How the muffins did S.M. Boyce come out with Ourea? Seriously, I can't contain myself from gushing how incredibly amazing this place is. It feels so vividly real, but more than that, you can sense the history and greatness of this world. Every single detail of this place, like the creatures, the landscapes, the Bloods of each Yakona race and the Vagabond is what makes it so utterly fantastic.

The first book in the Grimoire Trilogy was a fascinating introduction to the story, but I must admit that...more

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the author for an honest review.)

When we pick up with Kara and Braeden after the events of Lichgates, they are still in the Vagabond's home, and each is personally reeling after sharing their first kiss. Unfortunately that is the last thing they have time to deal with since they still need to fulfill Kara's purpose as a vagabond and find a way to unite all of Ourea.

Kara has found Ourea to be a dangerous place with very few people worthy of her trust, yet s...more

*Disclaimer: I did receive a free ARC to review, however this did not influence the review in any way.*

In Treason, book #2 of the Grimoire trilogy by S.M. Boyce, we once again delve into the magical world of Ourea. Everyone Kara Magari loves ends up dead, so the more she feels for Braeden the more she pushes him away, which frustrates him to no end. Braeden on the other hand believes he’s a dead man walking anyway so it doesn't matter how hard Kara pushes he intends to change her mind. Until all...more

The Grimoire: Treason (My review)

I have nothing but praise for S.M. Boyce’s latest, Treason, the second installment of her Grimoire series. (Take note that I used the word “series” and not “trilogy,” as I’m almost certain she’ll be forced to expand it further than just three books...there’s too much story left to tell! Perhaps I just know that because I’m a writer, but mark my words...the third book will not be the end.) From start to finish, I had nothing but fun. However, it’s not the fact tha...more

All I can say is that S.M Boyce has an amazing talent, this book was the most amazing book I have ever read. You can certainly tell that she has spent many, many hours thinking of this story, and has spent a great about planning it, and all the pieces fall together exactly as they should. Lichgates and Treason had me on edge till the very last page. The magical world of Ourea is so well written that you have a detailed image in your mind of what it might look like. Ourea is beautiful and dark, a...more

WOW! I'm not sure what else to say. Where have these books been? And why has no one been publicizing them like crazy?. I read so much anymore as a member of NetGallery, that it isn't often that a book grabs me and makes me want to read, read, read, read. This book definitely did that. I finished Linchgates and just had to know more so I bought the second book and now I'm counting the days until the third book comes out and then I guess I'll wait another year and wait for the fourth book to come...more

S.M. Boyce's Treason is a great follow up to Lichgates. The characters are developed even more, the story is fleshed out just right, and the pace is perfect.

There are books that you love reading and then there are books that grab you, pull you in and don't let go til you get to the end. This book was definitely the kind to pull you in and hold you captive, which ironically is how some of the main characters spent portions of the book.

The chemistry between Kara and Braeden is so wonderful. The bo...more

Treason is the second book in the Grimoire series. Book one was amazing, and I thought as long as book 2 was on par with the first book, things would be just fine. Treason exceeded my expectations, and I am beginning to think that SM Boyce herself is from Ourea and maybe even a Vagabond herself.

Treason starts right where Litchgates leaves us, and when I read the line that both Kara and Braeden must become the evil each has grown to hate, I was scared. I have grown to love these two. They are rea...more

Earlier this year, I read Lichgates, the first book of the Grimoire trilogy. I liked Lichgates, but Treason is even better!

Treason began where Lichgates ended. However, without having to go through the process of world-building that Lichgates was required to, the story picked up right away. We got to know Kara and Braeden better and witness the ebb and flow of their relationship. S.M. Boyce did a great job of conveying the characters' feelings. I could feel the conflict brewing inside Kara as sh...more

First and foremost, let me just say that to read book two before reading book one would be a terrible mistake. You will miss out on so much! So, read them in order. :)

I love this series. First, because of the originality. It's great to read books that are similar and to compare and contrast them, but it's even better to read books that are unlike anything you have had the pleasure to read.

