My favorite part of this book was the wonderful sayings that the author had at the beginning of each chapter. All of the sayings had to do with finances, investment in the like--which is, of course, the premise of the story. Which is probably why it was not my favorite read. After all, what do I know about money, investment and the stock market? Really, I know nothing. So I can't say this is a book where I was truly able to connect with the story and the characters. But this is not the fault of ...more

What do you get when you mix four quirky best friends, stock investments and bloody mary's with corruption, murder and mayhem? One heck of an entertaining fiscal thriller that will keep you guessing what will happen next to the gals of The Bloody Mary Club!

The Bloody Mary Club is a fast-paced entertaining fiscal thriller set in scenic historical Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia. Masterfully written in the third person narrative by an author who has a vast experience in the stock market industry, t

I liked Gina from the very beginning. She is fun, smart, and doesn't put up with anyone's crap. Throughout the book she helps her friends with personal issues and investment issues. She is having a great year and it looks like she'll be able to retire as a multimillionaire...until Andrew shows up to town.

Andrew is everything Gina's boyfriend Johnny is, and more. He's attractive, strong, and wants to make a deal that Gina shouldn't be able to refuse. He's offering a price on her stock that's si

In this day and age of stock market scandals and banking woes most aren’t eager to read anything dealing with financial issues. However, author Debbie Dyke has put a fun and interesting spin on the situation resulting in a delightful mystery, THE BLOODY MARY CLUB.

Savvy 40ish investment advisor Gina Van Story puts her talents to use and talks her three best friends into forming the Bloody Mary Investment Club. Gina teaches her friends the ins and outs of the stock market while they enjoy made-to-

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Calling this a fiscal thriller is a perfect and totally unique description. There were times I did find some of the financial talk a little confusing. I know a bit about mutual funds, IRAs and such, but this book went deeper than my knowledge. I imagine for someone who lives and breathes finances, though, this book would be even more enjoyable, because they speak the language.

The story's greatest strengths for the lay reader are G

There are mysteries that you curl up with on a dark and stormy night and then there are mysteries that you take with you to the beach, or you read while sitting on your back porch sipping an iced tea or maybe a bloody mary. I'm sure from my not so clever reference to Bloody Mary's that you can tell that The Bloody Mary Club is more of the latter kind of book, though there would not be anything wrong with curling up with it on a dark and stormy night.

But if you don't like scary mysteries, you ar

Debbie Dyke is on tour now with CLP Blog Tours and her financial thriller The Bloody Mary Club. I was looking forward to reading this book because I love smart, crafty writing, and that is just what I got! The setting is Historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The time is during the stock market meltdown. Our MC is Gina Van Story, a smart and ambitious investment advisor. She is on the prowl for the last big score before she retires, but she doesn’t expect to run into corruption – and death – ...more

The Bloody Mary Club by Debbie Dyke is a 394 page thriller written in third person, past tense. A quick prologue brings us up to speed and I was immediately sucked into the book. The writing is engaging, the story moves fast and Dykes fun personality shines through. Actually, it was at the very beginning, in her acknowledgements (of all places) that I knew I would love her writing, and I was not disappointed. Her characters were very well developed. The way they interacted with one another in ...more

This is the first book in a brand new financial intrigue series. The premise of this book is excellent. It's well thought out and planned. I found it quite suspenseful and I wanted to keep turning the pages to see what would happen next.

The characters were realistic with real problems, but I didn't always like the characters. I thought all of them were way too wrapped up in money and getting the most they can. The villains were pretty evil and I was rooting for them to get what they deserved. Th

The Bloody Mary Club is a fun read about a stockbroker who becomes involved in a attempted bank takeover by a greedy, unscrupulous but exceedingly handsome man. The story is character driven and written with humor and knowledge about the brokering of stocks. The author is well versed in the ins and outs of the stock market. Add to this some zany ladies and an irresistible fiancee and you have yourself a very fun read. I enjoyed it very much and I look forward to Gina's Tonic, the next book ...more
