It’s no secret that I didn’t much care for Night School. While I thought there was nothing wrong with it technically, it just didn’t leave much of an impression. But I’ve been known to change my mind before, and I’ve changed my mind this time. Everything C.J. Daugherty failed to do with Night School, she did with Legacy, and then some. It’s no secret that I didn’t much care for Night School. While I thought there was nothing wrong with it technically, it just didn’t leave much of an impression. But I’ve been known to change my mind before, and I’ve changed my mind this time. Everything C.J. Daugherty failed to do with Night School, she did with Legacy, and then some. The characters were more memorable, the plot was absolutely thrilling, and even the love triangle wasn’t as obnoxious as last time. Quite the contrary, in fact.

Before all else, I feel the need to say more about this formerly obnoxious love triangle. I have never in my entire life switched teams mid series, not once, but I suppose there’s a first time for everything. Daugherty expertly manipulated me into liking Carter a lot less, and liking Sylvain infinitely more, and yet I never felt manipulated at all. Other authors have tried, I assure you, it just never worked before. So mark this day on your calendars because I’m about to write something I doubt I’ve ever written before: this love triangle works! Every time Allie changed her mind, I changed mine too, and every time she was confused, I was right there alongside her. I obviously have a favorite now, but she’s already pushed me into changing my mind once, she could just as easily do it again. Brava, Ms. Daugherty. Well done.

Daugherty showed her ability to successfully transform her characters through more than just Sylvain. Jo was a different person altogether – wounded, insecure and vulnerable after everything she’s been through, but more composed and reliable as well. Some new characters were introduced, and I found them all very interesting, especially Rachel’s father Raj Patel and Sylvain’s friend Nicole. Old enemies were still there, but as soon as the truth about Allie’s family came to light, some new ones showed up as well.

Just the other day I was sitting here, chatting with a friend and shamelessly making fun of boarding school books (with a few exceptions, of course), and now I am forced to eat my words. Or just add Night School to that very short list of exceptions. I adore Cimmeria Academy. I adore the idea behind it, I adore the teachers and I desperately want to be an advanced Night School student. (Only I’m not very athletic so that would never, ever work.) This series is a new favorite of mine and my expectations for the third book are sky high.

Legacy doesn’t end with a cliffhanger, but it does have an open ending, so be prepared for quite a few unanswered questions. It didn’t bother me. To be honest, I barely noticed, I was too busy crying and worrying and crying some more.

Finally, I’m not usually overdramatic, but please allow me to say this: Oh my God, my heart is broken, I doubt I’ll ever, ever (ever!) recover! Please write faster, C.J. Daugherty!

I quickly fell in love with C.J Daugherty debut novel, Night School. It has everything I adore in an escape; mystery, action, romance and thrilling characters. It also has this brilliant quality of being crazy consuming! I couldn't wait to see what Daugherty had in store for these characters next and I'm happy to say that Legacy turned out to be another favorite.

When Allie Sheridan went back to London for the holidays, she didn't expect to be chased down by a group of Nathaniel's agents, or to be returning to Cimmeria Academy early to help repair fire damages caused by her brother, Christopher. At first, things seem to be going well. Allie and Carter are super adorable and sexy, and there's some funny awkward tiptoeing around Sylvain, since he saved her life post-rape attempt. Unfortunately, our smiles don't last for long as things quickly spiral out of control. The secrets, misunderstandings and total lack of communication are monumental in Legacy. As much as I love Allie and Carter, I don't know whether to bury my head in the sand in defeat or to run away screaming.

In this sequel, the plot thickens as Nathaniel's motives are explained, and as he takes bigger risks in order to get what he desires, the students at Cimmeria are put in unpredictable danger. As a result, Allie is admitted into Night School where the focus is now on self defence and they soon learn that there's a traitor amongst them. One of the members of Night School or staff is Nathaniel's inside spy and so the Night School students are forced to interview another member assigned to them in search of any inconsistencies, with lying leading to expulsion. It sounds simple enough....BUT OF COURSE NOT, THIS IS FICTION!

