Introducing the Sinful Scoundrels...

The Earl of Bellingham is nothing is not a creature of habit: money, meals, and mistresses must be strictly managed if a man is to have a moment's peace. It's a system that works splendidly for him--until now. With his oldest and dearest friends succumbing, one by one, to wedded bliss, Bell is now restless and a trifle lonely. Enter the...more

2 flames, maybe a 2.5

I'm really disappointed with this one.

First off, this is not a complete HEA-this is the beginning of a new series and the novella is more of a teaser, or an intro to the characters and the series.

(btw, that is not why I rated it a 2)

This one starts out pretty strong, with the hero intending on letting his mistress go, but she turns the tables on him and lets him go. Then he sort of wanders around feeling lonely, he sort of noti...more

When I first read this book, I had thought it some sort of preview till the actual book is out. I didn't actually know this was it and that it's just an introduction to the new series. I was very disappointed.

The book is about the Earl of Bellingham (who everyone calls Bell), he's an astute fellow that likes for everything in his life to be in a specific order. That turns his life to become rather mundane, dull and lonely. That is, until he fishes out Harry from drowning, he soon becomes friend...more

As an introduction to a novel: 3.5 stars

A Season for Sin is an introductory novella for a new series coming out in spring 2013. As a marketing tool, the introductory novella concept seems a fantastic idea. What better way to get people invested in the stories of a new set of characters than to serve up an appetizer of sorts? That’s what you get in A Season for Sin. It is not a complete story; it’s more like the first four chapters of What a Wicked Earl Wants randomly snipped from the beginning o...more

Let me share what's A Season for Sin is about before I say what I think of this novella:

In Vicky's last book How to Ravish a Rake, you got a glimpse of Andrew Carrington, the Earl of Bellingham, (Bell) and he is a rake of the first kind. So, he's a mystery, you don't really know who he is other than friend to Will Darcett, and a man who is trying to run from his past.

At the beginning of the story, he's going to dump his mistress. Boy the man is in for some...more

Anything on Bell is good in my book. This is a genius idea! I don't normally like novellas because they aren't worth the money but this is a really well written back story for the two characters.

I was looking forward to this short novella. I was curious about the Earl of Bellingham after reading Dreiling’s, How to Ravish a Rake, where Bell is the close friend of the main male lead, Will. He sounded like good brooding, tortured hero material – perfect for a historical romance. The first part of the novella presents Bellingham as someone that very much needs a relationship because of the loss of his parents and brother several years ago. However, Bell is determined to ignore is loneliness...more

Andrew Carrington has just had one of the shocks of his life – dumped by his latest mistress turned shrew!!! Surprise!

Andrew is the Earl of Bellingham, a man who is scrupulously diligent about not altering his home habits and rituals. Indeed his chef will quit because he is wasting his talents cooking only bacon and eggs for breakfast every single day! But that is the least of what haunts “Bell” as he is called. For Bell has undergone a devastating loss about which no one speaks and he tries ext...more

So it’s partly my own fault I didn’t really like this one, because I thought it was going to be a full length book, but it’s only a novella. However, unlike usual novellas, where authors tell a story with a full beginning, middle, and end, this one is more like a prologue to a book and just cuts off in the middle of an event. I wasn’t too pleased with that and am not really sure of the point of a prologue like this. I’d rather get the introduction to the characters in the full length novel as th...more

"A Season for Sin" is the prequel to Vicky Dreiling's brand new series with Forever Romance books. The story reintroduces us to Bell - The Earl of Bellingham and good friend to Will who was the hero in "How to Ravish a Rake".

Bell is a solitary man and keeps his emotions in check. After having lost his family he is quite happy to be alone. His fortune will go to the Crown on his death and he is totally fine with that outcome.

After learning that another good friend is about to enter into holy matr...more

Laura Davenport, Lady Chesfield has come to London to visit with friends and to show her stepson some of the finer things in life. However, stepson, Justin, Viscount Chesfield, has other things in mind. As he's now a mature 17 (in his mind), he's ready to stretch his wings, challenge his boundaries and really try some of the finer things in life by causing havoc with his friends wherever they may go. Laura has her hands full but is determined to give him the best upbringing possible.

