In this volume, he asserts that "talent is never enough." If it were, "then the most effective and influential people would always be the most talented ones but that is often not the case...Clearly talent isn't everything." That said, he hastens to add, talent is worthy off our admiration and must be perceived in the proper perspective. For Maxwell, it is "a God-given gift." For others who do not share his faith, it is nonetheless usually referred to as a "natu More...

Inspirational guide to maximizing your talent

The professional sports world is filled with athletes who have extraordinary talent and yet end up with mediocre careers. Of course, every field has people who have failed to achieve their individual talent potential. Why? Talent alone is not remarkable. In fact, it is commonplace. What is special is “talent plus,” the term leadership author John C. Maxwell uses to describe the achievement level of people who maximize their talents. Maxwel More...

As a college professor (and talented individual) I must say this is a very powerful, transformative book. It contains interesting stories that contextualize the overall theme and message which John C. Maxwell makes very clear: Talent is NEVER enough - especially in the absence discipline, character, integrity, and perhaps most importantly, the 13 key choices that must be taken to maximize it. It also contains invaluable and introspective exercises that are designed to assist you in developing a More...

I read this book very quickly.

Just so you know, I don't think that I have a ton of talent. Some say it, but I don't want to believe it because I don't want to be prideful.

Regardless of having talent, this book should be a must for anyone desiring to develop their skillset better. It was a huge motivation for me to read.

Maxwell's books are usually pretty good and this one had a ton of great quotes that I will concentrate on for years to come.

I really liked it!

I enjoyed this somewhat longer offering by Mr. Maxwell. I enjoy his simple and effective writing style. It's good to have a bit more of his teachings thrown into one piece at a time here. This is a good, relatively high-level look at a very important part of living life. Enhance your tools, there's so much more that lingers inside. Bring it alive! If you've not read Maxwell before, this is a good start.

This does what "Talent is Overrated" and "Outliers" fails to do, it gives you concrete steps on how to be a talent plus person. Talent is as common as table salt, but a talent plus person is rare. This book is filled with advice on how to be a talent plus person. I enjoyed it and will read it again!

I think I can reduce the thesis of this book to the following: "Talent can get you in the door, but it takes a lot sweat and tears to make it to the top."

This is a pretty recent book, having been published in 2007. As such, it has more contemporary references than many of the other Maxwell books I have read.

I felt less of the self-promotion in this book, but it was still present. If humility is something Mr. Maxwell was blessed with, it doesn't come across well More...

This is a very good book! Inspiring... For some people, we believe that talent is enough. But this book says different. Indeed talent is important, but you'll need more than talent to succeed in the real world. And this book will tell you how. great book!

I always find it invigorating to read 'business motivation' books like these, but only in small doses. I OD'd on them once a few years ago and had to be detoxed through a steady diet of classic novels and People magazines.

this is an ok book if your in to his type of writing. i don't highly recommend it only because it seems to be more about things which you should commonly already know about success in life. but of course that is my opinion.

don't let my three star rating fool you. I think this is a pretty solid book but like a teacher on a bell curve I have to be stingy with my rating system. one thing i have learned by reading this book is that talented people are often time their own worst enemy.. it made me sit back and evaluate my ways and what i considered to be my personal talents. the line for the book that hit me most was this: "when it comes to believing in themselves people are simply agnostic!" yeah chew on tha More...

This was a very informative book. It was easy to read and yet it had a lot of great ideas. It's a great book to use as a reference guide. It's not one that I would sit down and read for fun but more as a way to gain knowledge and some new insight on management and working with others.

Very good book; biblical principles. Simple instructions, but effective when put to work - which is the complicated part. Many, many references to other books opens up the gateway to these other valuable resources.

I'm still reading this book and it's great especially for those people who rely on their talents, but have a problem marketing and initiating those talents to maximize their potential.

Well, I MOSTLY read it. I think if you read the first few chapters, you'll get the gist of it. Good info, but he takes 10 chapters to write what could be a great article.
