I've known Julian Berengaut for well over 40 years and appreciated his talent on many areas. I knew that he read a lot professional literature and fiction. I knew that he wrote poetry and reviews. However the last I would suspect him for is that he is such a good writer. His "Estate of Wormwood & Honey" is a good novel. It is a wise novel showing how cruel the life and the people in one's life can be and how to handle the people when they are cruel. Julian's novel shows what to do with these ...more

Julian Berengaut's The Estate of Wormwood and Honey began like a Tolstoy novel but ended like a Harlequin historical romance. The plot interested me and the author formed places and people with great detail. However, once Nicolas and Sergey began to enact the revenge around which this novel revolves, the richness of the writing began to dissolve. It was a pretty good book. This was my second attempt at reading it. On my first attempt, I couldn't get through the first 30 pages. It is written very well and there is a good story line. I think there may have been a bit too much detail and that, with the material that was there, the book could have been much shorter. It took a lot of pages to find out what the idea and conflict of the book was going to be. But, like I said, it is a good book.

I am always a fan of historical fiction and this one did not disappoint.

I found the basic plot, while interesting and well developed, to be somewhat unoriginal.

Over all I am happy I read it and I did enjoy the characters.

A look at life in Russia under the czar.

I read this book because my family name was in the title. The book and characters where all believable. It did show that bitterness and sweet was a way of of life during this time. Well worth reading.