This leads us to the dirty, frustrating mess that is Allie and Carter's relationship. Not too far into Legacy, Carter transforms into an overprotective, controlling jerk who completely forbids Allie from seeing Sylvain. They can't be friends or even acquaintances. With Sylvain's past behaviour, I understand his concern but this was too much and clearly NOT just about her safety at all. Carter, come here so I can slap the stupid out of you! Unfortunately for us and Allie, everything snowballs from there. Allie's put in difficult situations with horrible timing, and absolutely nothing works out for her, with Carter or her non-Night School friends! My heart was an ugly little mess by the end of this novel. I feel so much for her, even though at times I felt she needed to be slapped too. Everything that happened with Allie was either wrong or unfair and it was horrible! #AngstWimp

As a character, I really did like Allie (for the most part). She does well in Night School, albeit with a shaky start, and tries her best to solve all of the mysteries around her while dodging Gabe who seems to be popping up everywhere. The small clues combined with the subtle foreshadowing and my halfway-there theories have me curious and desperately awaiting the next book. Legacy seems to pose more questions than answers, and I was a little let down that the plot development wasn't huge. I was hoping for a bit more to happen, for a few more answers to come our way, but sadly it looks like that'll have to wait for book three.

Despite all of the heartache Daugherty made me feel, she still managed to keep me laughing with her well-placed moments of wit and humour, and her captivating story will keep you wanting to know what will happen next. Legacy gives us more insight into some of the characters, especially Carter, while making us distrust others. This novel feels somewhat unresolved because of the sheer amount of unanswered questions, but filled with intrigue and dangerous charm, Legacy is an entertaining sequel which will hopefully pave the way to an explosive third book. I have no idea how things will end and I'm honestly a little afraid after these latest developments! (less)

Durch die Leserunde bei Lovelybooks kam ich in den Genuss der Fortsetzung von “Night School - Der den Zweifel sät”. Bereits der erste Band “Du darfst keinem trauen” hat mich begeistert und mitgerissen. So ist es auch bei Teil zwei geschehen, dank des Schreibstils von C.J. Daugherty.
464 Seiten erscheinen am 19. Februar 2013 im Oetinger Verlag, und ich danke dem Verlag und Katja, für diese tolle Leserunde und die Möglichkeit das Buch vorher lesen zu dürfen.

Tout comme pour le premier tome, je trouve que l’intrigue avance peu mais que l’histoire fonctionne bien quand même. On avance lentement mais surement vers un dénouement qui promet de surprendre. L’auteure réussi à nous dérouter pendant la lecture et même si j’ai par moment l’impression d’avoir raté un train, la lecture avance bien.
On commence à entrapercevoir ce que cache réellement cette guerre des clans tout en rencontrant certains membres de celui de Nathaniel, dont surtout Christopher…

Night School Legacy is the sequel to Night School by C. J. Daugherty. Unfortunately, I haven’t read the first book, however, after reading the second, I just might.
I think the blurb undersells this book. It has a lot more to it than ‘dreamy Carter West’.
I love action books, as well as romances. To be honest, I’ll read pretty much anything. However, for me to really enjoy a book, it needs to be something a bit special.

I like the way Legacy has a balance of personal problems and group problems. Figuring out the evil Nathaniel and knowing there’s one of his spies in their midst is a big group problem. Whereas Allie Sheridan, the main character, being torn and confused about her feelings towards her boyfriend, Carter, and attractive French student, Sylvain is a personal problem that only she can really solve.
I think this book will probably appeal more to girls than boys. Although it is in third person, the narrative is completely over Allie’s shoulder, completely from her point of view. Of course, this isn’t such a problem for me, but for a boy it might become a bit tiring.
I think for the most part the language is good. Daugherty makes relatable characters, and they talk like real people. They have their odd moments of saying the dreaded teenage cliché of ‘Whatever’ and the like, but on the whole they are believable, and you could imagine yourself saying similar things.
I was gripped by the novel, and read it in only a few days. It’s just over three hundred pages long, which isn’t hard for me at all, but might drag on a bit for some people.
The one thing I will say is that for an action style novel, there wasn’t a massive climax. Sure, it was definable as a climax, but it seemed rushed, and was over very quickly. I think this book definitely needs a third in the series, due to how open it is in the end, and how, without giving away too much, it leaves some things unresolved.
Overall I would give legacy a 7 ½ out of 10. It is a good book, it has believable characters and an interesting plot but I have read better books. Maybe my mark would be higher if I had read the first in the series, I don’t know.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this book...

