Okay, I'm normally NOT a Medieval romance girl. NOT. This was good. There's wit, there's charm. It's a pages-fly-by-with-your-feet-up-on-a-bad-day kind of book.

The thing that separated it out for me was the subplot with the annoying and incompetent relative who's set herself up as the chatelaine at Alayna's grandfather's house. I wanted her dead. This is going to sound strange, and I don't know how better to put it, but that subplot was like an exorcism of a bad day at an office job, set in the...more

Medieval romances just need to be back 'IN' because I've missed reading them. If you love Julie Garwood--Joanna Lindsey--Judith McNaught or some of the other old school, knights and castles authors--you will enjoy this book. This also has a touch of magic and a romance that builds perfectly. The voice is soft and subtle, the characters are strong, self reliant and very wounded, the medieval world is there but doesn't overshadow the story.

I also love when characters have to battle themselves and...more

A great read, soft medieval voice that reminds me of the writers that made me fall in love with this genre. Lots of care and emotion in this gentle tale. Royce, the hero, has to struggle through a lot. Lana Williams has been in Romance Writer's of America with me for many years. I know her dedication to her craft and to historical storytelling are huge. Her care and commitment shines through this book.

I also voted for it for BesBest Romance with Children Characters because this book has the cha...more

I really enjoyed this book as an escape from my normal genre reads. The characters were real, making you love Royce and Alyna and dislike the villains (won't spoil who). The romantic tension was there throughout and the story made me want to read on. The Medieval period was a perfect setting for the standard night in shining armor tale. I could picture the story's settings in my mind. I must admit it was not my normal genre for reading. I came across the novel when I met Lana at a writers worksh...more

I am not normally a romance reader, but I love historical tales in the medieval period and I found Alyna and Royce to be such compelling characters that I was quickly hooked.

Both the storyline and characters are well fleshed-out and, for me, that's always a recipe for a page turner! I loved the magical nature of Alyna's little Nicholas, and Royce's growing devotion to both of them, combined with a conflict between upholding a long standing vow for vengeance versus following his heart.

Alyna takes on a baby who is not her own and has the gift of premonition, which in her time makes her an unsuitable wife and the child a witch or crazy. When she is betrothed to Tegmont, a man whose previous wives have died mysteriously, Royce, her grandfather's knight steals her away from her father. There she grows fond of Royce, but tensions mount with her grandfather's secrets of retaining her and her aunt the steward and Edward a knight with little honor.

This is exactly what I needed and was looking for after reading so many romantic fantasies. I have really missed a good, Yummy midieval story and this was perfect! It was heartwarming, and heart-wrenching at different parts, and all the while it kept me hanging on and thirsting to read more. True romance, sword play, some deceit and of course endless entertainment and imagery!
Highly recommend this authour and book!

Predictable....check

Slightly cheesy....check

Sweet to the point you wish you had a Royce in your life....check

A worthwhile read....double check.

I liked this story for what it was. It was sweet, held my attention, and left a warm and fuzzy feeling when I finished. Is it one of those books I just couldn't put down or feel I must read again? No. Either way though, I enjoyed it and it is worth the four stars.

Entertaining journey.

Lana Williams has crafted an extraordinary story of medieval love. A Vow to Keep has the perfect mix of romance and intrigue. The attraction between Alyna and Royce sizzles and their deeper emotional connection gave me the best butterflies. The historical setting is spot on while the secondary characters round out this epic love story. Can't wait for the second book in the trilogy!

A romance story set in the time of knights. It started out strong but midway through I found myself skimming to hurry it along. *****SPOILER ALERT, OF SORTS***** Ending (the last couple of pages)seemed rushed; i.e. everything wrapped up neatly in a bow for the happily-ever-after...which I found to be disappointing in how 'by-the-book' it was done. Sorry.

Every now and then a book comes along that grabs my attention. Such was true for Ms. Williams debut novel, A Vow To Keep. It's been a long time since I've read about Knights, Ladies and castles, and this story transported me back in time to a magicial place. Ms. Williams' voice shines throughout the story as she takes us inside Royce and Alyna's struggles for love to triumph over evil. More importantly, I found her style to be precise, near flawless and just as good (maybe even better)as those n...more

This was not just a historical romance, it was also about second sight and the usage of herbs, both very good researched.

Didn't expect to like it, due to storyline taking place in the medieval time period, but this book was a nice surprise.
