Knight Awakened is a phenomenal start to Circle of Seven series. A world with prophecies, witchery and dragons, Ms. Callahan delivered a brilliant story. What I have learned about this author after reading Dragon Fury is that she is great at world building. I have also come to expect lots of action, suspense and romance complete with steamy scenes. Knight Awakened has all that and then some. Ms Callahan surely did NOT disappoint!

Best. Fucking. Book. Ever. This book has everything I adore: an epic story, two awesome main characters (a brooding and merciless killer as a hero and a soft but kickass heroine), a beautiful love story, an amazing and unique universe and freaking dragons! Read it.

Lee Anne - OMG! Spring is Finally Here!

“And out of the ashes seven warriors shall rise. Bringers of death, they shall wreak vengeance upon the earth, until shadow is driven into darkness and only the light remains.”

And so it begins, the seven are together and they will bring death and wreak vengeance upon the earth!

Afina is a wonderful heroine. She is sensitive without being weak, she’s strong without being hard-hearted, she’s loving and kind and most importantly forgiving and understanding. I REALLY liked her and found myself chee

The promise was there and there were some spectacular moments but this book never came together the way a book should. It read like a series of blackout sketches that left me feeling punked. Add in the nonsensical "history" and the author's penchant for referring to her characters by different names as well as hour after hour of boring detail that should have been cut and I'm not a happy listener.

I can't figure out why she bothered to provide a 14th century date since this is straight up fantasy

Coreene Callahan does it again! With the onset of her second series, Coreene shows us that her Dragon Fury Series is not a one shot wonder.. The Circle of Seven Series is darker, edgier, grittier.. pretty difficult when her Dragon Fury Series is a cross between Urban Fantasy and PNR..

Knight Awakened takes place in 14th century Transylvania.. and no there aren't any vampires.. well not yet who knows what the ever creative Ms Callahan has up her sleeve for future books. What this book does have i

KNIGHT AWAKENED is truly like stepping into a different world. With vivid descriptions and dramatic plot twists, it is sure to get a rise out of its readers. While very detailed in its backstory and introduction of new characters, the slower pacing definitely allowed the time to really understand the world that Callahan has created.

The romance between Afina and Ramir progressed at a steady pace, first involving feelings of distrust and fear then moving on to feelings of loyalty and love. Though

On the run for two years, Afina hides from the warlord Vladimir Barbu and his brutality. But when the fiercest assassin is sent after her, Afina's days of freedom may be numbered. Xavian was taken from his family at a young age. Beaten and molded into a killing machine, he defied his cruel master and broke free. Wishing to save boys from the same fate, the bounty he'd receive for handing over Afina would secure that dream but Xavian isn't the monster everyone, including himself, thinks

If you’ve been following my reviews here on Tynga’s Reviews this past year, you might have noticed how much I’ve enjoyed Coreene Callahan’s Dragonfury series so far. It reminds me so much of J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series because of the brotherly bond between the warriors and the intense bond they share with their mates. While this newest series of hers has those qualities, it’s a forage into a different genre altogether. Although KNIGHT AWAKENED does have a few dragons, the story c ...more

A few months ago I was contacted by author Coreene Callahan to review the first book in her Circle of Seven series and as soon as I read the summary that she provided I knew I would be in for a real treat. However, the book got pushed to the side until last week when I finally (sorry Coreene!) got around to it and I am so glad that this was my second read of the year.

This book was everything I hoped it would be and more. Coreene Callahan created a wonderful story that is a fantastic mixture of h

Knight Awakened is the first book by Coreene Callahan that I've ever read. However, let me assure you that it won't be the last. This first book in the Circle of Seven series was a great read and I can't wait to learn more about this world.

What did I love about this book? Well let's start with the sexual tension. It was full of it. The sparks flying off of Xavian and Afina were more than enough to set my heart ablaze. I couldn't wait till they got it on.

Very fast paced fun read. Magic, mystical beings, and warrior assassins fill this world with exciting entertainment. To be honest, from the write up on the back I wasn't really sure what to expect from this one. If I'm being totally honest, I wasn't sure I'd like it but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. It was definitely entertaining.

I think there will be at least 7 books in this series which I'm thankful for because I have some questions. The book was complete and had a great conclusion I just h

I am a big fan of Coreene’s Dragonfury series, so when Coreene contacted me to see if I was interested in reviewing Knight Awakened I jumped at the chance. I do not read a lot of historical romance, but there is enough paranormal in this book to keep me satisfied. And I actually found myself really loving the language of this time and the historical elements that were woven into the story. Since this is the first book in the series Corenne did have a lot of information to give us to develop thi ...more

I just won a copy of this book. It looks like it is going to be amazing! I can't wait till it gets here.

***UPDATE***

Well I have finally taken the time to read this amazing book and I am kicking myself for putting it off for so long! So I won this book on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review. Here it is.....