On one hand, when I finished the book, my initial thought was, ‘That was pretty good! ...I think I liked that even more than the first book!’ (Then again, it should probably be taken into consideration that it has been a long time since I read Night School and I can’t much remember it or how I felt about it...)

On the other hand, then, after some reflection, my second thought was that I couldn’t actually recall much significant actually happening in the book. It just seemed a bit to me like there wasn’t a lot going on with the plot throughout most of the book and that we spent most of the time just....waiting.

I felt like the majority of the book was spent watching Allie prepare for the end of the book – when, supposedly, the big action would finally come into play – with a few odd mini bits of action thrown in just to keep the reader’s attention span from drifting off completely.

However, although I had some issues with the plot, what I really liked about Legacy were the characters. It was great to see Allie getting a chance to develop as a character as she faced more challenges; I realise this may seem a little contradictory of me – first I say it was somewhat dull ‘watching Allie prepare’, then I say ‘it was great to see Allie getting a chance to develop’, but I suppose what I mean is that it was good to see her character developing...but we needn’t spend most of the book on it...

The love triangle present in the first book is still here, and although I know some people are against them, I don’t mind them, in fact I advocate them, if they are portrayed well! You could define a ‘good’ love triangle as one that evokes enough feeling in its readers for them to divide into ‘teams,’ and I’m sure readers of Legacy will be agonising over who they think Allie should be with – Carter or Sylvain? I have to say, in Night School I was definitely all for the mysterious, brooding Carter, however, during Legacy I found myself rooting for Sylvain.

All in all, although I felt it could have been better, I enjoyed Legacy and still definitely would read any future books in the series! I am sure that anyone who loved Night School will not be disappointed by its sequel.(less)

And we have a winner! By Book One’s end, I had come away feeling like I’d wasted my time. I felt like I’d read the same thing in tons other books before a much better way next to nothing. Not so simple anymore. Everything gets turned upside down: Allie, the love triangle, the school even. You’d think HEA for her in the love department right? Except not… Because in this one, the love but goes every which way. So much so that I didn’t know who to root for and when I did I’d change my mind again. And the school, friends and not friends being settled you think it’s all good there, too, right? Only it’s a no here too. Because as far as conspiracies and plots go… well it’s thickened here. We see what the baddy is after and maybe even the why, but we’re just not that sure. Plus, with Christian finally made an appearance, well my questions on that end are settled only to have more questions take their place

Plus all the new people coming out and making things even more interesting like young girl genius and the father dude, who read so kick ass, well, it’s a wonder that I stopped to sleep at all. Then add in all the old people who still managed to get me feeling that one of them must needs be strangled! OK.. sometimes more than one of them and all of them together! They could just be so wrong sometimes. Carter, I’m looking at you. And Jo. Jo JO. JO… what’s to be done with you.

Allie’s is still a screw up going eyes open head first into trouble, and I liked her more for that because her doing what she was kinda/sorta did make sense. She’s not just girl screw up getting reformed in this one rather she’s just girl screw up screwing up for the right reason, if there is such a thing.

Als Allie vor ihrem Elternhaus Männer auflauern, wird ihr bewusst, dass die Gefahr nicht vorüber ist und jemand hinter ihr her ist. Zurück im Internat Cimmeria, stellt sich heraus, dass Nathaniel und seine Männer einen Spion in der Schule untergebracht haben. Allie wird in die Night School aufgenommen und was sie dort lernt, wird sie auch bald bitter benötigen.

Der erste Teil, den ich auch Deutsch gelesen habe, konnte mich ja nicht ganz so überzeugen, aber ich dachte mir ich gebe der Reihe noch einmal eine Chance und es hat sich auch mehr oder weniger ausgezahlt. Ich kann mit der Night School (ja sehr kreativer Name) immer noch nicht viel anfangen und finde, dass das alle eigentlich ziemliche Freaks sind und auch die Bedrohung der Schule und den Krieg in dem sich alle angeblich befinden, war mir nicht wirklich klar. At last a decent book that doesn't base itself on something else! I once again experienced that warm feeling that I always get when reading a boarding school story, that's what I was looking for when I picked it up however as I found out it was so much more than that! It was fast paced with an intriguing story line and even more intriguing characters with an element of love that doesn't take over the whole story. And best of all just as you were thinking 'I saw that coming' it would twist around again and constantly surprise you. So before I droan on about a book for which you don't have any context for I will tell you what the story is about, whilst trying not to give anything away!

