I loved, loved, loved this book! It was a fun, quick read which I had a lot of trouble putting down.
It was filled with interesting and entertaining characters which were incredibly hard not to fall in love with (and a few in hate with), and it left me totally wanting more.

I seem to be on a fun fast romantic read quick lately, which is all good with me. I love my romance. Especially when there is a vampire involved.

I am having trouble coming up with my overall thoughts on this book and I am not sure why. I liked the story. I really did. I think it might be that to me, a couple of the conversations felt forced, not natural. I don’t know, they didn’t flow naturally like the rest of the book did.

Oh this book seems to be to have the best of all the paranormal worlds in it. There are vampires, werewolves, witches, and who knows what else might pop up during the story. There were some parts of the story where it was almost overwhelming the different characters and creatures that were out there. But, like I said, there were only parts like that.

I really enjoyed this story and apart for a few little niggles, it's everything I like in a paranormal romance.

I loved the hero - he was strong, confident, cherished the heroine and was sexy as all get out. The heroine was really likable but after half way mark, I got a bit annoyed with the constant irrational insecurities and hang ups she had about her body. Especially with all the compliments coming her way all the time.

Sometimes you want a solid, in depth read, and then sometimes some humour and romance is what you need.That's how I felt after finishing a fantasy trilogy recently, so Take it Like a Vamp was just perfect. Candace is an author new to me but the book description sounded fun and as I found out it was spot on. A cast of great characters, Aunt Teddy (formerly Uncle Teddy!) who lent Casey her apartment while she was abroad, Casey – who's so much like most of us, always feeling a bit overshadowed by the “beautiful” people and worrying about our weight and appearance. Nick, ah delicious Nick, Casey's friend and neighbour, and object of her inner crush. Casey thinks he's one of the “beautiful” and wouldn't look twice at her and is (reasonably) content to enjoy his friendship and dream about him in secret. Nick, he's secretly in love with Casey, though he hasn't realised yet its more than simple lust on his part. He promised Aunt Teddy he'd look after Casey and tries to keep his feelings back, not wanting to bring her into his dangerous and deadly world. The humour when Nick is faced with situations such as Casey's towel drop, or when she's sensually sucking on food! It's just great and really brought out the smiles. He's rushing back to hide his fangs and “other” obvious give-aways, and Casey thinks he's rushing away as she's embarrassed him for other reasons. That's how the scene goes until the fateful evening Nick decides to take her to an evening event he has to attend. After his supernatural pals have finished primping and dressing Casey he feels the attraction more than ever – and feels incredibly jealous when its clear others feel that way too. Then Casey meets The Chipmunk – having grand-kids who adore Alvin this made me laugh straight away! Alvina can see Nick is very taken with Casey, and the green eyed monster creeps in. There follows tales of death threats, destruction, demon attacks, along with trips abroad to meet other people, and a most gorgeous Greek retreat....
A fabulous cast of characters as I've said, a story that flips from danger to humour very quickly, and a real romantic, sexual tension novel. There isn't in-your-face sex, but lots of attraction that simmers and steams on the pages (well...epages anyway!) Who wouldn’t love Nick, the man looks like a god, has such a gentle loving nature along with an incredibly protective streak, able to pull out all the danger stops when necessary and rich too! And Casey just finds it so hard to believe that someone like this can fall in love with someone like her. She doesn't see herself as Nick and many others do.
A great story, thoroughly enjoyed and just what I needed after a solid read, something romantic, humorous and light-hearted that didn't need intense concentration. Its the sort of novel you can put down and pick up later – if you're the sort of person who can do that of course, I'm not! and devoured this in one afternoon's read.
Well edited and written, decent value at £2.36 for 174 pages, and one I’d happily read again when I want something light to entertain my brain.
Stars: not quite five but close, a solid four and a half.

Till an enemy from Nicks past resurfaces and makes it known they are not happy with Casey in Nicks life. And to make matters worse Nick has been told in order to keep his place of statue in the supernatural world he must marry. Nick knows there can never be anyone else but Casey and with her in danger Nick will do anything to keep her safe. The quick change in Nick and Casey's relationship has her both happy and in a whirl win. Casey never thought she would be able to have the man of her dreams but she knows Nick is hiding something from her and she knows its big.

When Nick finally tells Cassie his secret Casey and Nick think they can finally move forward but enemies want not only Nick dead but Casey as well, and Nick is still holding something back for fear of loosing Casey, what Nick doesn't know is that his holding back is worse than any secret he could keep. I really really liked this book it was such a great read that I read it entirely to fast. Nick was an amazing hero, he loved Casey with everything he had and was willing to do anything and everything to keep her, and when he thought he may loose her he went crazy with fear. Nick was possessive and demanding and all consuming and I loved every minute of him. All he did was for Casey and all of his mistakes were made trying to protect Casey. Casey loved Nick unconditionally and wanted him no matter what. Candace Havens also wrote great side characters that were funny and just as charming as Nick, and I hope they all get their own stories soon. The background and world building were also an added bonus in this story that just added another element in this book that helped create a great book.

