I can't claim to have read every page of this book, but that doesn't mean it isn't a real gem. I'm so glad that the Missouri Historical Society decided to bring this 1941 WPA work back into print. Originally meant as a travel and cultural guide to the state, it now reads like a magical book about a time when my fair city (St. Louis) was still the 8th largest in the US and bus fare in Kansas City was only 10 cents. Great chapters on the arts, folklore, industry, and labor.
