Detective Carson is a honest hard working cop. When a case has him confused and not knowing what to do, he starts to think. The case is closed only because it has gone cold. No prof of anything. Over the past weeks they has gotten to know each other and the attraction is there but something else is too! As Carson goes over the case he has been fretting over, he gets pulled into a world that he never knew existed. Leila is part of a world, most humans no nothing of. She is a Ifriti. A middle eastern magical being similar to a Djinn! Like most magical beings they can live for hundreds of years. Leila's father has made an arranged marriage. Leila hates the man who is a known murderer, bully, rapist, thug at best. Leila also knows that the deal her father made with him for her hand, also binds her family. If she refuses, her father and brother will die and her mother will be given to someone else. Leila has been fighting this for a long time. Her future husband to be, has now tracked her down and is going to take her back kicking and screaming. What can she do? Carson walks into her life and steals her heart. The attraction is enormous and she knows she should not lead him on. What kind of future can they possible have? Her problem is she can't stay away, but she is afraid her world will kill the only man she has ever loved.

This is book 2 in the series. I love the fact it is located in Detroit. I know the area. The story line with Carson and Leila, was touching and sweet. Carson a cop and Leila the daughter of a crime boss and a magical being can make for some major entertaining drama. Carson a lovable strong character, you just want him to know what is going on because he really has no clue for a while. Leila is a women torn. She want to just fall in love, with Carson, live in peace and have a happy life. She also knows the well being of her family is in her hands, how can she abandon them? The book has one awesome sex scene and a beautiful ending! I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good romance, mystery and a little action! (less)

Book 2 starts off with Detective Carson Hale, from the previous book. He is a slightly alcoholic man that is sitting at a bar, contemplating the case of Miriam and Ben. The waitress, Leila, entices him into conversation. She seems to understand the strange undercurrents of the case. They get cozy in thw bar as Carson admits that he is interested in her. This is where things take a turn into weird. During their kiss, Carson gets knocked out, and wakes up to the impossible.

He is a slightly alcoholic man that is sitting at a bar, contemplating the case of Miriam and Ben. The waitress, Leila, entices him into conversation. She seems to understand the strange undercurrents of the case. They get cozy in thw bar as Carson admits that he is interested in her. This is where things take a turn into weird. During their kiss, Carson gets knocked out, and wakes up to the impossible.

Carson was knocked out by Hassan, a horrible man, that feels he has a right to Leila because they are betrothed, against her will I might add. This is when you realize that Leila has powers as well, and her powers are air. Hassan destroys the bar where she works, as does she fighting him back. The unexplained destruction of the bar from fire and hurricane force winds stumps Carson. He knows that something is not right and that there is something different about Leila.

The story follows Carson and Leila as they fall in love, but their love seems like it is not meant to be. Leila is a kick butt chick, but she knows more than anyone that if she does not marry Hassan, there will be dire consequences for her people. She is an Ifriti, which is similar to a Djinn, and her culture is way different from normal human culture. Her people are capable of living for centuries, and a human marrriage is frowned upon. If she does not marry Hassan, a war could start between the Djinn and the Ifriti.

This story is full of magic as well, and full of conflict and will have you rooting for the characters to the very last page. I hated Hassan. I just wanted to go through the book and use his own magic against him. Carson goes through hell for Leila, a mere human against a whole Ifriti clan. Leila’s father, who she believes does not even love her, and Nadira, the water elemental, play pivotal roles in the culmination of this book. Jack and his grandfather also make appearences. The characters are so well thought out and you instantly connect with them. There are so many open-ended storylines that you just know that the next book in the installment is going to be just as great as these two. Plus, (and this is always a plus in my book lol), the books are HOT. Imagine almost making love inside of a tornado…hmmmmm I give this book 5 stars as well, and I cannot wait for the next book in The Houri Legends. I so hope it is Nadira’s story!

This book picks up pretty much right where the previous book lets off. Carson is in the bar where Leila bartends and the next thing Carson knows he’s in the hospital where the building had basically fell on top of him yet he managed to survive and Leila has not a scratch on her. Despite the fact things are not adding up with Leila, Carson decides to pursue her anyway.

So the book starts off promising, you have a fight within the first couple of chapters. So in the first scenes Carson can barely remember Leila’s name, but after one kiss all of the sudden he can’t live without her. Eh, I wasn’t buying it. I think I liked Carson better in the first book, he got every other chapter and he seemed to have more depth to him then. Not that I disliked him in this book, but something seemed to be off from the first. We find out more of Carson’s past which is truly heartbreaking and you can see why he took up law enforcement. You completely understand why he took up law enforcement. I did think that he would get to there being something special and accept it sooner when it came to Leila since he had just come off Miriam’s case and he knows there are just some things you can’t explain, but alas it took a huge gesture for it to really sink in. Although it still kind of bugs me that no one else noticed that huge gesture considering it was basically a tornado, but I guess you just have to kind of go with it.

Leila, I was pretty much eh with from the beginning. I never connected with her and I found her “woow is me” attitude somewhat off putting. She really did sounds a lot like a spoiled little rich girl that she accused herself of and she just kept pushing Carson away and getting mad when he took a step back. Girl you pushed him away! What do you want from the man!? Tho, I don’t blame her for running from her betrothed he truly was a complete dickwad.

This book somewhat lacked the substance first book had. With the first book we had some serious subject matter and you were truly rooting for Miriam and Jack. This one it was all about Carson getting his head out of his ass and Leila trying to decide how to get out of her betrothal. It was quite the come down from the previous book. The book lost momentum after the first attack and didn’t quite pick up again until the end. I found myself bored a few times, not enough to put the book down and not pick it back up again but enough to produce a few sighs. Now the ending was great! I really enjoyed the ending, finally it picked up and we got what we were looking for from the rest of the story. Leila’s dad surprises you and Carson steps up in a big way! I’m still a bit confused on how the whole binding works but whatev’s the end is still great! Oh and you may remember Nadira from the 1st book, well she makes an appearance and kicks total a$$! We also have cameos from Jack and his grandfather Shawn, who I quite enjoyed. Jack is really coming into his powers. Overall, it was a decent story, it lacked some momentum but the ending made up for a lot of it.

Another good one in the series. I loved the ending which was exciting and satisfying. I also like the set up for a big ol' battle between Djinns and Ifrits. Characters were strong, likeable and had me rooting for them
