With James Agee, Jr.'s second work of fiction, Mask City, he presents a world where two siblings, Thomas and Lacy Farthur, are thrust out of their seemingly harmless world into a society they formerly didn't know existed: an underground domain where the common adage, "A person is not a person without a mask," is exploited in the most dreadful manner. Thomas and Lacy, throu ...more

I was given a review copy of Mask City from the author in exchange for an honest review.

First of all, this book was very detailed and thought out. From the very first pages, I was instantly intrigued. The writing style had a nice flow to it and the story world was amazing. This book really needs some more recognition!

The book starts off telling the story of Thomas and Lacy's parents and how they came to meet/fall in love. After a couple of pages, Thomas and Lacy Farthur are introduced. The two

5 thoughts:

1. Aw man. Not much backstory- I feel like the first few chapters were rushed. I wanted to know more about the parents and the kids. I wanted to connect with them more.

2. Woah. An underground world! Very cool. I wish that there would have been more details in the underground. There were a lot of vague descriptions and it sort of jumped from one thing to the next without much explanation.

3. About 3/4 through the book- I still don't really care for the characters. Not because I don't l

This book is amazing, I originally thought it was going to be good but it blew my expectations out of the water. So much so that I stayed up until 2am because I could not put it down. I usually tend to find that there is a lot of unneeded content in a book, not in this one. I think because of the length it helped with that. Everything had a point. Even every sentence had a point. I absolutley love the way it obsorbs you into this world. In such a short novel I did not expect to really connect wi ...more

I really liked this book. I loved the suspense that was given when reading about Thomas and Lacy's journey. I really recommend anyone to read this book. This book has a little bit of everything as far as looking at picking a book per genre. This book has comedy, romance, suspense/thrill, and adventure. All in all it is a great book to just sit down and experience.

The only thing I wish it could have been was longer. :)

I was sent an ebook copy of this book in exchange of an honest review a few months ago. I wrote the review and was going to film a video for it, but after trying three times, I’ve given up. It just never turns out well, so I’m just going to post my written review.

Mask City is an interesting novel to say the least. As the blurb says, this story is about two siblings: Thomas and Lacy. The relationship between the siblings was loving and honest which I also enjoyed. They live a very sheltered life away from civilization. Honestly, at the beginning I kept asking myself what the title has to do with the story; Then the story unfolds and I was left with no clue what to expect.

After a series of events that I never saw coming, these two siblings end up in Mask

Mask City was unlike anything I've ever read before. The blurb completely sucked me in, and when I started reading, I wasn't let down. For such a short story, Mask City was jam-packed full of suspense, danger, and the desire to simply escape. Thomas and Lacy were quite a pair and they seemed to really compliment each other as siblings. The other cha

There were things about this that I really enjoyed -- the plot, the idea and social structure of the underground city -- but the whole thing felt like a rough outline for a longer novel. So much so that I'm surprised the author felt comfortable releasing it into the world like this. Everything was rushed, there was zero character building or development, there were tons of editing and grammar problems.

I would have like to see more world-building of both the 'above ground' and 'underground' world

The story seems rushed, and there's hardly any character development. We see the characters do things, but we don't understand WHY, what their motivations are or what's going on in the larger world around them. The storyline had potential, but it's not fleshed out enough.

First of all, let me say that I absolutely loved the premise of this story. The author created an entire society that was intriguing and inventive.

I would have liked to know a little more about Thomas and Lacy before they were thrust into their adventure, but overall, it was enjoyable to read.

I do not want to give away spoilers, but the ending was fantastic and well done!

I have always imagined that there is more to the average than meets the eye. In fact, the average is what interest me the most. There is a story behind everything, and the power of words can bring those stories to life. I write because these stories beg to be told. I started writing when I was about sixteen, and I just haven't stopped. Writing books is part of who I am. Books are something that I ...more
