Vampire Nick Christos might’ve been born in the Middle Ages, but the good old days seem tame compared to the last eight years he’s spent ruling the Supernatural Council. His only respite is with his cute neighbor Casey Meyers, a woman he wants more than any undead man should. Sure, he's forced to take a cold shower after every encounter, but there’s no way he’ll test his o...more

Take it Like a Vamp is a sweet romance with a little paranormal and spice mixed in.

Casey is not very lucky in the romance department. Every man she’s dated in the last few months has turned out to be a loser. What she’d really like is to find someone like her best friend and neighbor, Nick. He’s sweet, thoughtful, and gorgeous. Only trouble is, she doesn’t think he’d be interested in her. His normal date is the anorexic, tall, blond model type and Casey is anything but. This doesn’t st...more

I loved, loved, loved this book! It was a fun, quick read which I had a lot of trouble putting down.
It was filled with interesting and entertaining characters which were incredibly hard not to fall in love with (and a few in hate with), and it left me totally wanting more.

With characters like the totally hot (although a little dumb in the girlfriend department, at times) Nick – who I may love just a...more

Take one extremely Alpha male billionaire with a secret. Add one insecure woman who seems to attract losers. Both crushing on the other while remaining determined to keep the friendship they have developed. Nick is overly protective, addicted to Casey and yet determined not to complicate her life for her own good, of course. Casey is a REAL woman who thinks because she is not a skinny, flat-chested 'Barbie' that Nick usually dates, that she is overweight and sub-par as a woman. In reality, she c...more

What do Vampires and I have in common…dominant alpha forces of nature! Vampires are supposed to be dominant alpha forces of nature and I love to read about dominant alpha forces of nature.

So you can imagine my utter frustration with Nick, who has lived for centuries and yet vacillates on his opinions, stands by and watches while Casey dates losers and says nothing to contradict her when she bad talks her plus size body. Seriously, I am 40lbs heavier than I want to be, but I am damn sexy and I wo...more

If I could go 3 1/2 stars, I would. :)

I seem to be on a fun fast romantic read quick lately, which is all good with me. I love my romance. Especially when there is a vampire involved.

I am having trouble coming up with my overall thoughts on this book and I am not sure why. I liked the story. I really did. I think it might be that to me, a couple of the conversations felt forced, not natural. I don’t know, they didn’t flow naturally like the rest of the book did.
That is what bumped it down from a...more

Oh this book seems to be to have the best of all the paranormal worlds in it. There are vampires, werewolves, witches, and who knows what else might pop up during the story. There were some parts of the story where it was almost overwhelming the different characters and creatures that were out there. But, like I said, there were only parts like that.
Casey’s character was hilarious at times; her sense of humor was off the charts funny. Nick’s character was very serious, which I think was a grea...more

I really enjoyed this story and apart for a few little niggles, it's everything I like in a paranormal romance.

I loved the hero - he was strong, confident, cherished the heroine and was sexy as all get out. The heroine was really likable but after half way mark, I got a bit annoyed with the constant irrational insecurities and hang ups she had about her body. Especially with all the compliments coming her way all the time.
That was really the only reason I deducted the star - I dislike such low...more

HE LIVES NEXT DOOR, AND HE'S A VAMPIRE

Nick Christos has been around for 800 years. In all that time no one has got under his skin like his sexy neighbour Casey Meyers.
But being a vampire prevents him from getting to close to Casey who is human. He's taken more cold showers since he met Casey than he would care to remember.

