My Thoughts:

I liked this book. It was a light, fast moving read. A nice change of pace from some of the other books I have been reading recently. And even though this is a Krewe of Hunters book, I didn’t feel like I was missing out on any information by not having read any of the other previous books with this subtitle. The characters were fun and it was a nice simple mystery.

So, Ms. Graham, where have I been all your life? In looking around before requesting this book from Netgalley, I was a bi...more

The Unholy by Heather Graham is the newest addition to The Krewe of Hunters series by Heather Graham. The Krewe of Hunters centers around a group of FBI agents who specialize in “unusual” crimes, unusual meaning paranormal in nature. Each of the Krewe has some ability, in this case that of seeing and talking to ghosts.

Sean Cameron started his career as a special effects artist with Archer Studios in Hollywood. After moving back home to Texas to take care of his old girlfriend who is dying, he jo...more

I am thoroughly convinced that no one can pull off paranormal romance like Ms. Graham can. Then again, I'm not going to lie...if you've read one of Heather's paranormal romances, you've read them all. And yet, I still enjoy her stories. I like that no matter how many books of hers I've read, there's still going to be a twist or two I'm not going to see coming. I also kind of dig the fact that there is almost always a celebrity ghost that is attached to the main character. Then again, it really c...more

This was the most entertaining of her books. I really liked it.
The ghosts were the best part.
Alistair Archer was all by himself in his dad movie theater watching old movie one sunday. His father has a old theater that shows old movies and its closed on sunday. Thier is a tunnel that runs from the theater to his adjacent studio where they make special effects for different movies. they sit on two acres next too very old cemetery. Down in part of the tunnel is...more

Another fascinating paranormal from this prolific and multitalented author, “The Unholy” is set in Los Angeles and Hollywood, focusing on a special effects firm which has a particular forte for “film noir,” the classics of the 1930’s through 1950’s, when movies such as “The Maltese Falcon” drew viewers in by the hordes. As well as showcasing these classics of the genre, the company also works on newer films in the same venue, and operates a museum showcasing classic film noir favorites.

But now,...more

I have really liked the "Krewe of Hunters" series so far, but The Unholy (Krewe of Hunters #6) was just an OK read for me. I did enjoy the murder mystery with the "locked room" mystery plot. Those are always fun to try to figure out. I really thought I had it all figured out, but I was way off base! I love when that happens!

I liked Madison's character and the idea that she can see and talk to dead people. I just couldn't get over the fact that Madison was visited by and talked to the ghost of Hu...more

The best thing about the ghost novels by Heather Graham is they are so hard to figure out who did it and this book was no exception. I will say I had the villain in my top 3 suspects but not the why. Heather Graham is the master of ghost stories. This is the sixth in the Krewe of Hunters series and the second with the Texas Krewe characters.

This time they head to L.A. because Sean’s old boss and mentor calls to say his son was arrested for murder. Madison...more

The Unholy really didn't stand out from the usual murder mystery with a twist for me. There's some interesting (semi-fictional) Hollywood history, but beyond that it's just the typical guy and girl solves a murder plot, down to the instant attraction and unavoidable red herrings. But despite the supernatural aspect, it's really not creepy at all, and while I liked it, I also think it's kinda disappointing and nothing special.

Madison Darvil and Sean Cameron, the girl and guy investigators, give t...more

When I first picked up this book I wasn't sure if I'd placed it on the right shelf (urban fantasy) here on Goodreads--it took a while for the fantasy element to show up. And for quite some time you're not sure if the killer is a fantastical element or if it really is a locked-room mystery with a very real murderer. (Side rant: anyone else out there hate it when a locked-room mystery--or deserted island, natch--turns out to be just a dream? Tell me how they got out of the room, darn it) This is m...more

A mystery based on old 1940's mysteries that I intend to wait to see if my rating should be 4 stars verus 5 stars. A son of a special effects film producer sneaks his very sexy would be girl -friend into a mock-up of an old Sam Stone film. One of creatures "comes to life" and murders the girlfriend and injures the son.The father, Eddie Archer asks Sean Cameron, a former employee, now FBI. to investigate what appears to be a locked room mystery .
I loved the story although like most romance-myst...more

First thought when finished: Not my favorite in the series but still a good read!

What I Thought of the Case: The Unholy was set in Hollywood and managed to bring in the old mixed with the new. This story had a very Noir type of feel that kept me reading from beginning to the end. As with each case before the murderer is very real but there are small paranormal e...more

This was both my first and last foray into the world of Heather Graham. The reviews for this were decent, the description sounded like it had tons of promise. A little murder, a little film noir, and a title that seems to promise an evil supernatural presence. I should have known from the start when the character of "Bogie," AKA Humphrey Bogart's ghost was introduced.

Cheesy characters, little action to contribute to plot development, and not much more "film-noir-esqueness" than the casual mentio...more

In Graham’s paranormal suspense novel, movie mogul Eddie Archer’s son is charge with murder. Eddie falls back on his friendship with agent Sean Cameron, who specializes in irregular investigations. Now a member of an FBI paranormal forensics team, Cameron knows that evil exists. Teaming with special-effects artist Madison Darvil, another gifted individual, they investigate the malevolent force hard at work at the Black Box Cinema.

