I want to write this review while it is fresh in my mind. James Patterson has enough money. Stop having other people write books and putting your name on them. This last one is a piece of drivel that I can't believe I read to the end. I wanted to see how extreme it got. At the end, you could see another series of books coming with the new partners. Don't waste your money (mine came from the library) or your time.

3.5 stars

Note to self: The blurb is enough to act as reminder about the whole story.

Technicality: 1st person POV for Zach, but 3rd person POV for the others.

Thoughts:
First, I find it interesting that the main narrator's partner used to be his ex-girlfriend in the academy but she is now happily married with someone else. Zach (the MC) admits that he is still in love with his now-partner, Kylie, but at the same time, he is decent enough not to do anything about it. In fact, he seems to want to pur...more

A quick read...Typical James Paterson ....Good but not his best.

This is my first James Patterson novel, and as a devouring reader of non-fiction and literary classics, I guess it looks like I'm next going to say I didn't like the breezy, simple pace of a thriller with many elements of other books in its genre: the buddy cop team (spiced up by the pairing of two detectives with a former romantic entanglement) working in a high-powered elite police unit, working feverishly to track down a deranged serial killer before he strikes again with even more devastatin...more

James Patterson is at the top of his game with NYPD Red, a smart police thriller that had my pulse racing and my fingers churning through the pages until I reached the end. I honestly felt as if I were watching a movie unfold before my eyes, as the writing is so vivid! The plot is quick-paced and intriguing, with an antagonist, The Chameleon, who is perfectly psychotic and creepy, providing a fantastic chase of cat-and-mouse as Zach and Kylie race to stop him. I find that some books are so detai...more

NYPD Red: James Patterson

Creating a murder while on the set of a movie production took planning, intelligence and definitely quite a lot of skill. Orchestrating the murder of a famous Hollywood producer right in front of the diners in an upscale restaurant even more cunning. Enter the city of New York and meet the stars of this show not your everyday actors you see on the widescreen, the net or even on your I Pad but the real life stars that hit the streets, go behind the scenes and protect the...more

This was the face James Patterson book that I have read in some time that I have truly enjoyed. NYPD Red is an elite police force in the Big Apple dedicated to working on high publicity cases involving celebrities. New York City is gearing up for a week of high intensity events to celebrate the entertainment industry in an attempt to encourage Hollywood to make better use of the city as a filming location. Unfortunately, the Chameleon has something very different in mind.

The various events and a...more

Typical Patterson: Un-put-downable

Hollywood is making a big splash in NYC, and the mayor is happy about the added revenue for the Big Apple. This revenue is put into jeopardy when various Hollywood celebreties begin dying. The first is thought to be a heart attack, but soon autopsy results show poison as COD. The second is during a filming where a female actor shoots & kills her actor husband in the scene only the blanks turn out to be real bullets & the second homicide. The third is an eccentric actor who is literally s...more

NYPD RED

Mr. Patterson has written a fantastic book. This book is going to be extremely hard to put down once you start reading it.

It is Hollywood week where the Mayor along with lots of other dignitaries and the NYPD Red force are on special alert. The main reason is to attract the directors and producers to film more movies in the Big Apple.

We are introduced to Zach Jordan who has been with the NYPD force for several years and now is going to partner with Kylie MacDonald, who also is his ex gir...more

I am a big fan of James Patterson books and when I received NYPD Red I could not wait to start reading.

NYPD Red is about a serial killer fixated on killing as many people connected with films and film making as possible.

The Chameleon is a struggling actor who has and hundreds of parts as an extra in films but has never hit the big time and has now written his own script. He starts to make his own film without a camera and starts his murdering spr...more

As usual, anything w/James Patterson's name on it is absolutely amazing!!! This has so many twists/turns (as he is noted for) that it keeps a person wondering what is going to happen next; love the relationship status between the two detectives. They used to have a thing going between them before she married a highly successful guy whom writes screen plays for Hollywood, she then gets assigned as his partner and they are together daily trying to catch the bad guy, and he doesn't know how that is...more

As I've prefaced just about every Patterson book review in the past year or so, I always start a new one with a bit of trepidation since way too many seem hastily written and thrown together just to get them in print. But since this latest one has a new (at least to me) co-author, Marshall Karp, I was hoping for bigger and better writing.

