May have slight spoilers.

This is the first novel I have ever read that was New Adult novel and I have to say that it will not be my last!

Derailed is a wonderful novel about a woman named Molly who has recently lost her fiancé. And I mean lost by he is no longer living. Caring guilt and grief she quits law school in Boston in the middle of class and decides to go home to Clayton Falls, North Carolina.

This was actually a really feelgood romance and I liked it. For those who like second-chance romance, you will love this. It is a little predictable, but it's also written in a very engaging way that makes you read on. It's fairly short.

I loved Molly and Ben. The fact that Molly took action after she realized that she wasn't where she wanted to be in life...that's brave. Most people would just roll with it because it's safe. She is also a sweet girl with a grea...more

Nope. It was very amateurish, a lot of dialogue, not a lot of style. It was an alright premise but just kind of lost its way early on.

This was an absolutely beautiful story of loss, love, and growing up. I read this book in a matter of four hours because I had to know ye ending. Alyssa did an incredible job showing Molly as a tragically torn young woman whose been dealt a hard hand. She comes back to her home town and reunited with her first love Ben, who still holds a candle for her. Through trials and tribulations Molly realizes, with Ben's help, that she is truly worthy of love. And who better than Ben to love her?

I could not get into this book. I had a hard time connecting with the main character, Molly. I know she had been through a lot but it didn't come across in the writing. Instead of feeling sympathy for her, I just found her annoying. One person's review of this book said it seemed amateurish, with a lot of dialogue - I agree. I think that's why I couldn't connect with Molly - there was a lot of talking without much introspection on her part.

And what was up with Ben and Gavin? They both seemed ob...more

Wow..*sniffles* just wow. This was one of the most epic love stories I have ever read. Yes it was a little predictable, but the author weaved a fair amount of mystery throughout to keep you completely engaged.

I just can't say enough how much I loved this story. Alyssa Rose Ivy has done it again. She is quickly becoming a favorite:)

*Be Warned* This book is emotional and tissues are required. I was so engrossed in the story, I couldn't help but feel Molly's pain and joy. Molly was a very unique ch...more

Derailed is a really good second chance contemporary romance! There is a lot of depth to this story. Molly is returning to her hometown, Clayton Falls, where she hopes to step back and figure out what to do next in her life. She has gone through two very traumatic experiences, one very recently that inspired her decision to go home; and is suffering not only from the emotional pain, but from guilt as well. I felt so badly for Molly. She is a very strong character even though she is broken. I was...more

Alyssa Rose Ivy is one of my favorite authors to read. I am a fan of her work so whenever any new book comes out from her creative mind always want to read as fast as possible to see if it is a good read or not. My expectations are actually high in wanting it to be an amazing read! My first taste of Alyssa’s writing came sometime in 2011 with Beckoning Light and later as well reading its follow-up Perilous Light. Both of these novels were, of course, amazing in The Afterglow Trilogy. About some...more

The reason I choose this book was because of the author. I never thought that a name would do that to me, but reading and reviewing a past work of Alyssa Rose Ivy, made me want to read more of her.

This story is simple. Not supernatural creatures here. It tells the story of Molly who one day quits being a law student and moves back into her hometown for a fresh start. The death of her fiance hunts her dreams and she believes that a change of scenery will help her. What she doesn't...more

Enjoyed this one, a quick, sweet, emotional read.

The story starts with Molly quitting law school and moving back to her home town after 5 years of being away at school. She moves back into her parents house for the time being, although her dad is deceased and her mom is living in Seattle with her older sister. Right away you meet her bff Kelly(who was great). You learn quickly that Molly moving home is in big reason due to the fact that she is not with her fiancee anymore. She tells everyone th...more

I found Derailed an emotional engrossing story that; captured my attention quickly. Molly has suffered the loss of her fiance. She quiets law school in Boston and moves home to North Carolina. Molly meets up with childhood best friend Kelly and sees her high school sweet heart Ben.

Molly has experienced some really some really hard things in her life. I felt that she is trying to find her way and really grows through the story. Alyssa does a excellent job with the plot and character development....more

This is a really good book. My first New Adult book and I really enjoyed it. When I first started reading this book, I thought I was missing something...like being thrown into a series without the facts, but as I continued reading, I was like.. okay, this is all intentional. I'm not supposed to know what happened to Adam, that's a secret. So, I continued to read and my confusion faded. Surprisingly, I finished this book all in one sitting. Fairly quickl...more

Alyssa Rose Ivy has quickly become one of my new favorite authors. Each book that she releases whether it is New Adult or Young Adult I absolutely fall in love with the story and the characters.