A fast-paced and suspenseful story that will give readers chills a...more

How do you murder someone and escape from a room with only two entrances both covered by video cameras.
That is what Sean Cameron and the Krewe of Hunters must figure out when called in by Eddie Archer the father of the accused murder.Aiding Sean and acting as his guide around the studio is Madison Darvil asigned by Eddie to help.Madison is much like Sean and the rest of the Krewe, she speaks to the dead as well.More she has a live ghost, none other than Bogart, and Bogie is more than willing to...more

The Unholy is the sixth novel in Heather Graham’s Krewe of Hunter series. Each of her novels follows a special unit of the FBI that solves difficult cases utilizing paranormal gifts. All of her novels can be read as a standalone. They each deal with one member of the team, their love interest and a new case. Unholy was a fun read involving a closed room murder, the ghost of Humphrey Bogart and an old Hollywood Cinema. I quickly became swept up in this tale, and was surprised when the murderer wa...more

Another great novel by Heather Graham. As usual it was filled with suspense, mystery, romance, etc. This was another novel where I kept thinking I knew whom the bad guy or guys were. At least this time I was able to figure half of it out. Totally blew me away at the end though.

It was well written, fast paced, very suspenseful, and very enjoyable. I loved the 2 lead characters, Sean and Madison. Both were equally matched.

Great mystery with a few interesting facts about movies which was enjoyable...more

One of the things I enjoyed about this book is the fact that I honestly had no clue who the killer was. There were bits and pieces of the crime and various other scenes that I figured out immediately, but the killer never jumped out at me and that's something that seldom occurs when I'm reading a book unless the author randomly introduces a character near the end of the story. This story was nicely done and I enjoyed the ghosts and Krewe so much that I'm looking forward to the other books involv...more

The Unholy was a mystery with a dab of paranormal. Heather Graham’s writing is always well finished and smooth. The characters were well defined and extremely likeable, but I felt The Unholy fell short. It was very hard to get into this book and even half way through it I just didn’t feel that interested in the mystery. The mystery just didn’t seem that mysterious and the creepiness just wasn’t that creepy. The chemistry between Madison and Sean fell somewhere in the middle. The intensity was mi...more

I liked it. I thought the romance was great, the suspense was great. It wasn't obvious who the bad guy was right from the start, but I had a hard time getting why the bad guy targeted the heroine. May have to reread and see if I missed something, but the overall story was really good. I also wasn't a huge fan of the ghost being a famous celebrity. I think it is risky because people may have preconceived ideas about what celebrities may have been like. Of course, depending on how old the reader i...more

My Thoughts:

This is book 6 in Krewe of Hunters series; thank you Harlequin Mira and Netgalley for chance to review this book.

The main protagonist in this book is Sean and Madison; Sean is a FBI agent now while Madison is special effects artist. In this story Sean and his team are called in to investigate a murder of a young woman who was killed in the Black Box Cinema. Madison is assigned to the team to show them around the theatre and to help with the investigation since she also has some spec...more

I'll admit that I've been disappointed with the Krewe of Hunters series as of late. It's not that they're particularly bad as much as they've just been too similar to one another, which makes it hard to really see each one as an individual piece. Graham tries to break out of that mold slightly in this volume and while she does succeed in making it more unique than the previous novel (The Unseen), it still feels like it could have been slightly fresher.

There were things that I liked as well as di...more

This is the second in the second set of Krewe of Hunters series. As usual Heather Graham provides a suspenseful read with just the right amount of romance and a little bit of paranormal (no vampires or werewolves, just ghosts). This one takes place at a special effects studio next to a cemetary in Hollywood. As with the first book, the mystery in this one is also tied to a mysterious event from years ago. A good read, looking forward to the next in this series.

Good story, fairly predictable paranormal romance. It's the first book of a trilogy about a newly formed paranormal FBI team that investicates murders. The main charactors are likeable even though the romance was typicle of the author. The ending about who did it was rather disappointing, it seemed to be rushed to get to the end. Will probably read the next book to see what happens between the two main charactors, that can both see and speak with ghosts.

Alistair ha been arrested for murdering his girlfriend. He tells the story that a mannequin on a set had murdered her and he tried to save her. is father Eddie who is the owner of the special effects set contacts his friends to help prove his son innocent. One friend, who is now a special FBI agent (he can talk to the dead along with the members of his crew), comes to his aid to find the real killer.

I loved the characters and the story line. Heather Graham had me guessing until the very end yet again. I didn't like the ghost sections of the story at all, however.
Both Bogie and Jenny's parts in the story seemed a bit "cheesy" to me.
When Bogie goes to the Krewe meeting and everyone can see him, it just made the story less believable.
Laura Ruetz
i did not like this one as much as i have liked her other books. I think the story did not flow as smoothly as they usually do and I just never felt that connected to the female lead in this. Did love the lead's resident "ghost" though, those parts always made me smile. not a bad book, just not as well written as some of her others.

Just getting into this series by Heather Graham called "Krewe of Hunters" about a psychic FBI unit that investigates cases using their paranormal "gifts"--mediumship etc. So far I am enjoying the series. There are several more that I am on the waiting list for at my library so I am reading them in the order in which they come in.

I liked how Film Noir was included. And that was about the only thing I liked. I don't know why, but that last two books I've read have felt choppy and stilted. I didn't much feel the tension between the leads and everything seemed too thought out for passion.

But I do want to see some film noir now.
Linda
This is the sequel to The Unseen and is about the FBI group with paranormal abilities. As most of Heather Graham's books, it is very suspenseful and keeps your interest. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and have now started reading the next one in the series, The Unspoken.
