Matt Calvin has watched Gina’s beautiful behind sway up and down the doctor’s office hallway once a month for four long years, and it’s time to do something about his fascination. He’s not relationship material, but he doesn’t expect it to get that far. He just wants to talk to her, man to woman, and put himself out of his misery once and for all....more

I absolutely loved this book!! Matt was so tortured by his past it almost kept him from finding the happiness he deserved with Gina. My only complaint was the abrupt ending!! I soooo needed an amazing epilogue for this beautiful tortured hero. With an epilogue it would have been a 5+ star read for me.

I don't get it. Matt, emotionally fucked up in the head from a lifetime of abuse from his father...well 16 years, but still. Refusing to date, or get close to woman for fear that his genes will make him an abusive monster, meets and basically stalks Gina for 4 years...then after a series of fate throwing up in their face, he is forced close to Gina, where love is found...

When I began reading this I wasn't sure I'd like it. Although I adored Matt and Gina, at times there was something a little off about the writing that never allowed these wonderful characters to reach the zenith of their potential. I found myself nit picking every detail because the story as a whole was not gelling for me. So after reading the first half, I decided to put the book down for a few days.
The second half was much better.
I feel like the tone of the book changed, enabling the sweetnes...more

Oh my goodness! I do believe my Kindle is smoking! More likely, it is just J.M. Madden’s scorching writing. Phew! A Needful Heart was a hot, yet endearing read. Matt is described as a BIG, strong, tattooed man. I couldn’t help but think how yummy he would be, yet intimidating at the same time. Then, you add in the fact that he is a tortured soul and that was it. I melted into a puddle on the floor. What women wouldn’t want him in her arms…to…uh…hug...more

A Needful heart jumps in right away no easing in but then Matt has had the hots for Gina for 4 years. Matt is the type of guy you would see and judge on appearance, tats, huge guy with that don't bother me attitude(which is a shield, just like his damn baseball hat) however he is such a good guy. He has fears and doubts himself a lot (I didn't care for his self-doubt) however you can't help but love him in this book.

Gina is well, she is accident prone and tends to hurt herself which is how Matt...more

Eh... I saw a lot of recommendations for this, but can't say I really liked it all that much.

Well, you have the hero, who's nearly a stalker. (I say nearly, because although he knows where she lives and stares at her during his once a month hospital visits, he hadn't actually progressed to following her around. Yet.) He's also terrified he'll end up like his dad, to the point where he won't have anything to do with relationships, and hardly anything to do with women at all. Yes, he had a terribl...more

A Needful Heart captured my attention from the opening page and this quick read was quite an emotional ride for Matt and Gina and me. While there were some issues with the book, overall it was very enjoyable.

I really wish this author had not pushed the whole development of Matt and Gina's relationship into ONE week, which really stretched the limits of my belief a bit. Now, my husband told me he loved me TWO weeks after we started dating, but we did not have the emotional mine field to navigate...more

I loved this story, is was very sweet. Usually for the heros in the stories I read, I like them to be completely alpha: go for what they want, stand up to everyone, lets his presence be known, domineering, etc. Matt (our hero of the story) was the complete opposite but it went well with his character. He's huge, tall and loaded with the muscles, he's got tattoos up and down both arms and he's always wearing a baseball cap which covers his face. So, he looks pretty scary all ready and for him to...more

After reading many books with alpha, controlling men, it was refreshing to read a story in which the male character is strong, tattooed and vulnerable.

Matt Calvin is such a sweetheart with his 4 year crush on Gina. It made my heart melt to read how this huge, big guy is shy around her.

Gina senses this and finds herself helplessly falling for him. And I'm glad that she does not have a huge baggage of drama with her. Another thing about this book that appealed to me. Oh, and the fact that she te...more

This book just didn't do it for me. For some reason both Matt and Gina seemed really flat to me - I just couldn't really connect at all. Frankly - the whole stalking thing for four years kinda put me off Matt. I know he was messed up from his childhood - but that was a bit over the line for me. I also didn't get the whole falling in love in a week thing - it felt way too rushed for me - and the ending felt really abrupt. I know a lot of people really enjoyed it - but it was a no go for me.

This book was quite the surprise. I initially purchased it because it was on sale for free and I have been reading a lot of paranormal/fantasy books lately and wanted a change. I devoured this book in one sitting.

I really enjoyed the story that Ms. Madden weaved. Matt was such a complex character and I think he was fascinating. Matt's change through this book was amazing to watch. The relationship between Matt and Gina was really well developed. It felt real and the author did a good job showin...more

Oh,this book... Let'a check out this blurb and compare it with the book.

He just wants to talk to her, man to woman, and put himself out of his misery once and for all. Things never go as planned, though, and when fantasy crashes and burns into reality, Gina pays the price.

What actually happened-Matt is a carpenter who saw Gina like 4 years ago and he couldn't stop looking at her so he often goes to the hospital where she works just to see her. Stalker much? He grows some balls and suddenly appea...more

Touching spin on childhood abuse.

Most men that were physically abused as children sadly grow up to continue the cycle or like in most suspense books become a serial killer. Neither of those things happen with the hero Matt Calvin. Matt is a very large gruff and surly man who scares most who come in contact with him. What they don’t know is he is the scared one and has no idea how to have a relationship with either a woman or another person.