Casey has no clue that Nick has it bad for her. Her history with men is disastrous. Besides she has seen the super model types that he usually has on his arm why would he look...more

ARC supplied by Netgalley.
Sometimes you want a solid, in depth read, and then sometimes some humour and romance is what you need. That's how I felt after finishing a fantasy trilogy recently, so Take it Like a Vamp was just perfect. Candace is an author new to me but the book description sounded fun and as I found out it was spot on. A cast of great characters, Aunt Teddy (formerly Uncle Teddy!) who lent Casey her apartment while she was abroad, Casey – who's s...more

I devoured this fun, sexy, paranormal romance! This story was really refreshing and pleasantly surprised me. Take It Like A Vamp is a friends to lovers romance with some paranormal elements. It felt more like a good romantic comedy than your typical paranormal romance. I really enjoyed the characters. Nick is the hot, sexy neighbor who turns out to be a...more

This was a really fun quick Paranormal Romance that I really enjoyed. Nick has been alive for 800 years but he's never felt alive like he does now that he's met Casey. For the last nine months Nick has been able to keep his feeling hidden from Casey and remain friends. Casey doesn't have much family left so when she moved in with her aunt and found someone she cared about more than any other, but Nick would only ever be a friend and she excepted that. When Nick asks Casey out to a dinner as a fa...more

I enjoyed this book. I was expecting more “paranormal” happenings in this book, but I was not disappointed. I categorized this book as a contemporary romance sprinkled with some paranormal spices.

This book was very easy to read. I loved the humorous tone in the writing of Candace Havens. Many times I found myself laughing out loud. Below are a few memorable moments from the book that made me laugh out lo...more

So I was up late one night this week combing through the online catalog at Entangled Publishing.com. I came across a book called Take it Like it Vamp. It is by author Candace Havens who is local, to my neck of the woods, Dallas, Texas. I like to support local authors so I decided to read the synopsis. I thought this book has everything I am looking for: quick and fun read, takes place where I live, full of romance, and of course had vampires. After reading Take it Like a Vamp it started out real...more

When is a paranormal story not a paranormal story? This is one of those times. I would define Take it Like a Vamp as a romance with Paranormal elements. Yes the world building comprises life as we know it peopled with Vampires, Werewolves, Witches carting demon hordes with them and the usual para-paraphernalia. And a Transexual Uncle/Aunt. But really the book is about two people who are best friends who fall in love.

Nick Christos just happens to be gorgeous, incredibly rich and the leader of the...more

Nick and Casey have been best friends since she had moved in to her Aunt Teddie's high rise apartment. Unfortunately, that's the problem. She wants more, and feels she can't compete with the model-like women parading in and out of Nick's apartment. Nick, can't stand the men that Casey's been seeing, and wishes for more, too. The problem for him was she had no idea how dangerous his life really was.

As the head honcho of the council, Nick has enemies in around every corner. When he asked Casey to...more

I have to admit, The Twilight Series got me into loving vampire books. But then I got into a more adult version of them, and I am constantly looking for authors who can add a bit of grown-up thoughts to the storyline.
Take it Like a Vamp was one of those stories.
The story deals with a Vampire named Nick who is head of the ruling Council. He has held that position for 200 years, and because of that time, he is needing to now find a wife to prove that he is stable. Everyone is constantly trying to...more

If you follow my reviews (but really why would you?) you'd know last week I read Deceiving the Witch Next Door by Melissa Bourbon Ramirez and was incredibly disappointed at how the book turned out. I blamed Ms Ramirez until I read Tall, Dark and Divine by Jenna Bennett which was also rather bad.
At this point I thought it I was just unlucky or maybe Entangled's new line (Covet) full of paranormal romance wasn't going to be the awesomeness I wanted.

Then I read Take it Like a Vamp. Unlike Jenna Ben...more

First thought when Finished: What a deliciously fun read for a hot scorching afternoon! :)

What I thought of the Characters: I loved the characters in Take it Like a Vamp! Nick was the smoldering hottie that we, aka me, wished really did live next door. He is kind, sweet, protective, and a little over-bearing at times (every good alpha is *sigh*). Casey, to me, is who stole the show though. She was talented, smart, and get th...more

Cassie Meyers lately has a run of bad men in her life, complete losers. She wishes for a man like her neighbor Nick. Nick has become Cassie's best friend but he's rich, has beautiful woman swarming him and is the ruler of the Supernatural Council.

