I already knew Toni Davidson was a fantastic writer from having read Scar Culture and a number of his short stories, but My Gun Was As Tall As Me raises him, in my mind, into the ranks of truly great. The story revolves around a village in an unnamed war-torn South East Asian country (most likely Burma judging by the research material cited), the Internally Displaced People of that village / country and various NGOs, doctors and journalists there trying to help. This was a fantastic novel. The descriptions were vivid and real. I couldn't help falling in love with Davidson's writing. The story itself was fast-moving and thriller-like that I hated being called away from it. Thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend others to read!