Second, because of the characters. The romance that heats up between...more

Another incredible adventure by the amazingly talented S.M. Boyce. The story made me crave the need to read book 3 even more. I am now an even bigger Grimoire junkie. Book 1 was stunning, but book 2 was even better. I loved the continued relationship between Kara and Braeden, the new relationships formed with other characters such as the vagabond and Flick, the enchanting world that is Ourea...the entire novel is simply perfect. This series will be the new Bridge to Terabithia.

I was completely c...more

Overview: Reading Lichgates is a requirement before picking up this sequel. The author wastes no time or space reviewing what happens in book one. The writing was less flowery and descriptive than the first book, which is good for speeding up the pace, but bad because I truly love the way S.M. Boyce describes the world she created in her trilogy. Still, this is an excellent continuation to the series and I recommend it to everyone that has read Lichgates. Like the first book, this one is definit...more

I have not loved a book, or a series, as much as I loved reading Treason in a long time. There's something about Boyce's style of writing that makes you fall into her stories and never want to come out. The interplay between Kara, the Bloods, and Braeden was intriguing While I knew it wasn't going to be easy for them to work together, what actual happens is a shock.

I don't even know how to express to you how much I loved this book. Boyce is a master at weaving in twists and using foreshadowing s...more

First, I have to get this out of my system. I began reading this and my only reaction was OHMYGOD! Squee! *dinosaur hand motions* I was in total fangirl mode. Heck, I still am. I love these books. I love the characters. And I love S.M. Boyce. Seriously. I am Boyce's biggest fan and she better realize that. Okay! On to my review!

At first, I thought the beginning started out slow, but as things started picking up speed I realize that it's actually perfect. The book picks up speed so fast that the...more

One word. Wow.

I truly enjoyed the first book. I was really looking forward to reading the second. Don't think of this as a continuation or a sequel. This book stands on its own merit. I can't count the amount of times I laughed or smiled, gritted my teeth or ground my knuckles, put off eating or using the bathroom because I needed to get to the next scene, needed to find out what would happen next, needed to know if everything was going to be alright. I found myself stressed over Kara's conflict...more

I had high hopes for this book when it came to the series, I was so in love with the first book I didn't think that it could get any better, boy was I wrong.

Treason went far beyond my expectations. It was vivid and full of action, with suspense around every corner that kept my eyes glued to the pages as I tried to figure out what was going to happen next.

This roller coaster ride constantly had me sitting back with a stunned look on my face as I tried to figure out the way my mind had been played...more

I downloaded the Kindle edition of Lichgates because I happened across it for free, and it sounded like the kind of book I might enjoy. As I read, I found the the world of Ourea incredibly creative and not quite like any other fantasy I have read. I was quickly drawn into the story of Kara and Braeden. When I finished I knew I was going to buy the next book in the series.

I enjoyed Treason even more than Lichgates. I think the main reason is that a big part of reading the first book was spent wi...more

Firstly I’d like to thank the author for sending me this eBook to read and give an honest review. This is the second book in the Grimoire Trilogy. I was hoping for good things from this because I had really enjoyed the first and I’m pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed – this one was even better! There was plenty of action, weird creatures and magical lands but also more romance this time round and that just made it the perfect read for me.

I quickly fell back into the story and once again was tr...more

I have to say I liked Treason more than I liked Lichgates. While Lichgates had the wonder and discovery of a new world, Treason takes you deeper into the machinations of the Yakona kingdoms. It has a much darker feel, which I love.

You pick up with Kara and Braeden as Kara continues to try to unite the kingdoms and bring peace to Ourea. Unfortunately, everyone else has other plans and most involve using her.

Kara and Braeden's relationship really develops in this and what would The Grimoire Trilog...more

In case you don't know, Lichgates is amazing and basically embodies everything I love about high fantasy. So if you haven't, you should read the review. If you have, then you already know how original and clever it is. Guess what? Treason may even be better. Everything I loved about the first book is here: the strong characters, the super original creatures, the uber-cute and slow-building romance, the adventure, the magic, the pacing. But Treas...more

***Just ahead, slight spoilers if you haven't read Book One! But no spoilers for Book 2.***

Treason picks up where Lichgates leaves off. It still follows Braeden and Kara on their journey for peace in Ourea. But peace is hard to find when all of the Bloods (kings and queens) are fighting, lying, and trying to use the Vagabond, the greatest resource of power available in Ourea, for domination. They don't want peace.
They want power. But, Kara, she will not let anyone use her, so she fights back.

