Gritty, visceral, exquisite poetry that ties you in knots, makes you snort, makes you feel a little too raw for this world. True, I'm from the same part of the country, but I don't think that matters. Like any great writer, Davenport puts you where he wants to put you, and you can almost smell the refinery, the river, the spilt beer.
