Wow Just Wow!

I LOVE this author.I LOVE this book.

This is my third book by Nyrae and I have now come to the realization that if I want to sleep then I shouldn't pick up one of her books. All three have been read in one sitting.

This is the first of hers that I have read from a girls POV and it did not disappoint!

As a curvy girl myself I could totally relate to Annabell and how she was feeling. And as for Tegan....swoon doesn't even come close. He is now my No 1 Book Boyfriend, just a wonderfully w...more

To sum it up: Seventeen-year-old Annabel Conway is tired of the Hillcrest High School elite making her life miserable because she’s not a size two. This summer, she's hiring a personal trainer to help her lose weight.

Annabel doesn’t expect her trainer to be a gorgeous guy around her age. Boys like Tegan are jerks. They pretend to like girls like her so they can make an idiot out of them. Been there, done that. Totally not going there again. She kind of...more

I can't say enough good things about Measuring Up. I'm a huge fan of Nyrae Dawn's writing anyway but I think she's really tapped into something with this book.

All women (& probably men too) live with insecurities about their bodies or some aspect of their life. In Annabel's case it's her weight. Nyrae writes about her struggles with humor and honesty.

Annabele Conway has to deal with her mom's unrealistic expectations and harsh judgments, her best friend's well meaning sabotaging behavior and...more

The Cover
What is worse than faces/people on the cover? People who don’t look like the characters described in the book and are PDA-ing (yes, I’m aware that this is not a word). Good thing I have this in ebook format because I really don’t want to be seen with it in public. This is one of the cases of “Don’t judge a book by its cover” though so I’m going to forgive it because the book is so great.

I loved it!!! Teagan and Anabelle are were so sweet!! I loved the message of the book too. How much you weigh does not define the type of person you are. It does not define your worth or value. I find myself struggling with that issue. I have had trouble getting the extra weight off after I had my daughter. I felt disgusting and embarrassed to see people who knew what I looked like before. I'm still the same person. I was letting my weight define me. I still struggle, but hey as long as I'm a go...more

I really like this book because it's a light read and I also enjoyed all the characters! But what really made me to want to read this is because of the cover! Haha! The guy in the cover is a hottie, I couldn't stop myself staring. Haha! Anyway, this book is such a breather to me, after reading a roller coaster one. I'm glad I finally decided to read it, since it has been in my ebook shelf for a long time! I like the cute characters, especially Annabel Lee and Teagan. Wait, I have to admit that I...more

Okay I'm just going to bust out and say it. Nyrae Dawn is a Goddess. Every book of hers is a masterpiece. I thought nothing could be as good as Freeing Carter, but this is. A wonderful book about learning to love yourself, learning who you are, and learning to tune out all the voices telling you that you are not enough. Just an amazing book, a one sitting wonder you cannot put down.

This woman is going to be a household name, it is absurd she is not already.

loved this! I really felt for Annabel and I recognize so much..I have great parents but I was teased in school not for being overweight thou but for being to small..my best friend was unusually tall and with me unusually short and thin we where an easy target so I know Annabel's and Em's feeling all to well and Nyrae Dawn have written it just right..

and Teagen swoon I say it again swoon...

very well done

Love this book!!! I give it more than 5 stars, I didn't want it to end

I'm surprised to give this short a solid 5 star rating, but I loved it!

Full review:
This book doesn’t feel extraordinary, but it is and I loved everything about it – there’s absolutely nothing I would change. Not the length (it’s a short story), not the pace, not how any of the characters were handled (not even the confrontation with Annabel’s mom – because that scene goes to show that you can’t change people, but you can control how you react to them), and especially not the ups and downs of Te...more

Brief Summary: Annabelle has decided to finally tackle her weight issues by joining a gym and getting a personal trainer. She didn't expect her trainer to be her age, flirty, and kind of wonderful, though. As he challenges her misconceptions and, wonderfully, she challenges his, they fall for one another.

