Review:

As an American, I will never forget the life-altering events of 9/11/2001. I was thirteen, just starting seventh grade, and the day seemed like any other - Algebra followed by ILA, Reading, Lunch, etc... - but word quickly spread that the day was anything but typical. After 9:45am, the teachers were glued to their computer screens, shock and utter disbelief on their faces. They wouldn't tell us what was happening, not wanting to start mass panic, but scared parents were already beginning...more

I like many others have clear memories about September 11th. Where I was and what I was doing. Oddly enough I don't remember much about what I did that day, but I clearly recall the images I saw on television and the emotions they engendered. In this book, the author recalls her own thoughts and feelings about that day and the events that followed. A lot of what she shares I also remember thinking and feeling, but she does share some things that she learned that I was not aware of. Such as what...more

“Where were you on 9/11?,” asked Ashes Ashes: The Twins Fall Down a new book on 9/11 by debutant author, Pauline L. Hawkins, which hit the market in mid-June 2012.

But who would care to remember?

Or is it the other way round? Who can forget where they were when the most audacious terrorist attack in all history brought the Twin Towers crashing down?

That question has become part of the fabric of American lives and most probably that of peace-loving people across the globe. On that bright, sunny day...more

When I saw this book available, I just knew I had to read it. 9/11 is one of those things that resonates with most of us Americans, and this book is a simple-to-read book about a time that changed America forever. I think everything in today's America is judged pre-9/11 and post-9/11. And the author (who is a wonderful person!)is right in saying that everyone wants to talk about where they were on 9/11. The very words or images come to mind in an instant whenever 9/11 is spoken.

I appreciated her...more

This intriguing book details Hawkins’ personal account of her experiences with the nation’s tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001 in New York City, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC. She confirms that while the occupants of those planes and buildings suffered the greatest, and by extension, their families, the United States as a whole was greatly impacted by these events. Hawkins relates her personal concerns as a citizen, mother, and businessperson. The book also gives many int...more

The author of this book did some tremendous research and gave some really good facts about what where and when things happened. I enjoyed the first 5 chapters or so dealing with how 9/11 was this generations JFK assasination ie where was i, how did I deal with explaining to my child etc. i was also taken by her description of the Patriot act. It gave some great information on what is contained in the act.

A few things made me zip through the last few chapters. The authors political view shined br...more

What an eye opener. Probably like most Americans, I had no idea of what the Patriot Act is. I did not even know it actually is an acronym USA PATRIOT Act. A short book with a lot of information, most of which I am now quite uncomfortable knowing. This will take me some time to process.