In Derailed you follow Molly as she abruptly quits law school, leaves her life in Boston behind and heads back to her hometown in North Carolina. Because of the death of her finance, Molly has no desire to start up any new relationships. When she runs into Ben, her high school sweetheart, old forgotten fe...more

Huh, that was quick… I didn’t think this would be a straightforward romance but it is with a lead who’s suffered the same thing twice already. the thing is I can’t say I loved this one simply because the love interest is a pansy ass, pining boy. This despite memories of him making him out to be more (or less depending on your view of things.) More if you’re into the bad boy in a band tough guy, less if you factor in his having been high all the time. Perhaps pansy ass is too strong a descriptive...more

This was really sweet and cute but quite sad at the same time.

Molly had to go through so much at such a young age however Ben, OMG I loved Ben, anyways he was her rock through everything, her anchor that kept her sane basically her reason to live.

High school sweethearts separated through pain, loss and distance but both of whom have never stopped loving each other and even their bodies remember each other after 5 long years the feelings and attraction they both have for each other have only st...more

Molly comes back home to Clifton Falls, North Carolina to try and figure out what she's supposed to do next. Months after her fiance's death, she's quit law school and found that booze helps numb the nightmares that plague her. But she didn't count on her return stirring up the other ghosts of her past and making her finally take a look at where's she's been and what really makes her happy.

Despite the somber tones of this book, I really enjoyed it. As a reader, my heart went out to Molly right a...more

Derailed begins with Molly making a sudden and life-altering change. She decides not to follow her chosen career path (she’s in law school), and opts instead to drop everything and move back to her hometown of Clayton Falls; knowing there will be more than just ghosts waiting to greet her.

Because this novel is considered a “New Adult” novel, there is sex mentioned but it always “fades away” before any of the more “sexual elements” can take place. Due to this, I believe both people who do not lik...more

The combination of the eye-catching cover and the intriguing synopsis of Derailed pulled me in and I knew I had to read it. What I loved about Derailed is the setting; Clayton Falls sounds like a perfect little town with a beachfront. The story is written in such a way that there are little revelations along the way as to why Molly is so lost and what made her so cautious in life.

Guilt is a feeling Molly can quite relate to on a significant level. It surfaced ever since before she left North Car...more

A review copy was provided for an honest review. Derailed is fast-paced, utterly captivating, and incredibly well written. I don't feel the covers old and new do the book the justice it deserves. For this reason I was determined to not like it but that became hard to do when I ended up staying up till 5 am in the morning just to finish it. The story is straight forward but in a good way, and the leading lady Molly is easy to connect with. I really enjoyed Derailed from beginning to end it had ju...more

Sometimes you can't let go of the boy you left behind.

Derailed was a sweet romance filled with hope, grief and denial. It tells the story about a girl who returns home to find herself after her fiance dies. There was something so lovely and yet terribly sad about coming to terms with grief and the past. I loved the sense that Molly could go home again and find the thing that had been missing all along - contentment.

The story line is simplistic, and even though I've read the same similar story li...more

The book begins with Molly walking out of her Contracts class in law school. Leaving her best friend Becca in Boston. It's been five years since since she left Clayton Falls to escape her father's death. But while in Boston, she suffers the untimely and shocking death of her fiancé, Adam.

I received an ARC review copy of this book from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This is my second encounter with this author, and I will admit that I have that first book in my TBR pile – for those down time moments. Sadly, those don’t come frequently enough.

This book is a contemporary romance that focuses on healing, guilt and finding a new direction that brings happiness in your life. Molly has just...more

Did I enjoy this book: I did enjoy this book. It was a sweet, coming home story with a happy ending. It was a relatively quick read and I connected with the characters fairly well.

Molly left law school before her last set of finals of her first year. (I'm sure this is something that a lot of law students - past and present - have thought about doing!) She went home...home to the house in the town where she grew up. Things are different now for Molly but the town, and its residents, are...more

This is such a simple but delightful story. I hadn't realised that I missed reading stories about emotional healing and I was really glad I read this book.

Molly is past the point of caring. I was immediately pulled into her story and her troubles. She suffers from nightmares, insomnia, self-hate, and she's racked with guilt. Her hometown is happy to see her and mistakenly believe her to be engaged. Instead of telling everyone that he died, she says Adam dumped her.
While hesitant about returnin...more

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I got this novel for free on Smashwords the week it was free. It's now back up to $2.99.

Overview of the novel: Molly has hit rock bottom. In her mind, her world is spiraling out of control. She's almost done with her first year of law school, but then she decides she doesn't want to be a lawyer.

She doesn't wait to finish the year; she doesn't want to say in the city. All she can do is go home. She doesn't want to think about her dead fiancé. She just...more
