I am a big fan of Todd's work, and I went into That Ghoul Ava, knowing the backstory, the style of writing to expect, and I was not disappointed. I laughed in places and had chills in others.
With Ava Todd has introduced the world to a new undead character that could be just at home within his wittily written stories as she would be in a more hardcore, out and out horror story with blood and guts galore.

I must first apologize to one of my favorite authors, T.W. Brown, for not getting this reviewed sooner. When the author first mentioned "That Ghoul Ava", I had no idea what he was talking about. After all, I have read every book Brown has written, and I had never heard anything about a ghoul. If I had read this book first, without knowing who wrote it, I would have never have thought of Brown as the writer. THAT is what makes it so wonderful!
Okay, maybe that didn't sound right. Let me try again....more

When TW Brown isn't doing zombies he's still doing something brilliant. Take this little gem, THAT GHOUL AVA, for instance. A short story about a ghoul, easily defined as an eater of the dead, name Ava. Pretty straight forward monster stuff. Still this is a monster with the problems of a 30 something woman.
Ava still worries how she looks. She still worries where she's going to find money to pay the bills. She is constantly worried about how her best friend will see her. Most appropriated she wor...more

This is a really hard review for me. The brilliant short story with humor and great lines was ruined for me. Overabundance of foul language, sexual innuendos and street talk does not cut it with me.
I think T.W. Brown will develop a great following, the writing is crafty, witty and adventurous. But not for me.

That Ghoul Ava is an original, witty peek into the world of the supernatural that will leave you with a fond smile smile every time you think of eating zombie flesh.
This book simultaneously pokes fun at the horror genre while creating an entirely new mythology to explain what most of us think we know about vampires, zombies, ghouls, witches, and just about every other supernatural creature you can think of. Tucked away in the Pacific Northwest with my wife Denise, a Border Collie named Aoife, a guitar collection, and an increasing number of aquariums sporting a variety of fish (cichlids are my new favorites), I live for football season when I can cheer on the Oregon Ducks and be disappointed by my Seattle Seahawks once again. I am a fan of Cookie Monster, KISS, and Dr. Who (along with most things Bri...more