Bell, really...more

I'm really not quite sure how to approach this review. I wasn't aware when I requested the title from NetGalley that A Season for Sin wasn't a complete story - IIRC, the blurb there didn't state that.

I have no problem with novellas or short stories as long as they're well-written, engaging and - above all - finished! This title met the first two of those requirements, but failed miserably at the last, as we're left mid-scene, just as the two protagonists are on the verge of (finally) meeting fac...more

A Season for Sin by Vicky Dreiling is a prequel to a new Sinful Scoundrels series. It is scheduled for release on September 4 2012. The very short story begins the tale of The Earl of Bellingham, a stubborn creature of habit with very few emotional attachments, and Laura Davenport, a widow desperately trying to raise her teenage stepson. Bell is becoming lonely as his friends fall in love and start families, and starts to find himself forced to change his ways. Laura is hoping to prevent her ste...more

I'm going to start this off by saying this is not a review for the entire story as it is just a teaser of what the book will be like. This being said I did enjoy it and look forward to the full novel.

Laura is a widow attempting to raise her stepson who is now 17 and hanging out with the wrong crowd. She is trying her best to cope but soon is forced to make a deal with the "devil". She seems to be a good person and is immediately stunned by our hero's looks and presence.

Bell... Earl of Bellingha...more

I was disappointed in A Season for Sin. It's probably my own fault because I assumed this would be either a complete novella or a full length novel. It was neither. It was less than 100 pages and didn't have a resolution. Instead, there was a preview for the next installment of the series.

This is the first time this has happened to me. I've read a couple of novellas before that were short but complete stories. I was pretty annoyed when I reached the "end" of this book and nothing much had even...more

A Season for Sin by Vicky Dreiling is a short novella introducing her new Sinful Scoundrels series. I have to say this novella had me from the start, it was great and I was craving for more at the end.

In this novella we meet Bell, the Earl of Bellingham; he is a man who likes everything in his life in order and totally under control. His latest mistress is demanding too much of his time and he wants to send her off, but she is one step ahead of him and leaves him for another men. Besides that hi...more

This is a prelude to what I think will be a great book.

A Season for Sin really feels more like a prologue, as it provides the events that lead up to the Earl of Bellingham crossing paths with Laura Davenport, a very pretty desirable widow.

Bell, the Earl, is a scoundrel thru and thru, who happens to be tired of his current Mistress. He's ready to break the relationship, and mentally prepares for the hysterics he thinks his Mistress will go into. HA! Surprise, surprise... his Mistress is just as...more

Unfortunately, this is a prequel rather than a novella. Had I known this, I might not have chose to read the book. But, honestly, I'm glad I didn't know. Sure, it's frustrating to get to the end of a piece and not be at the end of the story. But the truth is that Vicky Dreiling did a good job here making the reader care about these characters. I want to know the story behind Bell's aversion to relationships (we know his family died, but why and how?). I want...more

A SEASON FOR SIN by Vicky Dreiling is an exciting Regency historical romance.*Preview only* Written with her witty style "A Season For Sin" is an exciting story of the Earl of Bellingham and Laura Davenport. While, only a preview its proves to be an interesting story. Which gives the readers an introduction to the "Sinful Scoundrels"...Colin Brockhurt, Earl of Ravenshire and Harry Norcliffe, Viscount Evermore. Six chapters is not enough to this amazing story, just enough to wet your interest. I c...more

I knew this was a novella from the beginning. But what I didn't realize when I started, is that this is not a self-contained story. It is merely the set-up for a full length book.

Lord Bellingham is a man who enjoys the familiar. He has no interest in marriage or in changing his world in any way. Just finding a new mistress is a hassle that he doesn't need.