So I was up late one night this week combing through the online catalog at Entangled Publishing.com. I came across a book called Take it Like it Vamp. After reading Take it Like a Vamp it started out really good but fell out in the end.

Now I love cheesy, cutesy romances of all subgenres but Take it Like a Vamp is too cheesy even for me and I will explain. So it starts with my favorite kind of heroine: the shy and over weight wallflower looking for that right man to see the strong confident woman she has been hiding away and help bring her to the surface. Maybe it's because I am a shy plus size girl but I have always had a soft spot for wallflower especially overweight wallflowers. The beginning of the book does not disappoint. Nick has the hots for his best friend and needs a date to a party. So he invites Casey to be his date and since it's a black tie event he pays for her dress and to get dolled up. Casey feels like Cinderella and they really start to notice they have feelings for each other while dancing at the party. Just one problem Nick is a vampire and his life is dangerous due to his evil witch ex wife, literally, she is a witch.

As the story continues Nick decides he doesn't want to live with out Casey and has to convince her he is in love with her. Here is the part that gets on nerves, Casey is insecure about her weight and just can not believe a rich handsome man like Nick would want to be with her. She can't accept the compliments even though it seems like every man in the book including Nick tells her how beautiful she is. I mean come on girl gain a little self confidence. Nick is insecure too though because he feels like once Casey learns the truth about what he is and how dangerous his life is she will not want to be with him anymore.

One night he whisks Casey off to a romantic getaway to tell her the truth because he decides he should if he wants to propose marriage to Casey. She runs out of the room and goes to take a walk to clear her head. Nick starts in on the mopey vampire thing. As I was reading, I was like come on give the girl a break before you start in on the how will I ever live with out her talk. I mean unless your girlfriend is Bella most women need a minute to come around to the fact that their boyfriend is a vampire and his ex wife is out to kill her.

They decide to get married in the end and his ex makes an appearance on the honeymoon by trying to possess the bride. Nick holds her hand and cries while Casey tries to fight the possession. I mean I understand by this point most of the book is already cheesy but it takes the cake on this scene. Nick whispers how strong she is how she needs to fight the witch. With a few "Bitch get out of my head" lines and a strong will Casey defeats the witch and pushes her out of her body. I mean I would have liked a little more there maybe a potion or two. I get that is where Casey is supposed to start gaining confidence there because she fights the witch all by herself while Nick tells her to fight but I don't it just felt rushed like it could have been better explained in my opinion.

In conclusion I thought this book was like an untied balloon, full of potential but deflates in the end. I give Take it Like a Vamp three laser pistols because it was a quick and fast read. The love scenes between Casey and Nick were HOT. I think I just would have liked it a little more if the fight scenes weren't glossed over and maybe had more action and the hero and heroine would have let go of the insecurities earlier in the book to fight the witch together. In my honest opinion I felt like I didn't waste my time and it was a decent not great read.

When is a paranormal story not a paranormal story? This is one of those times. I would define Take it Like a Vamp as a romance with Paranormal elements. The story deals with a Vampire named Nick who is head of the ruling Council. He has held that position for 200 years, and because of that time, he is needing to now find a wife to prove that he is stable. Everyone is constantly trying to set him up with someone and no luck with those efforts.
Casey came to live with her aunt after her parents passed away. Her aunt was constantly traveling, so even though her aunt wanted her to move in with her, she was never there.
On a night that Casey was upset, Nick used that as a reason to start his friendship with her. They spent time together, hung out whenever they got the chance, and Nick was her shoulder to cry on whenever she had a bad date or a relationship failed. They could be themselves with each other, but Nick was still holding back his secret.
When Nick realized that he needed to make an appearance at a Council party, he asks Casey to accompany him and this is where the story begins. The twists and turns in the story all lead up to Nick needing to be completely honest with Casey and hope she doesn't run screaming.