The story starts pretty much from where the last one left off I believe.
Basically allie turned to robbery and crime after her older brother Christopher ran away for an unknown reason. When her parents lose control she is sent to Cimmeria a boarding school for privalidged teenagers. ( may I just say I was so glad that this was finally a British boarding school with no American characters!)
Where she expects to hate the school she actually likes it and makes lots of new friends ( this is all In the first book I believe).
However this isn't an normal school it also consists of night school an ' army' of students trained to fight to protect an unknown organisation. After allie is targeted by nathaniel ( the enemy) she is accepted into night school there she begins to figure out what nathaniel really wants with her and what he will pay to have her.

Why do authors have to do this make sides of who the main character should date? She's with sylvain now why make us think that carter still likes her?

I apolygise for the little rant! It really is an excellent book!

Ich hab's ja schon in meiner Rezension zu Night School. Du darfst keinem trauen gesagt: Die Serie hat Potenzial.

Inzwischen ist Allie ungefähr klar, wo sie da eigentlich gelandet ist in diesem geheimnisvollen Internat Cimmeria, und es geht direkt deutlich gefährlicher los als im ersten Band.

So I literally just finished it and I feel like I want to do all sorts of things right now.
First of all a happy dance (many of them involved with this book - first I did one when my bookstore told me my copy had arrived, then when things got exciting, and now after having finished it and thinking that this series is amazing).

I was so excited to receive my copy of Legacy as I absolutely LOVED Night School # 1. I loved all the intrigue.

The book trailer above is so well done and it makes the book look very exciting .

I am going to be honest and say I enjoyed this instalment, but it wasn’t until the last 3 chapters or so, that this book was what I wanted it to be. Now I am just one person. One opinion.

Everything changes for Allie.
She enters the Night School. She finds new friends and loses old. She finds out that the Cimmeria Academy has more secrets than it seems and that Nathaniel has his people everywhere.
In the Night School Allie has to learn to understand when people lie and how they do it, but she does not quite like it because knowing that her closest friends lie to her is painful.

So does Sylvain. So does Carter. And even Allie....more

It had an exciting start with Allie being chased by some scary guys and I was intrigued as to how she had gotten into such a serious situation. When all was explained I realised that the danger from the previous book was quickly spilling into this one (just what I want as a reader, thank you very much!).

When all was explained I realised that the danger from the previous book was quickly spilling into this one (just what I want as a reader, thank you very much!).

When Allie eventually returned to Cimmeria there was a lot going on as the big clean up, after the fire, was well under way. I was looking forward to her reunion with Carter and also with Sylvain as I sensed she was starting to warm to him again at the end of the first book. Speaking of the two guys in her life, the whole Allie/Carter/Sylvain love triangle was even more interesting this time round, Allie was extremely confused about her feelings and I have to admit that I fully understand why – normally I have an opinion on who a character should choose but this time I just couldn’t decide.

I learned a bit more about the mysterious Lucinda and I feel like I’m now building a better picture of who she really is. There was also a lot more information about Night School itself as I followed Allie during her introduction to the exclusive group. Part of this introduction saw Allie partnered with Zoe who was small but very strong, I wasn’t too keen on her to begin with but she soon grew on me with her innocent mind and passion for kicking things. I found myself smiling at her reaction to the magpie she spotted – I too am rather superstitious about the magpie poem so this was something I could relate to.

I loved the humour that ran throughout the book, it was a great way of lightening some of the more serious moments. There were a lot of trust issues going on with quite a few lies being told and this was something that kept me on the edge of my seat as I was reading – I was wondering who could and couldn’t be trusted, who was lying and if their lies would be discovered.

The ending was fantastic and sad all at the same time, I was utterly gripped by the events that led to the last page. This was another one-day read for me and I felt so upset when I read the final words because I didn’t want it to end! Needless to say I’m looking forward to the next book.

