Fans of the Taker series by Alma Katsu (The Taker, The Reckoning) she has a number of digital short stories/e-novellas available on Amazon, Barnes&Noble and iTunes! Yay! The Marriage Price is a glimpse at Jonathan's life just before his marriage to fourteen-year-old Evangeline. We'd met her before in The Taker and had seen her referenced in The Reckoning, but this is the first time we see things from her perspective, however briefly. It's hard not to s...more

I enjoy Alma's writing so much. She is a very talented writer. Because of the writing alone, I gave this short story three stars, otherwise it'd probably be only two. I don't normally read short stories and I read this one because it's by Ms. Katsu and it's about characters from The Taker trilogy. I was a little disappointed by the shortness of the story and the abruptness with which it ended. It had a lot of potential, as it's certainly interesting to read about St. Andrew, life with Jonathan a...more

The Marriage Price by Alma Katsu is another short story from The Taker series and it reunites readers with Jonathan’s hometown just before he marries child-like Evangeline. Told from Evangeline’s point of view, readers will get a taste of her less than innocent side as she talks of the finery and the house that will be hers once she is married to Jonathan. There’s is clearly not a love match in more ways than one as Jonathan’s family chose her for him, and she clearly has ulterior motives of her...more

Another short story by Alma Katsu which is part of The Taker series. Is it worth reading? Although I do enjoy the authors writing, I was somewhat indifferent to this story about pre marriage life with Jonathan in St Andrew from Evangeline's point of view. After having read The Taker and The Reckoning, I believe that Jonathan's character is a bit predictable and uninteresting. I never liked him to begin with so I appreciated Katsu's writing of Evangeline'd view being presented in an interesting w...more

A look into an unexpected character, but it didn't really provide a light on anything unknown. It's not particularly surprising that Jonathan would have anticipated his marriage rights, nor that Evangeline would submit and later find out he was fairly free with his attentions. But it did provide a bit more fleshing out of a character who'd previously served as little more than window dressing to Jonathan's story.

Interesting POV mini story...I wish there was more, like say, fast forward 3 years to when Lanny comes back and Evangeline has had a baby...and what happens afterward. What an interesting tale that would make with some of the secondary characters! :-)

Just a tiny, little short story...from the point of view of a character we don't really hear from in the novels (The Taker, and the second in the trilogy, The Reckoning), which is kind of nice. Worth the .99 cents to read.
Sarah
Well that was short. And sad.

I forgot I had downloaded this to my Kindle app on my phone, so when I saw it I figured it was worth a read. (Even more so since I'm planning on starting The Reckoning tonight!)
Lori
I don't know what the heck this was about. It wasn't even the size of a decent chapter! Why bother at all? What I read was good...but seriously...it was like 10 pages if that!

I might read the series that this comes with...I didn't like this story at all. There wasn't really a plot and the characters where boring.
Meg
A great short story for The Taker Trilogy. Very brief, but a telling view into Evangeline and Jonathan's engagement.
Alyssa Greatbanks
A nice little story to add a bit more perspective onto 'The Taker'. And a little more background on the characters.
Folliesgirl14
An interesting bit of backstory. Now I'm even more excited for book 3!
Nidia
A very short story and good to read if you are reading The Taker trilogy.
Jodez
Short and sweet. Not my normal cup of tea but still enjoyable.

Very short stories but too short to make it good. It's more like an extract than a short story. I might consider reading The Taker series after this as the book is quite well written.

I will soak up any little bits of this story that I can!

I'm the author of THE TAKER and THE RECKONING (Gallery Books/Simon & Schuster), the first two novels in a trilogy about desire, obsession and the dark things we sometimes do for love. The Taker, which has been widely compared to the ealy work of Anne Rice, was selected by ALA/Booklist as one of the top ten debut novels of 2011 and translation rights have been sold in 14 languages. The third bo...more