And in general, it didn't disappoint. The plot is interesting as Detective Zach Jordan and his new partner (and former love interest) try to stop a mass murdere...more

I always enjoy a James Patterson read, pretty much no matter who he is co-authoring with. The chapters are short and the dialogue always flows well. There was one glitch in research with using a gun manufactured in the not too distant past on a scene set in the 1940's because they needed a 'period' piece. Other than that, the plot was pretty good. It tells the tale of an elite group of police officers, NYPD Red, who are charged with protecting and serving the rich and famous. Couple that with a...more

New York's mayor has a once a year thing going called Hollywood On The Hudson
where he brings all of the big wheels from Hollywood to NY trying to get more
movies produced there. He also has a unit called NYPD Red and their job is to
protect all of NY's wealthiest citizens, also the ones who visit from out of
state, like Hollywood. On the first day of the festival a world famous
producer is poisoned. Then an actor is killed on the set, next a molotov cocktail
explodes at a movie premier. Detective...more

What can I say? Another great James Patterson book. This one involves the elite 75-member force of the NYPD, called the NYPD Red, that has as its purpose the protection of and prevention of crime upon the top members of society. In this book, New York's mayor is hosting the Hollywood on the Hudson festival -- an attempt to show film and TV producers that Los Angeles is not the only place where big films and TV programs can be made. The big hoopla has just gotten underway when a leading producer...more

I was really disappointed with this one. There are so many fantastic crime authors around now, authors that treat their readers like intelligent people, & James Patterson used to be one of them. But this book was pure laziness really.

The writing itself was so simplified & terribly cliched at times that I actually caught myself rolling my eyes. And the fact that the villain was revealed right from the start took any mystery or suspense out of it.

I hate being spoon fed a book & that'...more

You know how sometimes, you're working on eating healthily and exercising and taking care of yourself, but then there's that ONE day when you just NEED to eat a bag of chips, a tub of ice cream, and half a large pizza? No? Just me?

Anyway.

Reading James Patterson is kind of like that. Most of the time I read books that I would deem well-written and well-structured. The characters are fleshed out and the story is engaging. And then every couple of months, I need to binge on a James Patterson book b...more

Honestly I was torn about this book at the beginning. I loved the opening scene with the Chameleon. In fact, I pretty much loved every part of the book that involved that character. I think he was the perfect antagonist for the book and I can only the ones that are to follow will be able to live up to that.

That being said, at first, I didn't like Zack Jordan. I found him to be dull and the trivial blah, blah, blah about a happily married Kylie bored me to tears. He grew on me as the book progres...more

NYPD Red is crime fiction for readers who love fast-paced action and are not fond of brutal minutely described homicides.

The story begins on the day Zach gets a new partner. His previous one is off work injured. Zach’s feelings about his new partner are mixed to say the least. Just finished my first JP book. I was entranced, from start to end. This was a very riveting book, so unlike anything i have every read. The way it was told was so refreshing and captivating.

I found myself, for the first time ever, not disgusted and withdrawn from the villain's POV, but engaged and intrigued. The hero and heroine were brilliant. And even though we got the see the story from the hero's POV he took more of the back seat to his female partner when it came to saving the day, as it w...more

I love Patterson's thrillers that take place in New York, maybe because I grew up in that area. NYPD Red is an elite team of New York cops who are tasked with protecting the rich and famous. Another interesting outing with one of the most prolific writers that I know of. It's kind of unbelievable how many books he puts out, but I keep trying to keep up because I like his style of fast paced action, taunt, sometimes terse chapters and characters that sometimes he fleshes out slowly and sometimes he leaves you wondering.
This seems like a set up book for a new series of novels, in the mode of his others, like The Women's Murder Club, Alex Cross, etc.... and it's just as an interesting...more
