Kindle. Started reading it one morning on the way to work (I ride the bus) and was again impressed that every chapter began with a scripture. I love that they don't take themselves very serious but they do take their Lord very serious and give H...more
This is another one of those "if you like the TV show, then you will enjoy this book." The book reveals more interesting things about the Robinson family that you don't get from the show. It was a fun read. Willie and Korie go back and forth with the writing, but what I enjoyed most is their strong faith in God, and respect in the family. Some good solid advice is also included in this book. I could care less about the recipes that were added at the end of each chapter, but it did add a uniquene...more

So – you found me out. One of the only ‘reality’ shows that I will watch, and we watch it voraciously, is Duck Dynasty - following the Robertson family, owners of the Duck Commander franchise. I expect that I am not alone: there is something very sweet and honest about their family, even when they bring the crazy out to celebrate.
Like any who have watched the show, there are frequent references made to the “before”, before the business tur...more

Ok, I know I'm more than a little obsessed with the show.
Seeing how they are on the show, and even though I know they all have degrees, they come across as a bit redneck. Heck they even brag about it.
I wanted to give this a try just to see how it was, and for once to read a book for no other reason other than I wanted to for me.
They really are a loving family. They really love the outdoors.
It wasn't always happy or easy.
I thought Willie would be a HORRIBLE narrator. I was pleasantly surprise...more

I am a huge fan of Duck Dynasty. What you see on the TV show is real. The Robertson family does not "put on" for anyone and that clearly comes through in this book. It was a good book that flowed extremely well. Kudos to the writer! This family struggled for many years trying to build their company. There are so many things in the book that needed to be said. Example: I learned much about Korie's successful family and how they worked with the Robertsons to achieve a goal that Willie was sure was...more
I think most of the reviews before me said it best - this is a book for people who like the show, and the people on the show. It's built of anecdotes from Willie Robertson's life, including some of Phil and Kay's history. In the beginning his wife, Korie, gets a few chapters, then she just interjects in Willie's chapters as the book progresses. Overall, it is a light-hearted read that strives in every way to show everything in the best possible light. I'm sure a lot of drama got glossed over in...more
If you love the Robertsons and all their unique personalities, you will enjoy this book. It's a great read for any DD fans wanting to know more about what it was like growing up with Phil Robertson as your dad. I enjoyed this book and devoured it quickly. I know it was written by Willie and Korie, so most of the focus is on them which is fine. But for me personally, Jase is my favorite Robertson and I would have liked to learn a little bit more about him than was included. Also there isn't much...more
Okay, so it is not most thrilling prose in the world, and I read the entire book in just a tad under 4 hours, but I have to admit I enjoyed every minute of it. I know these folks, intimately, oh not the actual people in the Robertson family as shown on Duck Dynasty, but my husband's parents, his sisters, his brother, his aunts, uncles and the whole passel of "twice related on your mama's side" relatives that come along with them.

As a Duck Dynasty fan, I lept at the chance to learn more about the family. The book is both humorous and brutally honest: We learn, for example, that patriarch Phil drank so much during the early years of his marriage to Miss Kay, that he actually left the family to fend for themselves for a brief period of time.
Willie and his wife Korie take turns telling the story. I don't know if it was my Kindle edition, or a poor layout job, but at times it was difficult to tell who was doing the talking....more

I was not sure what to expect when I started to read this book. Autobiographies are a hit or miss and I wanted this book to be really good! It was not good, it was great! The book was well-written and perfectly organized by different stages in the history of the Robertson family. You will learn so much about the family. They don't leave any rocks unturned either. You learn that they don't see themselves as celebrities, but as ordinary people like you and I. You will also see so much of yourself...more
I really enjoyed this book! It had all the aspects of a well made family which included faith, hope, friendship, love and of course Ducks! I loved how you heard both Willie and Korie's side of the stories told.
I love how they talked about each of their families and each other! I guess I got the inside scoop, what's behind the facepaint and beard in other words.
I learned more about Willies brother Alan whose not featured in the show, maybe he'll make an appearance soon! I also loved learning ab...more

As I said in a previous post: I am a huge fan of Duck Dynasty. I love the family and when I saw that Phil’s book wasn’t the only one out there I knew I had to purchase the rest of them. I preordered the others, so you’ll see a lot of Duck Dynasty on this site for a little bit! Ha!
It took a little while to get used to the flow. When you’re reading it on the Kindle or Kindle app (I used my iPhone for this read), you will see that both Willie and Korie are addressing the reader. I actually hadn’t r...more