He’s done alright in his life after his abusive childh...more

Beautiful love story, wish it were longer. Matt is described a as pretty scary looking guy, but he has such a gentle loving soul. Matt was afraid that his childhood demons were just lurking in the foreground waiting to rear it's ugly head at any moment. This kept him from forming any kind of bond with the opposite sex. Matt never had a normal relationship with a woman but for four years he was secretly pining for some kind of connection with Gina. Gina just like others was put off by Matt's impo...more

What made my buy this book was the cover and the blurb. I felt like the story would be angsty and sexy and that was what I was in the mood for. If you put aside the fact that Matt watched Gina from afar for 4 years, it's a very sweet story.

I know that Matt's behavior will come off as stalkerish but I thought it was sweet. He didn't have the courage to approach Gina when he first saw her at the fair 4 years ago so he decided that seeing her once a month when he took his friend George in for treat...more

A Sweet Hot Story

I liked this story - A LOT. This is a sweet story about a quiet, broken man who leads a simple life, and has never really been interested in women until Gina.

For the past 4 years, Matt sees Gina every month when he takes his neighbor to his doctor appointment. All he wants to do is talk to Gina, the one woman who invades his thoughts constantly. But the day he actually finds the courage to talk to her, he inadvertently knocks her over setting off a chain of events that force th...more

Still reading but made myself stop so I have something to look forward to later after I have cleaned for a while. This book SUCKED ME IN right away - it's the 5th book I've started this week, but the only one I couldn't put down. I still need to go back and finish the others. I hate to give stars until I finish reading because I might change my mind. But right now - I LOVE it! Reminds me of Beautiful Disaster, which I REALLY loved. These seem like real characters who could live in my town. (I am...more

This book has no introduction. It just jumps right in. Once I got into the book (which DID NOT take long) I was drawn to Matt IMMEDIATELY. He is so one of those TALL, HANDSOME, and MYSTERIOUS types of guys. I just wanted to know more about him. Why is he such a loner? What happened to him as a kid? HOW did he become so sweet and caring? Gina the female lead is an all around SWEETHEART, She is caring, kind, giving, and thoughtful. She’s every guys a dream. I found myself so involved emotionally w...more

This book surpassed any ideas as to what I thought it would be like. I will be perfectly honest and say that I wasn't sure about reading this book because it didn't seem like my normal type of book. But I love J.M. Madden's "Lost and Found" series so I figured I would give this book a shot, and let me say this I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!

There are many books out there where the female is an abuse survivor, but there are few that have the male is the abuse survivor. However, J.M. made this book an a...more

Matt has been bringing his neighbor and friend George to the doctors for his follow up liver transplant visits. Gina works for the office and when they collide, she falls breaking her wrist. Matt, feels horrible and responsible for her injury because he was going to finally break down and talk to her. He’s been interested in her for a while but because of things from his past, he doesn’t feel he could be the best person for Gina. I hate to rain on someone's parade, but I was disappointed with this book. I don't want to be a spoiler and reveal the story, therefore, I'll just point out my main problem without giving up too much.

I skimmed more than half the book simply because I could not suspend my disbelief in order to enjoy it. One of the main things about the lead characters is that they have to be credible. While the plot was very simple, Matt's character was overdone and unrealistic and in need of some major toning do...more

WOW! this book was a surprise for sure. I picked this up as a freebie last week and was not expecting much from it at all. But it was great. The story catches you right from the beginning, and you really get to love both the Hero and heroine. I won't give anyt spoilers but if you like stories with a Hero with a bad past and a heroine who is funny and likeable then you'll enjoy this as much as I did!
Would definitely pay the $4 for it if I had not gotten it for free and will watch out for future w...more

A Needful Heart was an enjoyable and interesting read. If you approach this book as more than simply a romance novel but as a foundation for a discussion of the long term effects of child abuse, it is very interesting. I appreciated how the author had two characters dealing with abuse, one currently enduring it - Gabe, and one living with the long term damage that it causes - Matt. Many times in fiction the victim is female and the effects of abuse are easily recognizable and understandable. In...more

A really good love story with a little bit of a twist and a few hot scenes. There are a some heart wrenching bits and you want to just give him a shake but on the whole a good story with likeable characters. Gina and Matt are very loveable and you feel their heartache right there with them.
My only criticism is that there is a lot of phrase repetition, for a long moment is said on a number occasions but its still a really good book.
But I would really like to know if their love survived his issu...more

What a great book! The story was told by both of the mc's Gina and Matt... I loved Matt, and Gina! Normally I will love the guy in the book but there is always something about the woman that annoys me but not Gina, she was awesome so that is pretty cool. Good story and did I mention Matt was HOT! Damaged from his past, yes... but HOT! and there were some pretty hot scenes between the two of them, but even without the steamy scenes it was a touching story!

Picked up the book based on Amazon recommendation. Characters well developed and I found myself searching for other books with characters who have overcome the experience of foster care and lack of family support. I so wanted this book to be of longer length! I'd love to see the author write additional books with the hero overcoming a challenging circumstances and has is less experienced that the heroine.

The overall rating for me was 4 stars. The characters were deep and there was many parts of the book where the reader felt in depth emotion. However the ending killed it for me there was no closure and I don't know if there will be another. I don't mind in some novels if there is an open ending but this was far from that way. That's why I gave 3. I would have read it anyways the book was worth it.

I don't like to talk about myself so this will be short and sweet.

I am a wife and mother of two. I currently stay home to take care of the farm and family, which I love. I was a deputy sheriff in Ohio for nine years, and I found myself tapping that experience as I wrote Second Time Around. No, I didn't tackle and cuff my husband, although there was that time in K-mart... Anyway, it was quite a cha...more
