Othappu is based in the Christian community of Kerala and as a divine intervention, the book travelled with me as I went backpacking to the land of backwaters, to where Vasco De Gama and his associates brought their belief to this country, to where it all strated (though I hardly read much during the trip.) I can relate to the characters in this book to my own life...The book tells the story of a christian Nun who,falls in love with a Christain priest.The outlook of the society around them is so conservative that a christian Nun falling in love is supposed to be worse than crime.The intense mental pain and suffering that Margaleetha(The main character in the Novel) after this is the theme of the Novel.The Novelists tries top point out that there is the understanding of the eternal only when there i ...more