This was another amazing read filled with excitement, danger, laughs and a sprinkling of love. A perfect all-rounder.(less)

Au niveau des points positifs, il faut bien reconnaître que CJ Daugherty possède un style très agréable. Ooh, I was really looking forward to reading this second book in the Night School series by CJ Daugherty. I really loved Night School, with its secrets and creepy boarding school setting and with Legacy, everything just felt more. The risk of danger felt greater, the excitement was at a higher level, and because I knew these characters, I felt myself growing that much more emotionally invested. Legacy is a fantastic sequel and this series has quickly become one of my favourites!

I really love Allie as a main character. She's funny and feisty and in this book she's really doing her best to be able to protect herself and to find out the answers to those burning questions she has about Night School and her family. But she's also got it a bit tough, with friendships, relationships and knowing who to trust.

The first scene in Night School Legacy was really intense, as Allie is being tracked and hunted by these unknown men in suits. It got my heartrate beating fast and was a brilliant way to start this rollercoaster ride of a book. I do very much love Cimmeria Academy. I love the idea of boarding schools and this one in particular with its shady secret society is wonderful. Because of the events in the previous book and the fact that Allie was targeted at the start of the book, the whole book is set up with Allie and the reader questioning who to trust? And to make matters worse, Allie is forced to interrogate the person she is closest to.

Which leads me to mention something about Allie's confused relationship status. I really loved Carter in the first book. He's the bad boy who sneaks out and breaks the rules. He sticks up for Allie when Sylvain's brain takes a vacation at the formal ball in the previous book. But can Allie really trust Carter? Can she see past his protectiveness and rely on him to be there still? And despite the way in which Sylvain acted that one time, Allie can see how much Sylvain has done since then to make up for his terrible behaviour. I really enjoyed how much my feelings about both Carter and Sylvain change throughout reading this book. I know some people are weary of love triangles, but for me, I'm still for them when they are written this well. I've read both books in this series so far and while I had periods of knowing definitely that one boy was better suited to Allie than the other, now I'm not so sure. It could go either way and I'm on the edge of my seat to find out...

But this book is definitely more than just romantic involvements. There's lots to be learned about Night School and who Allie's grandmother is. There's the return of some dubious characters, a death, some heart-stopping action scenes and plenty of rule-breaking going on. Night School Legacy is an exciting, action-packed sequel and I urge you all to pick this series up!(less)

This is the second book in the Night School series, so be warned there may be spoilers. I have to admit I was really surprised how this book turned out.
This book pulled the carpet from under me! Seriously, I saw Allie as being on the right side of all the events going on at Cimmeria, but as this story progresses Allie reacts to situations which makes it look like she might be heading for the wrong side. OK, so before I go on my praise fest I just have to say that this was really a slow-starter for me.... I think it was pretty much my fualt, becuase I had to mentally rewind and remember the last book. But, once I got my head in the game, it was on like Donkey Kong! I fell back in love with Allie, Rachel and (especially) Sylvain. Carter drove me insane and I will just say I was happy when the inevitable happened!

Y es que hubo cierta mejora, pero también una especie de retroceso respecto al anterior: se lee rápido, es más llevadero, pero me pareció la reescritura de Tras los muros de Cimmeria. De nuevo no hay muchas revelaciones (más incógnitas sí) y los secretos que se revelan, son los mismos que guarda Allie a lo largo de esta novela :|

Le premier tome avait été un gros coup de coeur. J'avais donc beaucoup d'attentes sur ce deuxième tome que j'ai attendu avec impatience. Malgré quelques grosses contrariétés, je l'ai presque autant aimé que le premier.

Si dans le premier opus, Allie était en pleine découverte du petit monde qu'est Cimmeria, dans ce tome-ci, elle est maintenant pleinement intégrée et à l'aise dans cet établissement.

Elle commence un nouveau trimestre avec une nouveauté de taille pour elle, son intégration à la Night School. Elle découvre enfin ce qu'on y enseigne concrètement et va y connaitre des hauts et des bas.

Mais voilà, une menace pèse sur Cimmeria et Allie. Le danger rôde et des soupçons de trahison se portent sur un des membres de la Night School.