Casey and Nick were both characters I enjoyed. The friendship the two shared is what relationships are built on. And as the story progressed, you get to learn what lengths Nick went to just to make Casey happy even before he realized that he was in love with her.
The downfall to the story was the constant negativity Casey had for herself. I can't see it as an issue for the storyline because after so many failed relationships for Casey, I can truly understand how she can feel that way. I just felt for her.
With Nick in need of finding a bride, and Casey just wanting to be loved, the tension between the two is crazy. When Nick took Casey to the party, there were so many opportunities for things to go wrong. But it still didn't solidify what he needed to do. until he found her "missing."
I can't say things moved to fast because they were FRIENDS before anything. And everyone wants to end up with someone who can be their best friend.
I do hope there is more to the story. There were so many characters that were great additions to the story and would be great to know where Casey and Nick end up. (less)

If you follow my reviews (but really why would you?) you'd know last week I read Deceiving the Witch Next Door by Melissa Bourbon Ramirez and was incredibly disappointed at how the book turned out. I blamed Ms Ramirez until I read Tall, Dark and Divine by Jenna Bennett which was also rather bad.

Casey seems to be an A-hole magnet when it comes to dating when the man she really would love to date is her best friend and neighbor Nick. Take it like a Vamp was a surprise to me when I first started reading it; a can’t-put-it-down sort of surprise. Giving this wonderful supernatural tale 4 ½ stars, Candace Havens does an excellent job of incorporating vampires, humans, Councils, long-standing traditions, demons, a witch, werewolves, stylishly domineering men, and one insanely strong and feisty woman into a whirlwind of steamy emotions and life or death situations.

This is a fun light romance that is a mix of Harlequin Presents meets paranormal. Okay review time. This book had some hilarious lines, the love story is kind of already there. Two neighbors that have lusted/loved each other since they've met. Nick is the hot next door neighbor who's secretly a vamp, and Casey is the low self esteem adult orphan that moved in with her one time uncle who is now her aunt. Take It Like a Vamp by Candace Havens was a book I really enjoyed! I had to put this one down to go to work and I was just itching to get back to reading. This is just a totally fun book.

Casey was one of my favorite heroines in a book in a long time. She was so genuine and all around just really nice and funny. I also really liked Linc - he was such a hoot and was forever making me laugh.

Take It Like a Vamp is different; it's chick-lit in disguise and PNR that predominantly lacks the dark themes characteristic of its genre. More often, I find myself surprised with the mere mention of Nick Christos' werewolf/vampire nature - and it's because the novel was written in such a way that could very well be considered as contemporary fiction.

Nick Christos was a werewolf turned vampire (or is it the other way around?). He doesn't melt under the glare of the sun. He doesn't need that much blood - in fact, he didn't drink because he was thirsty during the entirety of the novel. He drank because Casey Meyers was being possessed by an evil vampire and she needed Nick's blood to fight her. The werewolf, or the beast in him was also er, shy. The point of the matter is, the paranormal element was barely existent and that I thought that it was better off marketed as contemporary romance.

Nick worked too hard to keep a lot of secrets from Casey - which, in retrospect, I truly understand. After all, how often do you find out that the man of your dreams is, in actuality, a vampire? And what's going to stop her from running to the hills? What he didn't anticipate is how easy Casey accepted who he was. Way too freaking easy. The woman has no sense of reality when it counts. She couldn't accept that an Adonis like Nick would actually love her but she readily accepted all the bat-shit craziness that surrounded them with just a tiny bit of hesitation. What I don't get is he kept piling it on; even after Casey's acceptance. It just seemed like it was a ploy to drag the story longer or an attempt to create a conflict when really, there shouldn't be any more.

Casey Meyers tend to abuse herself; and I don't mean she physically hurts herself but her self-deprecation was ramphant. It's hard to digest just what kind of woman she is. In Nick's eyes, she's a va-va-vavoom goddess; through hers, she's a big-boned loser magnet. Sigh. Just once, I would like to read about a confident woman. Someone sure of herself and who hadn't an ounce of hang-ups about her body. Is that too much to ask?

THIS MAKES ME SOUND LIKE A DIRTY READER: Nick was a tease. He held off having sex because he had a case of I don't want to hurt you but I'll give you days of groin pains instead. The sexual chemistry between these two was off the charts but when they finally did the deed, it was...a whole lot of fade-to-black. Boo-urns. I want sex, dammit! Crap. Did I say that out loud?

VERDICT: The banters between characters are fun; the secondary characters even more so. From the transgender Aunt Teddy, to the too-hot-to-be-straight designer, Linc, this book had all the makings of a quirky modern day romance. I enjoyed reading most of this book but with the added paranormal story arc, the result was a very enthusiastic...meh.

This is one of THE BEST vampire love stories I have ever read! Better then 'Twilight' if you ask me.. I know that's a huge statement but that's how I feel about this one after reading it!! I mean the relationship between Casey and Nick is so intense, pure, funny and insainly cute! Plus there is some freaking hot sex in this story.. lol

Casey is a real tough cookie, she even scares off werewolfs and vampires..lol I'm gonna be simple.. read the blurb, if you like that then you're gonna freaking LO...more
