There's good information in this, lots of it, but I found the approach-- a series of profiles of individual directors-- less helpful than I would have liked. There's very little in the way of historical context for the fils, or about what unites the Chinese new wave. They also combine directors from the mainland with those from Taiwan and Hong Kong, which only muddies the connections between the Fifth Generation filmmakers.
