So ambivalent on this guy. This was my second time through his ouvre. He has promise moment to moment, but overall seems unable to separate the crap from the gold. Erasing that division could be an interesting endeavor, but he loses any aesthetic discretion at some point. At the same time, I like this kind of radical, indiscriminate attitude--I just don't think it makes for compelling artistic experience without some juxtaposition or something to contrast it with. Dieter Roth (April 21, 1930 – June 5, 1998) was a Swiss artist best known for his artist's books, editioned prints, sculptures, and works made of found materials, including rotting food stuffs. He was also known as Dieter Rot and Diter Rot.
