Karla Doyle (Goodreads Author)
A brutal mugging two years ago left Calli terrified to go out after dark, and incapable of real dating. Hanging out with a resentful Chihuahua every night hasn’t filled the void, and all the sex toys from the store she owns could never replace a flesh-and-blood man. An online Scrabble site promising anonymous, flirty fun sounds like just the ticket. A like-minded geek, tha...more

How did I come across this book, you might ask? Well… a very good friend of mine told me her panties caught fire… Mwahahahaha 3:) And this comes from a woman who have read adult fiction books before and she said she didn't get a lady boner, and now her knickers were on fire. WHERE DO I SIGN?
So I kind of knew my panty drawer would have to suffer the consequences if I dared to read this book. OH. MY. GOD!!!!!! This book was much more than... I expected (in a very good way).

This book started out strong but then went downhill some in the second half. I liked the beginning where they were flirting with each other then enjoying getting to know each other (and having some hot loving!).
Then in the second half it started coming apart due to stupid misunderstandings. There was a situation where he pushed her about her phobia in a ridiculous way then acted like an idiot and almost cheated (it went way too far for me). Then instead of talking it out they are...more

This is the second book by Karla Doyle I'ce read and I loved it even more than the first, and I already really loved that one.
MTW had scorching heat, laugh-out-loud humor, a fenomenal story, an awesome heroine and a hero that made me weak in the knees and made his way straight to the top of my favorite heroes list!
I'm enamored with Karla Doyle's voice and hope the wait for her next book won't be too long!

This was a great story. Travis is a sexy, tattooed, scrabble playing musician and Callie is a sweet and slightly neurotic woman that owns a Romance shop (aka sex store)...how could you not love this couple?!?!?!
Seriously though, both leads in this story are great. Callie is a real sweetheart but she suffered a brutal attack near her apartment. Now she can't go out side after dark without full blown panic attacks. It doesn't help that the man that attacked her was never caught and could still be...more

Hottest. Game. Of. Scrabble. Ever. X 1000. As a "geek girl" who met her husband online, almost 16 years ago, I can appreciate the semi-anonymous appeal of an online relationship. It's more compelling when the person focuses on our biggest erogenous zone - the brain.
The beginning of the relationship is hot! The H/h are grownups, not high school/college kids - which seems to be the genre du jour. They both have the baggage that we accumulate through life, and have to navigate their own "stuff," be...more

Within minutes of reading, I knew that Karla Doyle is indeed a talented author. She had me falling for her characters within minutes. I loved Travis & Calli's first Scrabble chat which was flirty, sexy, & funny. I definitely fell for these characters after this chat (especially with the hairy mole & third arm comments). This was one of the few books that I've read that had me literally laughing out loud (and that's a good thing!).

I'll start by saying not only did I finish the book, I devoured it within 24 hours. While nursing the worst cold I've had in years. I stayed up until 3 a.m. reading until my eyes simply wouldn't remain open any longer and picked the book right back up when I woke the next morning.
Karla's style is witty and natural. More than Words is fast paced, steamy, and original. While there was plenty of sex in the book, each interaction between the hero and heroine is authentic as well as varied. I didn't...more

I loved it!
It got me hooked from the very first chapter. Characters are very well written an I fell in love with Calli immediately. Her personality is a lot like mine when I was younger (insecurity, looking down on yourself etc) and that`s why it was easy to connect with her.
Travis is like 95% of single males - sluty, but that all changed one night while playing scrabble (that was a nice one)when he "met" Calli online. Tattoed-rock band-boy and shy nerdy girl that works at "I love sex" store. N...more
After Calli is mugged and nearly killed, she becomes afraid to leave her apartment at night. She holes up like a hermit, her only social outlet playing online Scrabble. She plays and flirts with Travis, a tattooed rock musician who’s tired of the party scene and one night stands. He’s taken by her, and after a misstep, manages to track her down to place of business and their cyber relationship becomes physical. Everything’s fine until the sun sets and Calli refuses leave her apartment because of...more
Travis is the newest addition to my Fictional Men Harem, which incidentally is growing by leaps and bounds. There's just so many amazing fictional men out there in the book world!
I had to add him in because not only is he a rock star musician with tattoos who writes songs but he's also a wizard at scrabble, designs websites during his off hours AND has a cat!!! Men with cats - gets me everytime. I heart Travis.

I originally learned about Karla Doyle and her recently released novel, More Than Words when I started participating in the Six Sentence Sunday blog hop. For some reason, the six sentence snippets she posted each Sunday captured my interest and made me very impatient to read the novel in its entirety.

I absolutely loved this book. We find two really cool and interesting characters, Calli and Travis. Calli is the owner of a 'romance' shop, that's how she calls her sex shop, and Travis is in a local but successful rock band, but he earns his money as a web designer. She hasn't gone out in the dark for two years because she was assaulted once while going to get her money in the bank close to her shop and went into hospital, so she's been afraid to be outside when it's dark ever since; he's got s...more
I really enjoyed this book! Callie is a smart, witty, sexy woman who has panic attacks when thinking about going outside after dark. It has been two years since she has left her apartment after the sun goes down.

