THREE SCHEMES AND A SCANDAL is a fun and wildly romantic novella set in the world of Ms. Rodale's Writing Girls series. I've loved Lady Charlotte since she was first introduced. She's headstrong, mischievous, and full of trouble. But, when she does set up the schemes they are always for good reasons (at least she thinks they are). Charlotte thinks that she knows what's best for everyone and that she is the only one who can help them achieve these things. The only man who could possible be the ri...more

"Three Schemes and a Scandal" is a Writing Girls novella by Maya Rodale, a tangential break from this warm, fun series. It stars Charlotte, the sister-in-law of Writing Girl Sophie, Derek Knightley's resident Duchess.

Charlotte and James used to be best friends throughout their childhood, until age, education, vastly divergent social roles - and the unfortunate discovery of her childhood pet roasting on his 'friend's' spit - drove them apart.

But James is back now, and Charlotte is all grown up,...more

There aren't enough words to describe just how much I loved this novella. Quite simply I adored it and it only solidified my love of Maya Rodale's work all that much more. Three Schemes was such a cute and charming read filled with humor and romance. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. I loved Charlotte's antics and simply adored the relationship between her and James. I just wanted more but in a good way. I would have loved to ha...more

Charlotte and James used to be partners in crime during their childhood days. They were always together getting into all kinds of adventures. But after James went away to school at age 15, and Charlotte discovering her beloved dead pet rabbit stolen from his graven and roasting over a fire by James and his friends, their close friendship ended.

Now eight years later at a garden party to celebrate Lord Hastings newly built Folly, Charlotte comes up with a plan to match her f...more

THREE SCHEMES AND A SCANDAL by Maya Rodale is an interesting historical romance set in Regency England. A novella that is a quick fun read. 3.5 of "The Writing Girls",but can read a stand alone. See,"A Groom Of One's Own", "A Tale of Two Lovers", "The Tattooed Duke" and "Seducing Mr. Knightly". Charolotte grows up finally. Fast paced. Filled with laughable adventure, passion, and love. A must read especially if you enjoy laugh out loud situations as a young lady schemes. Follow,Lady Charlotte Bra...more

While a short read, I didn't notice a lack in the story or character development. I was a little confused in the beginning because of the way the chapters were laid out (as my copy is an uncorrected proof, I'm not sure if it is still like this), it was difficult to get into the story at first. Once I did, I really enjoyed Charlotte; she is the type of historical heroine I enjoy reading about--take charge, fun, quick witted, and unwilling to let society get in the way of her desires. Jam...more

My review cross-posted from Joyfully Reviewed: http://www.joyfullyreviewed.com/recom...

Though she’s made a promise not to concoct any more schemes, Lady Charlotte Brandon simply can’t help herself. She has a friend in need of matchmaking and she knows just the gentleman who’d be the perfect husband: her childhood companion, James Beauchamp. Only Charlotte’s schemes have a way of going wrong, which is how she finds herself locked in a folly with James. Charlotte certainly doesn’t...more

I love starting a series with a novella! It gives us a taste of what we can expect and what the tone is like.

This novella was a very exciting read. Maya has a contemporary tone to her storytelling, making it fun, entertaining and fast paced. Three Schemes and a Scandal is filled with energetic dialogue, and that's the main reason I enjoyed it so much. Maya Rodale captivated me with her writing, I'll definitely read more of her books.

I laughed so hard reading this book. It was my first funny historical romance and I loved it.
Charlotte is charming and much too smart for her own good, always getting into the most scandalous escapades. She always has a "plan" in mind.
James is a dashing rogue who was Charlotte childhood best friend, but they had a falling out. Now they made up just in time to fall in love.
Jennifer
Very sweet and funny historical novella. It focuses on Charlotte, sister of the hero from A Groom of One's Own, who has a tendency to create and perform elaborate schemes. I love childhood friend-to-lovers stories and this one was very cute. Both main characters were deep and relatable and they worked well as a couple. I thought all the different schemes were hilarious and the marriage proposal was one of the cutest I've read in awhile.

normally I hate short stories. they eat up one of my library downloads and have no substance. but this one was ridiculous and cute. and now I want a fox.
Jessie Mihalik
Silly, ridiculous, and fun. Doesn't take itself too seriously.

the writing girls are such fun...

This one was cute... I don't usually care for Novellas due to their short length and generally leaving one with the feeling of wanting more... But I think this one was just right. :)

This is my first Maya Rodale story, but it won't be my last. This novella features childhood friends who have become estranged until Charlotte's attempt to set up James with one of her friends backfires. A cute, fun story.

Thank you to Edelweiss and Avon for give me the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.

Maya Rodale began reading romance novels in college at her mother’s insistence. She is now the author of numerous “dazzlingly sexy and witty” historical romance novels. A champion of the romance genre and it’s readers, she is also the author of the non-fiction book Dangerous Books For Girls: The Bad Reputation Of Romance Novels, Explained and a co-founder of Lady Jane’s Salon, a national reading s...more