Nick thinks Cassie is the perfect woman but he doesn't want to pull her into his dangerous world. One mistake and his feelings for Cassie are exposed, creating a bullseye on Cassie for all his enemies. The choice of keeping Cassie close is taken away wh...more

I really liked these characters! You know, reading paranormal romance there's a certain amount of head douche that has to go into the mythology so you're not comparing to every other story you've read. Once you get past that, enjoy! We've got a strong, mousy-but-beautiful, witty, independent female with self-esteem issues and a wealthy, drop-dead eye-candy supernatural guy (don't wanna give away the storyline explaining exactly what he is) who first become friends with no one the wiser. Prelim Review: Dear Candace, I have one simple wish--please make a book about Linc and please find some way to have Kris Holden-Reid model as him for said book somehow someway in the promo material because Linc owned my heart. Love, Me.

This is one of the more fun paranormal romances I've read in a while. The world building is a bit iffy and seemed more arbitrary then firmly set (the Council for one seemed to have some weird laws--if the Council leader had to be married after 200 years in office,...more

Casey seems to be an A-hole magnet when it comes to dating when the man she really would love to date is her best friend and neighbor Nick. Nick has it bad for Casey and it kills him every time she goes out with and gets hurt by some loser but the last thing he wants to do is hurt her himself and as a vampire he could hurt her physically as well as emotionally.

Ms. Havens writes a funny, sexy and at wild relationship between Casey and Nick and creates her own version of the vampire/paranormal wo...more

Take it like a Vamp was a surprise to me when I first started reading it; a can’t-put-it-down sort of surprise. Giving this wonderful supernatural tale 4 ½ stars, Candace Havens does an excellent job of incorporating vampires, humans, Councils, long-standing traditions, demons, a witch, werewolves, stylishly domineering men, and one insanely strong and feisty woman into a whirlwind of steamy emotions and life or death situations.
I couldn’t help but to admire Casey and her tenacity as well as her...more

This is a fun light romance that is a mix of Harlequin Presents meets paranormal. We have a billionaire neighbor and all the fantasy that comes with being courted by a billionaire but he is a vampire and the heroine does not know about this world. The heroine is a curvy girl and funny. This is a friends to lovers story and has all that charm. I do hope the writer keeps going with this world as a series as it has promise and Linc the biker werewolf will be a fun hero.

I had the pleasure of reading this book as an ARC copy. I was asked to give an honest review. I was not sure if I was going to like this book - I mean I loved Twilight, but I usually don't go for vampire love stories. Keeping that in mind I decided to be open minded and sink ( no pun intended) my teeth into it. I have to say that I loved it. It was a fun story that held my interest. Behind the whole vampire thing is a sweet love story. Nick is an 800 year old vampire who has finally found his "T...more

Review to come. I kinda liked this book....!!!

Okay review time. This book had some hilarious lines, the love story is kind of already there. Two neighbors that have lusted/loved each other since they've met. Nick is the hot next door neighbor who's secretly a vamp, and Casey is the low self esteem adult orphan that moved in with her one time uncle who is now her aunt. It's quick and they are instantly in love because they've known each other for a while already. Nick tries to hide the fact that...more

Take It Like a Vamp by Candace Havens was a book I really enjoyed! I had to put this one down to go to work and I was just itching to get back to reading. This is just a totally fun book.

Casey was one of my favorite heroines in a book in a long time. She was so genuine and all around just really nice and funny. I also really liked Linc - he was such a hoot and was forever making me laugh.

I was sad this one ended. I felt like there was a lot more story to be told and really wanted to kn...more

Take It Like a Vamp is different; it's chick-lit in disguise and PNR that predominantly lacks the dark themes characteristic of its genre. More often, I find myself surprised with the mere mention of Nick Christos' werewolf/vampire nature - and it's because the novel was written in such a way that could very well be considered as contemporary fiction.

Nick Christos was a werewolf turned vampire (or is it the other way around?). He doesn't melt under the glare of the sun. He doesn't need that muc...more