First off, let me say this:
Hottest. Scrabble game. Ever.
I enjoyed this book immensely, much more than I thought I would. The intimate moments were more than hot. Calli turned out to be much more passionate, and just plain sexual, than I thought, especially considering the trauma she'd been through. And with the issues she was struggling with, Travis seemed to have a lot more baggage than Calli. I think I perceived it that way because his issues seemed to be preventing the couple from moving for...more

I discovered this book thanks to Liz’s cone of shame post (don’t click on that link, though, too many tempting books). When I saw dirty Scrabble and rock star hero, I was sold. I mean, how many of you stopped reading this to go and buy the book? The lure of the dirty Scrabble is irresistible and I’m weak. So I got it, and loved it until about the middle mark, then I didn’t love it as much. Here’s why:

First of all Travis is hot and I would play scrabble truth or dare with him any day. Now that, that's out if the way I really enjoyed this book. Calli spends her nights in her lonely apart, net by herself. Afraid to step outside after dark due to a brutal attack a few years ago. She mets Travis through and online scrabble match game. There messages during the game are hot and calli can't top thinking about him and wonder what he is really like
Travis is tired of the bad boy party rocker scene and...more

My body gave this 5 stars! I loved this book. One word sum up "STIMULATING". It had everything I love in a book. Hot sex, love, and dirty talk. O the dirty talk was fabulous. I fell in love with both Calli and Travis. It was not only steamy, but I really enjoyed reading it. I was in the middle of this other book and happen across this piece and I couldn't put this book down. I am sorry I stink at reviews (I'm a new reader and definitely not a writer) so I can't get all technica...more

This was a great love story. I was expecting a hot read, and it was, but it was much more as well. For a short book, it packed an emotional punch. I felt so bad for poor Calli - debilitated by fear because of random act of violence two years prior. I usually get easily irritated by an insecure heroine, but Calli was just so real in all her worries and doubts, that it was actually charming and sweet. I also loved that Travis was not this perfect, always knows the right thing to say hero. He manag...more
This book was such a fun read. The way the characters met was fun and creative, and the sex was smoking hot. I also liked the secondary characters, Prince Charming and Kersh. (The pets.)
I liked Travis a lot. He'd lived his life making mistakes and wanted a change, so he went looking for it.
Calli was struggling to overcome a traumatic episode, and took a chance when she wanted to spice up her love life. Enter the smoking hot sex scenes!
I thought the ending was a little bit cheesy, but that's OK--...more

HOLY SH*&%#$$%#T! I LOVED this book. Seriously, if Ms. Doyle wrote an adaptation of the phone book, I'd read it at this point.
It's smart and sexy and funny. Travis is scrumptious and the man knows how to talk during the sexytimes! Calli was hard to get at first but I understood why she was as hesitant as she was. Her self esteem was in the crapper and it was nice to see her very slowly come to realize she was attractive and loveable.

So, other people have mentioned that this book sets panties on fire. It's true. It's ALL TRUE!
Where to start? First, who knew Scrabble could be so damn sexy, right? I mean, you put a bunch of letter tiles together and FLIRT with a hot guy who later shows up and melts your panties. I want in on that game.
The characters are NOT perfect. I loved that! They are real, they have problems, they make mistakes. And it's perfect.
No spoilers here, so I'll stop before I spill too much. In short--read this...more

Okay. They are playing dirty anonymous online Scrabble. IT'S MY PERFECT BOOK. And I really love Karla's voice--it's funny and quick and simple but still sophisticated, which is not an easy feat. I found both characters sympathetic and believable--even though it would have been easy for her to let her heroine to fall into a "victim" role. The sex in this book (and her first, too) is crazy-hot. I had some mild credulity issues with some aspects of the plot, but they actually didn't cramp my enjoym...more
I REALLY enjoyed this book. I knew it was going to be good when I read her Six Sentence Sunday snippets, but man, it was even better when I got to read it in its entirety. Calli has a tremendous fear of being out of her home in the darkness where she'd been mugged two years previous. Travis is tired of the rock'n'roller lifestyle with serial sex partners, so one Saturday night they log into Wordloverz and play scrabble. I love scrabble, but I'd never played it like this and it was a terrific foi...more
I'm a total Scrabble nerd, so the premise of this book really appealed. The beginning was fun and fast-paced, but some of the crackling dialogue slipped through the middle. The chemistry between Calli and Travis is really terrific, but every once in a while details regarding both seemed incongruous. It was almost as though they were too layered with extraneous jobs, responsibilities, desires to change, etc. Let the plot and little details play out their facets. But gotta love a hero attached to...more
This book started off with a bang, an explosion of words, a literal smorgasbord! Calli & Travis meet online in an Scrabble chat room. The opening scene is amazing and will completely suck you in with its wit, heat and hilarity. You will stay engaged as Travis tries to find Calli in the real world and goofs it up with a case of mistaken identity. He quickly corrects his course and finds her, but that's when the book began to veer off for me.

Excellent start... Loved this story from page 1. It's funny, sexy, steamy, and the lead character are very likable. I saw the ending hero moment coming from the beginning, which isn't a bad thing if you like what you see on the horizon. Had a couple of issues where the action seemed contrived to draw out the story (especially after the hero moment), but on the whole, this was a very enjoyable read, and I'll look for more from Karla Doyle.
I read this in one sitting. Calli and Travis are nice people - people you'd want to know - smart, funny and flawed. They have wonderful chemistry from the beginning through their online game chat before they ever meet in person. I appreciated that when Calli's problem is revealed, Travis has a moment of "Can I deal with this?" and they have to work for their HEA. Great story. Fun, sexy and sweet.
For me personally, More Than Words was really boring. The plot was good and interesting. The characters were well thought out and a little relatable. I, however, was expecting amazing sex scenes and that is what I didn't get. Sorry but for me, it was boring and lame. Although, they did make Scrabble Truth or Dare sound do much fun!!
I'm never disappointed with a Karla Doyle book. This one was a page-turner, with a hero so sweet and sexy you want to reach into the page and drag in out into the real world. This one is definitely one you'll find yourself reading more than once, and enjoying it as much the second time around.
