Knight Awakened is a phenomenal start to Circle of Seven series. A world with prophecies, witchery and dragons, Ms. Callahan delivered a brilliant story. What I have learned about this author after reading Dragon Fury is that she is great at world building. I have also come to expect lots of action, suspense and romance complete with steamy scenes. Knight Awakened has all that and then some. Ms Callahan surely did NOT disappoint!

This book had been hanging out on my Kindle for awhile and now I could kick myself for not reading this sooner.

The story was filled with non-stop adventure. Xavian, the hero, is a brooding and tortured soul trying to do right by the men that follow him. He grew up in a sadistic cruel world, trained as an assassin so he doesn’t know much about love. Not until he meets, or shall I say, kidnaps Afina. Afina is magical healer who turns out to be a priestess. She is hiding from an evil villain who o

Best. Fucking. Book. Ever. This book has everything I adore: an epic story, two awesome main characters (a brooding and merciless killer as a hero and a soft but kickass heroine), a beautiful love story, an amazing and unique universe and freaking dragons! Read it.

The writing is all over the place. I am bored, skimming, and in a serious wtf momment.

The character's train of thought is a disorganized mess. The dialogue is inconsistant bouncing back and forth from modern slang to Scottish to proper historical (for lack of a better description)

The time period is supposed to be in the 1300's yet there are numerous modern day references.

The child, who is 2, doesn't need diaper changes and can speak like a 5 years old.

The promise was there and there were some spectacular moments but this book never came together the way a book should. It read like a series of blackout sketches that left me feeling punked. Add in the nonsensical "history" and the author's penchant for referring to her characters by different names as well as hour after hour of boring detail that should have been cut and I'm not a happy listener.

I can't figure out why she bothered to provide a 14th century date since this is straight up fantasy

I have no remembrance of getting this book. I don’t know if it was a freebie – if it was, alas it isn’t now, I don’t know if I read a good review, I don’t think I bought it by the cover – something I’ve done before. I don’t think it was the book blurb as it doesn’t sound like something that would influence me. All I do know is I ordered it Oct 19/14. And what it was that even prompted me to start this book I don’t know. I have A LOT of books now between the three different ‘readers’, Kindle, Kob ...more

And so it begins, the seven are together and they will bring death and wreak vengeance upon the earth!

Afina is a wonderful heroine. She is sensitive without being weak, she’s strong without being hard-hearted, she’s loving and kind and most importantly forgiving and understanding. I REALLY liked her and found myself chee
DNF at 86% when I realized I was making myself finish this book. What starts out seeming like a period historical romance in a really cool place/time (Carpathian Mountains!), turned into a really disjointed paranormal fantasy with a poorly constructed world. It was like reading paranormal stunt-casting - in pops some disparate paranormal thingy for a scene or two. I am more than a little surprised this novel received so many 5 star ratings. Even with so much going on, I was bored. And I should h ...more

Coreene Callahan does it again! With the onset of her second series, Coreene shows us that her Dragon Fury Series is not a one shot wonder.. The Circle of Seven Series is darker, edgier, grittier.. pretty difficult when her Dragon Fury Series is a cross between Urban Fantasy and PNR..

Knight Awakened takes place in 14th century Transylvania.. and no there aren't any vampires.. well not yet who knows what the ever creative Ms Callahan has up her sleeve for future books. What this book does have i

Very fast paced fun read. Magic, mystical beings, and warrior assassins fill this world with exciting entertainment. To be honest, from the write up on the back I wasn't really sure what to expect from this one. If I'm being totally honest, I wasn't sure I'd like it but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. It was definitely entertaining.

I think there will be at least 7 books in this series which I'm thankful for because I have some questions. The book was complete and had a great conclusion I just h

Just no. Nothing about this was anything I liked.

The setting was a real time and place (1400s Transylvannia) but it was a hot mess of anachronisms. Most of the characters talked like they were from Scotland 2003.

The "history" provided... what? And then there's a layer of fantasy over the whole thing (dragons! magic!). I'd have been bothered less by it all if she'd just made up a place entirely. I'd still have hated the word overuseage (trews! lass! twas! mayhap!) and the anachronistic language,

KNIGHT AWAKENED is truly like stepping into a different world. With vivid descriptions and dramatic plot twists, it is sure to get a rise out of its readers. While very detailed in its backstory and introduction of new characters, the slower pacing definitely allowed the time to really understand the world that Callahan has created.