A definite 5 star rating - Colleen Callahan’s Dragon Fury Series is one of my favorite reads and I feel we now have a magnificent start with Knight Awakened, the first of her new series “Circle of Seven”. This was a fantastic book. Even thou there was a lot of information to absorb, this was something that was expected for the first book of the series. The development of the love and trust between Alfina and Xavian was a truly wonderful and enjoyable read. All of the information that was given o ...more

I really enjoyed this one. But if it bothers you to read a historical book and they talk modern then this book will be a challenge for you. I actually enjoyed the modern speak. Made it easier for me to get into and to follow. I really enjoyed the very slow relationship between Xavian and Afina. But I really wanted was for this brute to at some point acknowledge that he hurt Afina in many ways especially their first time together, he was such a HUGE jerk! But I realized by the end that he didn't ...more

What an amazing book. I love the Dragonfury Series so I decided to give this new one a try & I am so glad I did. Coreene your imagination rocks. Xavian & Afina's story is truly heartwarming. I was taken on a wonderful journey from the first page right to the end. How Xavian turned his life around after the way he was raised & the way his men followed him out from the assassination's organization. Xavian & Afina's growing years were heartbreaking but they also made them strong eno ...more

In most cases, if I love a book, I will like the audio just as much - or in some cases more! That is when you know that the narrator is good. When they can take a good book and make it better. But, sometimes, that isn't the case and that is when I regret the loss of the coveted audible credit...

In the case of Coreene Callahan's Knight Awakened, I felt that the narrator really didn't do the story justice. The fact that this was a new narrator, for a new series, but that the narrator didn't last u

You have phenomenal sexual tension between the two characters, and I love the action scenes. Throw in a prophecy, some dragons and a bit of mysticism and you’ve got this book in a nutshell.

The author’s vivid scenes draw you in with each twist and turn. An awe-inspiring feat that many authors find difficult. Her world building skills are enough to leave even the most skeptical going wow. Her fighting scenes are an originality I rarely see in romance novels.

The antagonists consist of two men that

This book was amazing. It took me to places I didn't even know exist, and I ship Xavian and Afina A LOT. So what happens in the book is that Vladimir needed Afina because he wants to be ruler of Translyvania...really, bro? Really? So he sent Xavian to get her and the child Sabine...but Xavian didn't mean to fall in love with her, take Afina's virginity, save her from slavers, try to protect her from dragons (which I got happy about...I mean DRAGONS people!!), oh and the original idea for Afina w ...more

I really loved reading this book. This is a nice change from the usual paranormal story as it is set in ancient Europe, among the Carpathian mountains, the country of Dracula and other legends.

Afina was quite the lady, very stubborn and protective of her daughter, she will do anything to escape and enjoy her independence. But here come Xavian who just steal her from home and take her away. The two of them really made a great match.

My only bad point is that sometimes we are lacking in term of exp

4 stars!

Okay, I jumped at the chance of reading this book because when I read the synopsis, I saw that there were DRAGONS in this book! Oh man, anyone who knows me knows how much I love dragons! Like, I have a serious love for them! Also, this book set in the Medieval era was another HUGE plus for me.

This book did live up to my expectations! I loved the characters of Xavian (awesome name, right!?) and Afina. Oh man...Xavian was a tortured hero and even though he did the, "why me?...she deserves

So if you are a diehard history buff, or even diehard historical romance buff, a lot of the language, phraseology, and word choice in this read will tick you off. Because there is the most definitely a modern edge. I've been reading the historical romance for years. It's one of my fave subgenres of romance. So the language didn't bother me all that much, but the words that didn't "belong" did jump off the page. However, I absolutely love the story. I love the world, I love to see dragons, and I ...more

I gave this 3 stars for reasons that have left me perturbed. There is a lot of story lines going on which makes the story complicated. We have the main character xavian and Afina their journey into light and darkness. Then we have the other characters with their own individual issues. Plus the main plot of what will happen to Halal and his involvement with the King of darkness guy. Like I said there is so much going on that it is hard to focus on the main characters and their story. I wish there ...more

I had read the first two books in the author's Dragonfury series which I enjoyed. I had intended to try this book when it was originally published, but I admit that I got completely distracted with other books. Ooops. :)

Anyways, I saw a Facebook posting that this was on sale, so while I was at work (shhhhh, don't tell anyone!), I decided to go on and order this. (Have I mentioned that it's a lot easier to read holding my iPhone as I'm walking at work to and from the restroom, break room, and my

The big issue with this book is it can't seem to make up its mind what it wants to be. Is it historical fiction? Is it fantasy? The author uses real world locations and dates, but then you have dragons and magic goddesses. It's weird when you have the High Priestess of a the goddess using totally Christian exclamations (Mother Mary! Jesu!). That and everyone speaks with a sort of Ren Faire "authentic" vocabulary with lots of mayhaps, morrows and a really irritating abundance of 'twas. Then they' ...more

Loved every word

Afina is in hiding with her sister's daughter. Xavian has been sent by a man to bring her to him. Realizing he has been lied to, he decides to take her to his home.
Xavian has created a refuge for people like himself. He was stolen from his family and made a very skilled assassin. He has suffered horrific abuse, as had Afina by her mother.
Toss in Dragon shifters, warrior's with a code of honor, and tons of magic and second chances, this is a masterpiece. C. Callahan never disappoi