Treason, by S.M. Boyce, is an example of where a second book in a series is even better than the first.

Earlier this year, I read the first of a wonderful fantasy series called The Grimoire Trilogy by S.M. Boyce. The trilogy, which begins with Lichgates, immediately swept me up and sucked me in. So, obviously, I was going to read the second book in the series (and am looking forward to the third).

The second book, Treason, is even better than the first, and that's saying a lot. It's a wonderful t...more

Having read book one , I thought for sure there would be no possible way to top that vivid adventure...atlas I was totally wrong.

I love how this book starts you off slow to progress you into a world of guessing of what's to come next...a ride you never want to end!!
The darkness of this book just has you totally in gross into the whole world that SM Boyce has created, mind boggling!
The original creatures, the characters and their relationships...Just wonderful!!!

This book was sent to me in exchange for a honest and fair review. This book focuses on Kara a vagabond and Braeden Drakonin. The two end up together in the beginning headed to a Gala being held by the Gavin Braeden's brother.

The two both have feelings for each other but spend their time pushing each other away. Gavin even goes so far as forbid Braeden from contact with Kara. What Gavin doesn't know is the power he thinks he has over Braeden isn't as strong as one would think.

Kara is also bein...more

I received an Advanced Review Copy of this book. I was encouraged to write a review. Since I always write reviews this was a win-win for me! Yay!

I absolutely loved the first book in this series. Lichgates The world building is amazing. I’m sure there are others, but the only books that come to mind with better world building in this genre are The Lord of the Rings books. This book picks up with Braedon and Kara back in The Vagabond’s village. They are training and waiting until they need to go t...more

S.M. Boyce has done it again with her second book in the Grimoire Trilogy. TREASON takes the series to the next level with its twists and turns. Boyce takes the reader to the edge and snatches you back again as you tag along Kara’s adventure through Ourea and discover her power alongside her. Boyce proves, with this book, that she has all the tools needed to be a successful storyteller. I eagerly await, HERITAGE, the final book in the trilogy. After reading the first two books, I can’t wait to s...more

S. M. Boyce does it again! As I dived right back in to the magical world of Orea I fell in love with the land and the characters all over again! Treason starts right were Lichgates left off…Braeden and Kara are still in the Vagabonds Village, they are both still thinking about their first kiss, the looming Gala with the Bloods, and Kara is deciding who else she can trust in this beautiful and dangerous world. The action starts...where else?...the Gala where all the Bloods and Heirs are present a...more

After finishing Lichgates, the first in the Grimoire Saga, I was pleased but not quite hooked. I was hoping the second book would have more action, develop the relationships, and draw me more into the magical world of Ourea. I was not disappointed. The writing remained beautiful. "Pearl blue light congealed over her fingers until it formed the shape of a sword" (p.10)-a lovely image. The only complaint I had was that the writer played so much with light imagery that it lost some of its magic. Ne...more

This book was so good! I read this over the holidays so it took me a little longer then I would have liked because well… family and stuff you know? But I finally was able to sit down and devout some time to it on New Years day and well I was so happy I finally got the chance to read it uninterrupted.

The last book was good, but it left me wanting a little bit more. Maybe it was because I am used to more of a ‘romantic’ edge to my books, so I was really excited about where I thought this book mig...more

S.M. Boyce is a fantasy and paranormal fiction novelist who also dabbles in contemporary fiction and comedy. She updates her blog a few times each week so that you have something to wake you up in the morning.

She also has a B.A. in Creative Writing which, naturally, qualifies her to be pompous and serve you french fries.

“We vegabons are a part of this now, and we have a chance to make things better. Maybe we can make the world a little brighter before we die. At least, that’s why I’m here. I’ve always wanted to make people smile. But for the first time in my life, I’m powerful enough to do more. I can help change things. You empowered us, Kara. Don’t give up. The rest of us need you to believe, or we’ll lose faith completely. We may have Grimoires too, but there is only one true Vegabond.” 2 people liked it