Review: I really enjoyed this one, and in fact, finished it in one sitting. The characters, the pacing, the romance, and even the themes, were all great.

I've only read one book by Nyrae Dawn and although I didn't love it, I didn't hate it either. I liked it enough to be curious about her other offerings and what else she can bring to the table.

So...I read this book, and...

...This book rocks!!

There's no other way to put it really. I absolutely LOVED it! One book, one day, loved, loved, loved...

The story was great, the characters wonderful, and the pacing just right. I loved reading this book from Annabel's POV. She was a wonderfully funn...more

Anabel is sick of the 'in' crowd at her highschool teasing her abut her weight. Her own mother is so highly critical of her that she feels she will never be able to please her. Her father is overly supportative and wants to make things easier for her. Anabel is so sick of it all that she finally decides to join a gym but goes to the otherside of town where noone will know her. Outside the gym she battles self doubts and isn't sure she can actually go in when she meets the gorgeous Tegan. Tegan i...more

I fell in love with a boy....a boy named Tegan. He's sweet, funny, cocky and oh so perfect!!

I've been a fan of Nyrae's writing for quite some time. I loved her book, What a Boy Wants. Her writing is seamless and contagious! I couldn't put this down. I literally picked it up as a book to read for a few minutes before bed, then put it down a few hours later after it was DONE!

Before I even got to the actual book, the dedication page captured my heart. Truer words were never spoken.

Annabel. I couldn't help but love Annabel. How many of us (especially woman) haven't hated something about ourselves, especially in high school. Whether it was our weight or our height. Our looks, our clothes, what we drove, where we lived, maybe even our family. Being a teenager is a tough time, esp...more

I really enjoyed the book !! I loved tegan and annabell together it was beautifully written and it made my heart melt and break at the same time! I found that the time just flew when I read it, I wish it was longer, but hey ho! you cant ask for an amazingly written story, well thought out plot and instantly loveable characters as well as a story that you never want to end all at the same time :) Favourite quote that just sounded beautfiful and read it over and over again (now it may not be word...more

I truly like this story, even though it was YA, but it had a little of everything what you go through high school. Being bullied because of your appearance, money. It is just mind boggling. No matter what hear you get older or how young you are, history repeats to others. When can we say "Enough is Enough. Loved Teagen and his Family (Dana and Tim) Annabel Mon's well that is more a Plastic Barbie Doll, never had love growing up. Her dad, was a big bear. Nice story, I applause to Ms. Dawn. thank...more

I am so happy that I came upon this book. I could not put it down. I fell in love with Annabel Lee and Tegan. The story grabs you in the start and you cannot help but read until you finish. I love Tegan's nicknames for Annabel and the banter between the two. One of my favorite quotes is when they are on their first date Annabel says, "I do a jig inside which breaks into a full on Disney movie song and dance segment, complete with talking birds and little mice friends." This quote is just anothe...more

Sometimes you just want to read a super cute love story with out, aliens, werewolves, serial killers, ex girlfriends, other guys and crazy government plots to distract you! You just want something sweet and pure and this is what this book is!
Yes there are other issues going on but it does not distract you from the super sweet relationship between Annabel and Teagan.
They are two not so perfect teens trying to make it through and find true healthy love and its sweet.

I've loved a lot of Nyrae Dawn's books, but this one is my favorite so far. Annabel is a tough character who doesn't need to throw how strong she is in your face. The characters were fun and sympathetic and real, and they had great chemistry. Every girl deserves a boyfriend like Tegan. And everyone can relate to the personal struggle between doing something because others want you to and doing it because you want to. I was hooked from the minute I picked up the book until the very last word.

This is my second book by Nyrae Dawn. I loved it, same as the first I read.