Laura is a young widow trying to raise her teenage stepson. But he is pulling away from her and she knows he is making unwise choices with his...more

A prequel to a delicious new series, rated 4.5! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:

Bored out of his mind with his mistress Marguerite and her ultimatums, Andrew Carrington, the Earl of Bellingham, was happy to comply with her latest demand to show up that evening. She had finally overplayed her hand and he planned to end their relationship. But before he got the chance to utter the words, she broke it off with him, having chosen another protector. That she had chosen another did not both...more

This is a great little Vicky Dreiling novella. It's more or less a intro into her new series Sinful Scoundrels. The first part is spent kind of introducing you to all the players and you wait to see them all finally to meet up together on the page. I was not disappointed when it finally happens either. You have these little misses where they are all in the area and even run onto each other but don't know who the other is or what they'll mean to them later. Gets pretty good when it finally happen...more

3.5 stars. I was very disappointed when, by the third chapter, I realized that the novella was not actually a novella, but a prelude to the Sinful Scoundrels series - a goodbye to the How To series and a taste.
Disappointment aside, A Season for Sin was an entertaining introduction. I'd never read a Vicky Dreiling novel/novella before this one, and so, I had no feel for her writing style. A Season for Sin presented all the characters well, providing clear personaliti...more

Let me start by saying I love Vicky Dreiling's books. In fact, I’ve reviewed a book of hers before on SpunkyBean and then I read the first two in the series. So I was very eager to read anything by her, even a novella. This is an e-book only story, but frankly, it’s the first few chapters of an upcoming book. It doesn’t have an ending; it merely introduces the characters. That being said I will read it when it comes out. I’ve seen a couple other publishers do this for their authors and I don’t g...more

A Season for Sin is a well-written prologue to a new series that I am now extremely curious about. It's a short set up, but it got me interested to read the series.

I really liked that I got a feel for the characters. Despite the length, I felt like I got to know the characters a little. Laura is admirable. She loves her stepson and is strong enough to do whatever it takes to do what is best for him. Bell was interesti...more

This little prequel to a new series by Vicky Dreiling is both a joy and a disappointment. First, like other Drieling novels, it sparkles with well-developed characters and a believable, sensible plot. The dynamics between the characters brings dramatic tension to the novel and keeps the pace clipping along. However, and it’s a big however, A Season for Sin is billed as a novella, which it is not. It just stops at a crucial point—yikes! And then, to tease even more, it has the first chapter of Wh...more

When I started reading this I thought it was the first in a new spin-off series, but I was wrong. It's actually just a tease for the first book. The novella introduces you to the two MCs from the upcoming book, What A Wicked Earl Wants, but in this you get a little more of a back story of the Earl of Bellingham (Bell to his friends) and how he meets his two new friends and how he comes to know of the new widow in town. You also meet said widow, Laura Davenport, who is raising her 17 year old ste...more

I received this book as a galley on NetGalley.

This novella (more like a prologue really) was such a short glimpse into what is supposed to be a new series by Vicky Dreiling entitled Sinful Scoundrels. I felt teased, but in a good way! ;)

Despite it’s short length, I enjoyed the story. The first scene made me laugh out loud. I felt it was a great way to introduce Andrew Carrington, the Earl of Bellingham (or Bell as his friends called him), and his rich, bachelor lifestyle. As Bell’s best friends...more

This is an e Novella and as such, it is short introduction into the upcoming series Sinful Scoundrels from an author on the rise, Vicky Dreiling. If you’ve never read anything by this author, then this is just the perfect vehicle for you to ‘sample’ and ‘taste’ her fresh take on the regency era. I find her writing style light and refreshing and I hope you will too.

As the story opens we are introduced to Andrew Carrington, the Earl of Bellingham, who is getting ready to ditch his latest mistress....more

Vicky Dreiling is a confirmed historical romance junkie and Anglophile. Frequent business trips to the UK allowed her to indulge her passion for all things Regency England. Bath, Stonehenge, and Spencer House are among her favorite places. She is, however, truly sorry for accidentally setting off a security alarm in Windsor Castle. That unfortunate incident led her British colleagues to nickname h...more
