Seventeen-year-old Baltimore Land just wants to be normal, but magic has other plans.

I don’t consider myself a witch, that's my parents' thing. I've never really believed in magic either. Sure, I tried it a few times. Fell for the whole “magic happens” thing. But it didn’t happen to me. No amount of rhyming stopped my parents from moving me halfway across the country. Not...more

Amazing. I picked up “Elemental” only intending to read a few chapters. Well fast forward to two hours later and I was still reading! It was impossible to put down! I loved the characters, but really it was the unpredictable and unique plot twists and turns that really kept my attention. I mean, when she did that thing to Kara I was hooked. Very creepy. I liked that it was about her finding her true identity and her path in life, but also dealing with more than the average teenager would have to...more

This has got to be one of the better Indie books I’ve read in a long time. Of course I have no way of knowing this for sure, but it seems like the author really took her time with it, developing the storylines and the characters and also with the wonderful editing. I don’t think I noticed any mistakes. Many indie books feel rushed, which I’m willing to overlook if the story is good, but it’s doubly nice to come across one that is so polished and professional, and has an INCREDIBLE storyline! Finally, a Young adult book that sounds like how REAL teenagers talk and act! I’m so tired of reading these so called YA novels that have distinctly adult voices and are written in a way that a grown woman “wishes” teens would speak and act. Everything flowed so smoothly, and I was entirely caught up in this interesting story from the very beginning pages. It has a great hook, and you just want to keep on reading. Even through there are a lot of different sub-plots, I was never confused as the a...more

This novel was quite an enjoyable read. It was tactfully written in the first person without repeatedly flipping tenses or person. Noel also combines the world of Wicca with a great many unique ideas in order to create a world that you want to get to know better. The novel contains a fair amount of narrative that builds up this world. It is quite brilliant the way Noel sets this world up. The vibrant descriptions that she employs round this all out to make the whole world shine.

The characters i...more

I really enjoyed “Elemental” by Kelbian Noel, and think it is a great start to a promising new series. The author has a great knack for witty dialogue and for “keeping it real”. Nothing felt contrived or put in for the sake of creating drama. The story was quite organic in that sense. There were a few questions I had, things I wondered about, but I can’t really say anything without revealing spoilers so I’ll just say that it was a very satisfying read…I wish some parts would have had more detail...more

"Elemental” by Kelbian Noel caught me so completely off guard. I admit I’m not all that easily impressed these days, especially with the formulaic YA paranormal scene. But I was genuinely impressed with the great writing, the unpredictable plot that kept me constantly guessing (and surprised!) and the fast pace that made me want to keep turning the pages as fast as I possibly could. If I have one complaint, it would HAVE to be over the horribly cheesy name. Baltimore Mary Land? With a brother na...more

I read this book in one sitting, It was that good! So easy to read and follow along, but there were so many things that kept happening that were, well, some were creepy (Kara showing up), and others were just surreal, and some was just downright cool! I loved how Baltimore evolved, at first resisting her true self, then realizing what was going on. Kelbian Noel is a welcome addition to an increasingly stale genre and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next! “Sprung”, Elementals #2 is alr...more

"Elemental” is the first novel I’ve read by Kelbian Noel but it sure won’t be the last. I loved this book! It has everything I love…the “real” world mixed with believable paranormal/supernatural activity (not an easy thing to pull off), a great teen “voice” from Baltimore and her friends, believable character development, suspense, tension, mythology that can also be ‘real’…I could go on and on, but I will say that I didn’t think the synopsis really did this book justice…not that it is bad, it’s...more

Wow, I LOVED this book! It was so unexpectedly amazing! Even though YA books about a girl with supernatural powers are a dime a dozen these days, I thought this one really stood out as feeling original and unique. I Loved Ms. Noel’s “voice” and thought the dialogue with her and her BFF Bridgett was great. They had me cracking up and reminded me of me and my BFF. I couldn’t put this down until I was all done, and I was excited to see that the series continues, but it seems like it is with differe...more

I truly enjoyed this story. Noel is a talented writer and that shines through every word in her story. I couldn't put Elemental down.

I love a great story. But building a story takes time and a few chapters, so what brings me in to any book is the characters and Noel hooked me from the start where they are concerned. They were real to life and I could hear and see them as I read. Funny enough, although the MC is who most people like connecting with, I tend to find other characters to la...more

ELEMENTAL starts off slow and builds. The easy family camaraderie reminds me of L.A. Bank's SHADOW WALKER but without the intense show of magic from beginning to end. Elemental is primarily the story of a young teen named Baltimore who's a powerful witch that doesn't believe she's a witch. The plot line and the setting are interesting. Set in frozen Utah it certainly brings a unique viewpoint to the table. I enjoyed watching Baltimore build her powers and the initial romance with Toby (before th...more

This was a fun read. I like that its about a teenager who actually talks like a teenager. A nice girl, not one of those annoying know-it-all teens as so many can be. *wink*

It's about a young girl who comes from a family of witches but never believed in it until she accidentally cast a spell. She feels bad about it and wants to right the situation. In doing so she learns about her family history and involvement in the Wiccan ways. It had action, suspense, romance, humor.

I feel like the story is...more

Roots (formerly Elemental) has just been re-released! The second edition is packed with more action, more romance and WAY more magic! It was a blast rewriting this with a brand new direction. I believe fans of the first edition will be satisfied. Old characters remain (some with more face-time) and new ones are introduced, just in time for the release of book two!