Du côté des personnages et de l'évolution de leurs relations, c'est là que le bas blesse car je ne comprend pas Allie et quelques passages m'ont profondément énervé. Alors oui, j'ai la rancune tenace mais Sylvain, vraiment je ne peux pas. C'est plus fort que moi, je déteste ce personnage et je sens qu'il cache quelque chose. Je n'arrive pas à comprendre pourquoi Allie se sent attirée par lui. Son comportement du début du livre m'a hérissé et Allie m'énerve profondément dans son attitude envers Carter et Sylvain. Je n'ai d'ailleurs pas apprécié la manière dont le personnage de Carter a été malmené sans raison apparente. Je n'ai pas compris les reproches qui lui ont été fait. J'ose espérer qu'il sera plus présent par la suite parce que je l'apprécie et qu'à mon avis il pourrait se montrer déterminant dans le déroulement de l'histoire. Je ne sais pas comment va évoluer ce triangle amoureux mais j'espère que ça sera dans le bon sens parce que sinon je risque d'avoir un souci avec cette saga. D'ailleurs, je déteste de plus en plus les triangles amoureux!

A part cet aspect, je me suis, une fois de plus, laissée embarquer par l'auteur au coeur de cet établissement si particulier et c'est avec beaucoup de plaisir que j'ai suivi la suite des aventures d'Allie. Quand Allie ne m'énerve pas dans sa vie amoureuse, j'aime beaucoup son personnage qui, dans ce tome, a cessé d'être observatrice pour enfin agir. On découvre aussi ce qu'il se passe dans la Night School, mais encore beaucoup de mystères demeurent et c'est assez frustrant.

L'auteur n'hésite pas à malmener ses personnages à notre plus grande surprise et comme pour le premier tome, tout s'enchaine vers la fin en nous laissant nous, pauvres lecteurs, sur notre faim et une frustration sans nom. Quand j'ai refermé le livre, je n'avais qu'une envie, lire le troisième opus. Mais il va encore falloir patienter et j'ai vraiment hâte de découvrir la suite.

Même si je n'ai pas eu le coup de coeur que j'ai eu pour le premier tome, j'ai beaucoup apprécié cette suite, cette saga reste une valeur sûre pour moi!

I really enjoyed Night School so I was excited to get my hands on a copy of the sequel Legacy and couldn't wait to see what would happen next in the story. After the revelations made at the end of the first book I was really interested to see how things would play out for Allie now she had learnt some of her family secrets. She certainly had an unusual introduction to life at Cimmeria Academy over the summer and the start of the new year looked set to be just as explosive. I can't fault the opening to Legacy, action packed and fast paced I was on the edge of my seat desperate to see how Allie would get out of the situation she had found herself in. Unfortunately once she arrived at the Academy I felt that the plot really slowed down and I ended up disappointed.

One of the things I loved most about Night School was how action packed it was but Legacy felt much more character driven. That isn't necessarily a bad thing but I like some kind of plot to go along with the character development. In this case very little actually seemed to happen, everyone continued to keep Allie in the dark, she got practically no more information about her family or what was actually going on and why Nathaniel was so determined to plot against the school. By the end of the book I don't feel I have answers to any of my questions and I was left feeling frustrated. I was also shocked at the behaviour of some of the characters, it seemed like Carter and Sylvain had completely switched personalities from the first book. I loved Carter before but in this instalment he was a complete idiot and the way he treated Allie made me so angry I wanted to punch something. On the other hand Sylvain, whose actions in the first book are still completely unforgivable, has turned into a really nice guy. I was shocked to find myself liking Sylvain and I did actually start to believe that he was sorry for the things he did before but in my mind that doesn't make them any more excusable and I still have a hard time letting that go.

Unfortunately Legacy definitely suffered with second book syndrome for me, I hate to give negative reviews but I was so bored that I almost stopped reading. The book is nearly 400 pages long and practically nothing happens, the only thing that kept me going to the end was my love for the first book. The main element of the book is relationship angst between Allie, Carter and Sylvain which is something I just wasn't interested in reading about. If it hadn't had such a major focus it wouldn't have bothered me but I found it all too much. After the action packed beginning you really have to wait until the last 20 pages for anything to happen and then I felt things were rushed over too quickly and we missed out on a lot of potential excitement.

I don't want to put people off reading the story because I definitely seem to be in the minority with this one - a lot of other bloggers have been giving it very high ratings. I have to be honest with my reviews though and tell you how I really feel about the books I read or there is no point in me even writing reviews in the first place. I'm sure I will pick up the next book in the series, I have so many unanswered questions about everything and I do really like Allie and want to know what happens to her. I just hope that I enjoy the next book as much as I enjoyed Night School.(less)
