Dear Readers,

Recently I purchased the self-published anthology, Once Upon a Ballroom: Original Short Stories and Exclusive Excerpts. I was drawn to this anthology by my interest in Miranda Neville’s story, “The School of Wooing for Inept Book Collectors.” I’ve enjoyed everything I have read by Neville, by which I mean the four books in her Burgundy Club series.

To a lesser degree, I’ve also enjoyed a couple of Ca...more

Free at Smashwords. I'm a Caroline Linden fangirl but hadn't read the other authors in this anthology before.

The Linden story ("The Truth About Love") stands alone (and I don't think is connected to any other series of hers) and was a sweet and understated married couple remains steadfast and committed to one another. It's a romance plot I like, but I can see how it doesn't lend well to a full-length romance novel.

The Ashe story ("Ask Me to Dance") is connected to a series but was very easily re...more

Overall, a cute collection of stories. I've read books by each of these authors, and quite enjoyed most of them, so this anthology was a nice read.

Maya Rodale's story was a bit disappointing, though. It was basically a prologue, of sorts, for the same book that is then previewed. The other three were all complete short stories.

My favorite was Miranda Neville's, and I also quite liked Caroline Linden's. This is definitely worth checking out.

Wonderful anthology.

Ask Me To Dance was easily my favourite of the lot. This could have easily been a full length novel. It was amazing.

I was a little confused as to why Annabelle and Mr Knightly featured in the novella by Maya Rodale as they are the hero and heroine of her upcoming full length novel, but I enjoyed it regardless.

5/5 for the anthology and 5/5 for each of the individual novellas.

It was marginally okay to read some of the excerpts, and confirmed that they should be added to my Wish List, however all in all, I'd much rather read a quick short story or Novella to hook me into an author.

On balance based on the above observation about being"hooked in" I think a 2 star rating is appropriate.

I enjoyed this collection of short historical romance stories. They are shorts features supporting characters from the authors other books. I now can't wait to read Seducing Mr. Knightly by Maya Rodale.

I especially liked Ask me to Dance by Katherine Ashe but thought it was way too short.

This is an anthology of short stories and excerpts as the title indicates. I felt that only one of the short stories had enough meat to stand on its own, but it was free and a great way for authors to generate interest in their new and upcoming releases.

The purpose of this book seems to be to promote the four authors who contributed to it, so a chunk of it was excerpts of full-length novels. But the short stories included were fast and fun, and it's going in the keeper folder on my Kindle :-)

Each of the short stories were ok, but half the book is excerpts .. some books that I already read..and I don't read excerpts for books I haven't read. Still a worthwhile read when between books.

Really liked this anthology of regency romance. Extra bonus was it was a free ebook for the Kindle at amazon.

Very quick short stories...some I wished was longer others were the right length

Four short, fun stories from a quartet of very talented writers. Certainly worth your 99 cents on Kindle!

The stories were super short, but I loved some of them, so two stars.

Nice little anthology. Cute stories that connect to other books by the authors. I enjoyed it.

This was a free book I read on my kindle. It was just alright. Not all the stories were actually set in ballrooms and some were even so short I couldn't get a gist of what was going on between the characters. Some of the short stories were pretty good though, so I did end up finishing it.