The romance between Afina and Ramir progressed at a steady pace, first involving feelings of distrust and fear then moving on to feelings of loyalty and love. Though

I am a big fan of Coreene’s Dragonfury series, so when Coreene contacted me to see if I was interested in reviewing Knight Awakened I jumped at the chance. I do not read a lot of historical romance, but there is enough paranormal in this book to keep me satisfied. And I actually found myself really loving the language of this time and the historical elements that were woven into the story. Since this is the first book in the series Corenne did have a lot of information to give us to develop thi ...more
If you’ve been following my reviews here on Tynga’s Reviews this past year, you might have noticed how much I’ve enjoyed Coreene Callahan’s Dragonfury series so far. It reminds me so much of J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series because of the brotherly bond between the warriors and the intense bond they share with their mates. While this newest series of hers has those qualities, it’s a forage into a different genre altogether. Although KNIGHT AWAKENED does have a few dragons, the story c ...more
A few months ago I was contacted by author Coreene Callahan to review the first book in her Circle of Seven series and as soon as I read the summary that she provided I knew I would be in for a real treat. However, the book got pushed to the side until last week when I finally (sorry Coreene!) got around to it and I am so glad that this was my second read of the year.

This book was everything I hoped it would be and more. Coreene Callahan created a wonderful story that is a fantastic mixture of h

On the run for two years, Afina hides from the warlord Vladimir Barbu and his brutality. But when the fiercest assassin is sent after her, Afina's days of freedom may be numbered. Xavian was taken from his family at a young age. Beaten and molded into a killing machine, he defied his cruel master and broke free. Wishing to save boys from the same fate, the bounty he'd receive for handing over Afina would secure that dream but Xavian isn't the monster everyone, including himself, thinks

Knight Awakened is the first book by Coreene Callahan that I've ever read. However, let me assure you that it won't be the last. This first book in the Circle of Seven series was a great read and I can't wait to learn more about this world.

What did I love about this book? Well let's start with the sexual tension. It was full of it. The sparks flying off of Xavian and Afina were more than enough to set my heart ablaze. I couldn't wait till they got it on.

A definite 5 star rating - Colleen Callahan’s Dragon Fury Series is one of my favorite reads and I feel we now have a magnificent start with Knight Awakened, the first of her new series “Circle of Seven”. This was a fantastic book. Even thou there was a lot of information to absorb, this was something that was expected for the first book of the series. The development of the love and trust between Alfina and Xavian was a truly wonderful and enjoyable read. All of the information that was given o ...more

I really enjoyed this one. But if it bothers you to read a historical book and they talk modern then this book will be a challenge for you. I actually enjoyed the modern speak. Made it easier for me to get into and to follow. I really enjoyed the very slow relationship between Xavian and Afina. But I really wanted was for this brute to at some point acknowledge that he hurt Afina in many ways especially their first time together, he was such a HUGE jerk! But I realized by the end that he didn't ...more

What an amazing book. I love the Dragonfury Series so I decided to give this new one a try & I am so glad I did. Coreene your imagination rocks. Xavian & Afina's story is truly heartwarming. I was taken on a wonderful journey from the first page right to the end. How Xavian turned his life around after the way he was raised & the way his men followed him out from the assassination's organization. Xavian & Afina's growing years were heartbreaking but they also made them strong eno ...more
Awesome book - potentially awesome series! Dark and lush, Knight Awakened is a story told with great passion. I really enjoyed the audiobook. The narrator, Suzan Crowley, took the story and made it her own. It was like listening to a skilled storyteller. The well written sights, sounds and feelings of the story came alive with Ms. Crowely's wonderful reading.

A really good start to a new series, though the dragons feature only a little bit (much to my disappointment). Nice cast of characters and the beginning of the story arc which I think will span several books. Looking forward to reading book 2

Ah, assassins, dragons, and damsels in distress. AGreat read, totally different from the Dragon Fury series.
Felt too long

Though written well, with colorful language and nice turns of phrase, somehow the pacing was off. It didn't flow well and it seemed to take forever to finish. Lots of questions raised; few answered. No doubt setting up for sequels, but I'm not sure I feel invested enough in the characters to continue with the next story. The relationship between the two main characters was slightly unbelievable. They came together too easily, it didn't feel natural. It was an okay story, but too muc

Wow! I don’t know how she does it. This is her 4th book this year and I am officially obsessed with Coreene Callahan! I have come to expect an engrossing story that sucks me into it and doesn’t let go until the last page. Knight Awakened did not disappoint me. It is a historical romance, paranormal, fantasy mashup with characteristic Coreene complexities and it captured my

You have phenomenal sexual tension between the two characters, and I love the action scenes. Throw in a prophecy, some dragons and a bit of mysticism and you’ve got this book in a nutshell.

The author’s vivid scenes draw you in with each twist and turn. An awe-inspiring feat that many authors find difficult. Her world building skills are enough to leave even the most skeptical going wow. Her fighting scenes are an originality I rarely see in romance novels.

The antagonists consist of two men that