Summary:
Seventeen year old Anabel Conway has always had issues with her weight. She is hardly severely obese, but also, she isn't healthy. Kids pick on her at school and although they dont mean to, her parents constantly misunderstand and try to fix her. The only person she feels comfortable with is her best friend, Emily. Despite Emily's assurances that she's perfect the way she is, Anabel wants to join a gym and lose we...more

I'm not sure if the details of the book is correct because it felt like I've been reading a lot longer than I expected to.
Anyway, it surprised me that I really liked the book. Don't judge me but... I tend to judge books by their covers. Hehe. I think that's what they are meant for. And I really hate this book's cover. Sorry! As for the content, I liked it too. But although it's rare for me to encounter stories like this one, it really didn't leave a mark upon me. You know what I'm saying! When y...more

SPOILER ALERT

Ok so this bo0k was really, really, really, really great. I would have given it 5 stars but the author decided not to put an epilogue at the end, and well that ruined it for me. It had an ok ending. The epilogue would have probably made the ending way better. Im SOOOO MAD THERE WAS NO EPILOGUE, but I guess there's nothing i can do about it. All in all i was pretty happy with the book and thought it was pretty cute. To be honest I actually cried when he broke up with her, i guess i w

Four-borderline-five stars because everything in it is so realistic.

Annabel Conway wants to lose weight. Pronto. She does not expect her trainer to be a gorgeous guy around her age. Boys like Tegan are jerks. They pretend to like girls like her so they can make an idiot out of them. Been there, done that. It doesn’t help that he knows her measurements!

Alright guys, prepare yourself, I have a lot of emotions after this book. Had your breathers? Good. Here we go.

Nyrae Dawn has completely sent me on a whole new guilt pleasure ride. As some of you may know, I have recently been addicted to Nyrae's stories, and this one is no different.

Measuring Up is about Annabel Conway, she's your normal High School student, with a few problems of her own. Due to being bullied in school because of her weight, she feels that she needs to lose it. At this point,...more

This was a very cute read!

Watching Annabel gain confidence in herself as she loses weight and falls in love was awesome... I love to see teenage girls come into their confidence and feel good about themselves - She was mature and classy instead of the typical mean girl way. She was already a smart, funny, beautiful girl but that confidence made her that much more. It wasn't about losing the weight, it was about feeling good about herself.

Tegan was just a doll... he saw Annabel for who she was a...more

As a fellow chubby girl, I really wanted to love this story. I did. The writing was pretty clean. I liked the leading man--I just didn't like the protagonist. She bothered me for some reason. She just assumed so many things and I couldn't figure out what the lead liked about her. She wasn't very personable, she seemed kind of bumbling, she wasn't exactly that witty, and she had horrible mood swings. I didn't get the appeal. It made the story feel like someone's day dream instead of contemporary...more

I was really excited to start this book because of all the good reviews I’ve read about it. ”Measuring Up” is a well written story detailing emotions that a lot of girls go through all the while the reader get to be on a romance ride. I really felt it was refreshing to read about a character that actually has to watch what she eats. I have never been lucky enough to just eat whatever...more

This book is so cute and lovely. I'm so glad I gave it a shot.

I don't know if it's just me... but I really felt as if the characters were real. There were lots of insecurities, drama and past issues and still... this one kept me entertained with its light humor and fun convo's. I LOVE IT. Both characters were lovable. Even with their own personal issues, I sure grew to love Tegan and Annabel. Tegan is a VERY VERY VERY VERY responsible young man while Annabel is a VERY VERY VERY insecure girl. Th...more

YA romance is not my first choice when I want to read something, but I'm really glad I didn't skip this one. I absolutely loved it.

Annabel is a seventeen-year-old who's had enough of being hurt by everyone else because of her weight. Her mother seems to be embarassed by her aspect and to want a skinny daughter, her father is always trying to defend her and make her feel better, her best friend is way too much overprotective. So she makes an important decision: hire a personal trainer.

I am a compulsive reader and writer who loves YA fiction.

I love nothing more than writing about young adults. There is something so fresh and fun about it. You can pretty much always find me with a book in my hand or open document in front of me.

I live in Southern California with my husband and two children.
