I enjoyed book two a lot more than the first book and can't wait to see what happens next.

I don’t like spoilers, so I’m avoiding them here as much as possible, while still giving an opinion.
Ms. Shayne knows the buttons to push on a mom, that’s for sure. I still remember being pregnant, and pretty much hating it, especially at the end with the round ligament pain, and the waddling, and the inability to sleep for more than 20 minutes at a time, constant bathroom breaks, and the heartburn!… Lena has it a little easier by the sound of it… until she has to start running for her life.

Wow! It's not very often that on comes across a book that is fairly accurate when it comes to Wicca. And the reason that I only say fairly is that the element of fantasy was introduced. But it does a fantastic job of showing basic spellwork and explaining some of the rites.

I started out not really caring for this book. It was really easy to get into, but I hated the fact it did not include the others from the first book. Well at least that is what I thought. She intertwines things so meticulously it draws you in and makes you become intertwined in the minds of the characters.

I'm really loving this series. It's made me want to track down some of Maggie Shayne's other books and series. Daughter of the Spellcaster takes readers one step closer to revealing what exactly lies behind The Portal waiting to be freed.

Maggie has done it again! Daughter of the Spellcaster was a great book that follows in the footsteps of Mark of the Witch to perfection. I had the pleasure of reading this e-arc from Netgalley and it doesn't disappoint in the least. An amazing sequel that can stand on it’s own. Maggie Shayne delivers strong characters that you will not forget. I was immediately drawn to this book because I think the writing and mysteries were much more compelling than they were in the first book.

This was a good second in the portal series. But I really hate storylines where the heroine is knocked up and the hero decides he loves her and the child and wants to be a good daddy. Espeically since she got knocked up after eight weeks of dating and then took off.... That was more unrealistic then the magic.

Can't wait for November!
As a huge fan of Maggie Shayne, I was very excited to learn she had written a Trilogy about Warrior witches and the men that love them. The first installment, Mark of the Witch, was an especially well-written introduction to this series. While you could jump right in and start with Daughter of the Spellcaster, I recommend you first read Mark of the Witch. Then immediately follow it up with Blood of The Sorceress. The final book is the capstone; it ties the series up perfectly.

1. I have a fascination with History. That is not to say that I love historical romances but that I enjoy thinking how life used to be; back a few centuries. How people lived, how times have changed. The past is a very dramatic landscape. And I like stories that contain flashbacks.

This was a huge improvement over the first book in the series. Lena is a practicing witch who meets Ryan a player with a rich father. Eight weeks later Lena finds out she is pregnant and leaves knowing Ryan will think she got pregnant on purpose. Flash forward until Lena is eight months a long and she finds out that Ryan's father has died. She goes to the funeral and runs into Ryan who is quite shocked to realise he is going to be a father. Lena is a charming character and it's hard not to wish for a fairy tale ending for her and Ryan (and Selma!)

Daughter of the Spellcaster is the second book in Maggie Shayne's trilogy, The Portal. Right now I have mixed emotions about this book. While I'm fascinated with the world Ms. Shayne has created, I didn't connect with the heroine, Lena, at all. A few times I wanted to smack her upside the head and tell her to get a clue. I got so damn frustrated with her that I just wanted the book to end. I found that surprising because I loved the heroine of book one, Mark of the Witch.

This is an interesting trilogy for sure, with magic, mystery, and layers of mysticism. The relationships in the novels are sometimes secondary to the grand scheme of the plot, but they are beautiful to see unfold. I am looking forward to the final story when Lilia and her man will finally be reunited. I am in love with this series. Lena and Ryan's story was filled with misunderstanding and mistrust and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them come through to a place of love and trust. So, so good. Can't wait to read the next book in the series and see how this all ends up!
I was hooked after reading the first book and once the second book was released I knew I had to read it and I just loved it even more. I don't want to give anything away so all I can say if you have not read this series then you are missing out ;)

The Portal series is well written, has twist that hold the readers attention and interest, and keeps the reader wanting more. The first book in this series, Mark of The Witch,grabs the reader and sucks them in with new twists and a different spin than what most books on this subject have.
