This book was a very good read.

It provided a great look into Ben Butler from his youth through his administration of New Orleans, highlighting the good things he did and the terrible things he did which outweighed the good, unfortunately.

The book only briefly covered Butler's military career post New Orleans, which has been covered in other books.

Definitely recommended to anyone curious about Ben Butler.

A study of Major General Ben Butler, a political general who knew nothing about warfare but proved adept at enriching himself while in command of the occupation troops in New Orleans for eight months. The book tells an interesting story but is somewhat repetitive.