I LOVED this book but would not qualify it as "amazing." So I'm not sure if the 5 star rating is correct or not.
If you look at "my books" you'll find few biographies and little non-fiction. That just doesn't usually appeal to me, because the writing tends to lean toward a technical report rather than weaving a story. This, on the other hand, is like sitting on the front porch sipping iced tea chatting with friends about what they've been up to since you last saw them. That is a style I can compl...more

I confess that I have not seen their show. But I've certainly heard of it! I think everybody and their brother has. I've been curious about it, so I figured maybe a look into their family life might be interesting. I was right! It begins from both Willie and Korie's childhood and continues until present day. The Robertson family has certainly had it's fair share of ups and downs. I really enjoyed hearing about their adventurous beginnings. Because adventurous they were!

It was okay. I learned some but not as much as I hoped. It seemed to really skim the surface rather than dig deeper. Hope Phil's book adds more. Fans will like it. (could have been a bit better edited. Korie discloses that her family once owned Howard books... so that explains a bit). Each chapter included a recipe, which was unique. Willie tells most of the story but Korie interjects some.

Having become a recent fan of the TV show Duck Dynasty I was interested in reading more about the family. And this book did not disappoint! I really enjoyed the prose, it was written exactly as Korie and Willie talk on the show, I feel Mark did a great job by not over editing.
My biggest surprise is that Willie cooks! I'm not sure if this has been shown on earlier episodes on the show but I would have never pictured him in the kitchen.

The Duck Commander Family gives readers insight into the personal lives and background story of the Robertson family, as well as the Howard family (Korie's side). If you've ever wondered what life was like before Duck Dynasty, before the Duck Commander duck call, this book will tell you. If you've ever wondered how Willie got started in the business, read this book. If you ever wondered what it was like growing up a child of Phil and Miss Kay's, here you'll get your answers. I really enjoyed this book bc I'm such a huge fan of the show. This book answered a lot of questions I had wondered about, and was told in the same easy free speaking way that the characters narrate between segments in the show. It had some very surprisings insights that I would have never guessed, and a few that even disappointed me in my television family heroes. The awesome part is how they overcame adversity & extreme poverty with a lot of faith in God, commitment to their family and the...more
Want to learn what’s behind the beards and road kill dinners? Then, this is the book. It’s an honest portrayal of Willie and Korie’s part behind Duck Dynasty – written in their own voice. That’s right, how Willie talks on TV is carried over to this book.
Is this a stellar literary account of the Robertson clan? No, it’s not. But, would we want to read it if it was?
What I like most about this book is the honesty and humbleness of Willie and Korie. It’s all laid out, the good and the bad. It’s not...more

Reading about the DUCK DYNASTY family is just as fascinating as watching their show on A&E. The Robertson family is really very interesting and fascinating. They are funny. The most impressive information I learned through reading Willie's book is the fact that all the boys have college degrees, including the dad, Phil! They're rednecks for sure, but they're highly educated rednecks who love the Lord! What's not to like about them???

The book “The Duck Commander Family” is written by Willie and Korie Robertson about life before their fame. Willie talks about how tough life was for them and how poorly they were treated, yet Korie, his wife, found life easier because she is family oriented.Though Korie was shocked by the gruesome ways they lived by. For example, eating roadkill and hunting animals.

My kids and I enjoy watching Duck Dynasty on A&E. Especially my 13-year-old son. So, when I saw this book sitting on the shelf of my local Barnes & Noble... I just had to buy it!

True Duck Dynasty fans will appreciate learning more about the Robertson family, as disclosed by Willie and Korie. I'm a casual bystander of the show. I love the family's wit and am surprised I watch it at all. I thought the book might help me better understand who they are. However, the narrative bounced around and many details were lost in the process. It was interesting to see what they chose to share about, in terms of the family history and other family members themselves. I found myself wo...more

Good rags to riches, perseverance, over coming lack of guidance in childhood story. Enjoyable to know the "back story" of such a hilariously wholesome tv show. The book does a good job of balancing strong faith, and family values without preaching. A few chapters regarding the boys upbringing were concerning. As a very young teen mom, I believe Kay did the best she was capable of and knew how. The several stories regarding Phil's parenting techniques and man/husband, did make me lose a bit of re...more
I really enjoyed this book. I have read biographies in the past which resulted in my not liking the subject as much as I did before I read about them. The opposite was true with this book. I really like the Robertson family. Their show is silly and contrived, but there is some truth in the way they portray themselves as well. I could hear Willie's voice as I read the book. It is an American rags to riches story and it saddens me that our government is making this kind of story rarer. However, Go...more
